2. About AIESEC
AIESEC envisions peace and fulfilment of humankind’s potential. AIESEC is the world’s
largest youth-led organisation which aims to provide young people with entrepreneurial
and responsible leadership.
AIESEC is a global network with 100,000 youth impacting the world through
experiential leadership development experiences. AIESEC has been enabling youth

3. Global Youth Competitiveness Forum
Guangzhou, 21st Feb 2014.
Global Youth Competitiveness Forum was the opening event of AIESEC’s Global
Leaders’ Summit 2014, which is the prestigious annual international presidents meeting
of the AIESEC network. In this summit, 210 young leaders from 124 countries and
territories gathered together, to create strategies and make decisions towards moving
closer towards our vision. We were also joined by 450 pre-selected Chinese university
students for this wonderful occasion.
In the year of 2013, AIESEC in Mainland of China created a 10-year vision: “We envision
a generation of globally competitive leaders positively impact tomorrow’s China”. Thus,
we created the theme of the forum: “Empowering the new generation of globally
competitive leaders”. It aims to bring insights on challenges faced by youth today, in
order to generate discussions on the importance of being globally competitive, and how
young leaders can achieve it.
It was also our pleasure to be joined by more than 30 corporate partners and external
guests in the forum, to share insights and to inspire the leaders of tomorrow.
The forum was a great success, which was made possible with all the support from our
partners and sponsors. We are looking forward to the next time we meet, you are most
welcome to join us again.

experiences with young leaders to inspire and gave
insights on their respective industries.
A powerful conversation between top business leaders on
the topic of “Global Competitive Leadership”, 5 panelists
shared their thoughts with each other and provided practical
advices to forum attendees.
210 AIESEC presidents from 124 countries and territories
represented their own culture during the global village, with
traditional clothing, local food and souvenirs. All forum
attendees and speakers were able to embrace and
appreciate the diverse cultures of our global network.

8. Power Talk 1: Mr Richard Shaw
Richard Shaw from Amway delivered the opening
speech as one of the key forum partners.
Mr. Shaw gave us an overview of Amway and briefly
explained about the model of direct selling. He shared
with us how Amway develops young talent by running
a special management trainee program to find the top
talents who can be the future leaders of the business.
Mr. Shaw emphasized that it’s very important for a
successful company, like Amway, to continue finding
and developing great young talents.

Richard has a wealth of experience in management consulting in multinational
companies for more than 12 years. He has been Principal in the Boston
Consulting Group where he worked for over 8 years in the US and China.
Prior to joining Amway, he was Asia Pacific Director of Marketing - Food
Industry at Avery. He also worked for Deloitte and Touche as a consultant
focusing on telecom and high-tech sectors, and worked in Taiwan as e-
Business Consultant at IBM.
Richard is an American born Chinese, a graduate from University of Texas
(BA) and University of Chicago (MBA)

As a representative of Chinese business leaders
possessing key global competencies, Mr. Liu
shared with attendees his personal and
professional experience, about how he built his
global competitive advantage.

Quin Liu joined Logitech in 2010 as President of Logitech China. He
succeeded in transforming Logitech into a leading consumer electronics
brand in China.
Before joining Logitech China, Mr. Liu worked in PepsiCo China for more
than 16 years in various senior management positions.
Mr. Liu was born in China and obtained his education in Canada. He also
was a Canadian Chartered Accountant and graduated from University of
Calgary with a bachelor in business management.
Mr. Liu said China has changed, MNCs are facing big opportunities and challenges in Chinese
market, this provides Chinese talents increasingly more opportunities to take global and regional
roles, talents with solid Chinese market experiences are definitely a “premium” for companies.
Mr. Liu also gave AIESEC members some suggestions in the end of his speech:

10. Panel Discussion
“Empowering young people with globally competitive leadership”, was the key focus for the panel
discussion, with a diverse group of corporate executives across sectors. In front of 660 youth from over
124 countries and territories, the experienced panelists shared what it takes for a young graduate to
succeed in today’s competitive market, especially in the global talent pool. The most insightful remark
came when panelists agreed that passion and aligned values are a lot more important than skills and
competencies during talent selection. Additionally, one panelist mentioned that international travel is not
longer considered an advantage; applicants must have more in-depth and meaningful cross-culture
interactions in order to prepare for better global collaboration in the 21st century.
The Panel Talk ended with questions from the floor, discussing about responsibilities from companies
and employees towards society, and how innovation must go beyond daily operation into CSR as well.

How to make a direct selling job more attractive to college graduates
In this workshop, Mr. Shaw used Amway itself as a case study to discuss with attendees
“How can Amway improve their value proposition to attract more college graduate?”
Amway has a very successful business in China, it’s unique value propositions include
entrepreneurial, income, quality products and community. However, the percentage of
young distributors is declining in the past 3 years. Attracting more young distributors into
the business become one of the key strategies for Amway.

Leadership in Design
In today’s global economy, cutting-edge design can lead to better recruiting, productivity and
retention for today’s workforce. Ms. Lam use EF and HULT business school as case study to
lead attendees to discuss:

· EF China as case study in forward-thinking design
Ms. Lam also shared her personal experience in designing and how she find her interest in
real estate.

Melissa Lam joined EF in 2001 and has been based in China
since 2005. Prior to joining EF, Ms. Lam worked in the
investment banking division of Credit Suisse, an international
financial services company, and in corporate development at
Oak Industries Inc., a NSYE-traded telecommunications
component manufacturer.
Ms. Lam is a graduate from Wellesley College (BA) and
Harvard Business School (MBA).

Calvin Chan
How companies in China are using big data analytics to enable better decision-making.
Calvin Chan from AdMaster shared with attendees the unique behaviors and psychology of
Chinese consumers today, he used companies like Coca Cola, Red Bull, Wahaha, Microsoft,
IBM as case studies to explain how advertisers in China are now leveraging big data in
decision making.
Big Data enable companies to migrate from traditional one-way communication into interactive
communication. Real time Big Data visualization helps companies “catch up with the moment”.
Prior to AdMaster, Calvin Chan worked in the US and China
operation of media team of the Nielsen Company.
Mr. Chan is now also chairing the Board of Advisors for
AIESEC in Mainland of China, focusing on youth leadership
development and global traineeship programs.

Thomas Sypré
How executives identify future global, entrepreneurial talents
In this workshop, Thomas Sypré gave a lot of practical advices to young people about how
they can differentiate themselves and be recognized as a leader.
Mr. Sypré shared his working experience in 7 different countries from 1997 to 2013, by
sharing his career development path. He also shared a very important principle to succeed in
career: “Find your values and practice them throughout your whole career.”
Here are some other suggestions Mr. Sypré gave during the workshop:

Thomas Sypré joined Bacardi-Martini Asia Pacific Limited in
2013 as Regional CFO (Asia Pacific), and is based in Hong
Kong. In his role, Mr. Sypré is responsible for all finance
operations and strategic planning in the Region. He is leading
and developing the Finance function and is partnering closely
with the entire Asia Pacific Leadership Team.
Mr. Sypré is a member of the Asia Pacific Leadership Team
and the Global Finance Leadership Team.

As one of the top business leaders in China’s largest
consumer goods multinational corporation, Mr.
Persaud shared with attendees his understanding of
leadership and how to grow leadership skill.
Mr. Persaud said there are three principles as a
leader he believes they are critical:

P&G is one of the largest MNCs in China with over RMB 40
billions in sales. Guy B. Persaud is responsible for the overall
business of P&G’s largest global category – Fabric and
Home Care in China. Mr. Persaud has extensive experience
sgrowing businesses and developing organizations around
the world with P&G. He has more than 18 years of
experiences with assignments in North America, Europe,
and Asia.
Mr. Persaud graduated with a Masters of Business
Administration from McGill University in Montreal, with an
internship at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark.
Mr. Persaud also shared with us the three different levels of the Leadership Pyramid, he told
attendees: “In any job you do, in any career, as you develop, you need to make a bigger impact.”

representatives from 124 countries and
territories presenting their unique culture in
China, together with 450 Chinese youth
