The Future Workforce: The Gig Economy and the Challenges of a Contingent Work...EPAY Systems
Almost 40 million Americans work on a part-time or freelance basis and by 2020 half of the American workforce is expected to be part of this gig economy. This new workforce is full of challenges and benefits for both employers and employees. For employers looking to engage this new workforce there is a lot of legal compliance issues to consider, and for employees looking for freedom they look to be free of benefits as well.

The world in 2020 - The 10 year perspectiveFuture Agenda
2020: A Review of Future Agenda Foresight
At this time of year, many are looking forward to the next twelve months. From the WSJ and the Economist to the FT, CNN and numerous consultancies, a host of organisations are suggesting how technology, economics, trade and politics may change and impact society.
However, others keen to plan, innovate and invest for the future are interested in understanding probable longer-term shifts. It is an uncertain science but those that are able to identify the pivotal global and regional changes ahead of peers can be better prepared.
In 2010 the first global Future Agenda programme looked forward to the key shifts that would impact the World in 2020, so perhaps it is timely to review the results of that research. How well did we anticipate the decade ahead? How does foresight match reality?
During 2010, 50 expert workshops in 25 countries looked at the most significant changes ahead across 16 different topics ranging from the future of cities, food, health, transport and energy to identity, choice, data and authenticity. The 52 top foresights for 2020 were published online and via books, presentations and other media. These covered a wide range of themes. All research was shared openly for all to use under Creative Commons.
This new overview takes a look at the original research, highlights a selection of the foresights for 2020 as identified in 2010 and compares them to the unfolding reality at the start of 2019. It demonstrates a high level of accuracy found with all Future Agenda research – with around 80% alignment between foresight and reality.
If you would like to be involved in some of our upcoming projects for 2019 on changes in digital education, autonomous vehicles, placemaking and energy storage, do get in touch.
In the meantime, we wish everyone a Happy New Year.

As businesses become increasingly software-driven, this gap is more obvious than ever. This survey shares insights into how businesses can attract the best development talent available.
Millennials and the Future of Work: Survey ResultsElance-oDesk
Workers want freedom, and this desire is driving them towards independent (and often entrepreneurial) career paths. Following a prior study on disruption of work from the perspective of businesses, this survey examines the future of work as envisioned by professionals. Results found that many are planning their escape from corporate jobs — 72% of freelancers still at “regular” jobs want to quit entirely, and 61% say they are likely to quit within two years.
Millennials in particular are pursuing independent careers that foster faster progression than traditional hierarchical organizations. Of almost 2,000 Millennial respondents, 58% classified themselves as entrepreneurs. These responses (from more than 3,000 freelancers worldwide who have worked online) quantify the mindset of freelancers today, providing a glimpse into the professional landscape of tomorrow.

Dispatches From The New Economy: The On-Demand Economy And The Future Of WorkIntuit Inc.
From delivery, transportation and household errands, to professional services and consulting, the on-demand economy is changing the way people consume goods and services. It is also changing the way people work. Intuit and Emergent Research forecast that the number of people working on-demand jobs will grow from 3.2 million Americans to 7.6 million by 2020. This is a once in a generation opportunity to empower the future of work and a new face of entrepreneurship.
Dispatches from the New Economy: The On-Demand Workforce provides a detailed analysis of the demographics, motivations and challenges of workers pursuing on-demand jobs. The data comes from a study from Intuit and Emergent Research that examined people working via eleven on-demand economy and online talent marketplace companies. Study participants included: Deliv, Field Nation, HourlyNerd, MBO Partners, OnForce, Uber, Upwork (formerly Elance-oDesk), Visually, Wonolo, and Work Market.
Methodology
A total of 4,622 workers who find work opportunities via the platforms provided by the participating partner companies completed an online survey between September 11 and October 1, 2015. The results were weighted to reflect the proportion of workers in each of the following segments: Drivers/Delivery, Online Talent Marketplaces and Field Service/Onsite Talent. The weights were developed using earlier survey work that sized the on-demand economy. The largest weighted share of on-demand worker respondents from any single company is 16%, with most partner companies providing less than 10% of the respondents.

MBA 665 Final Project Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric .docxtienboileau
MBA 665 Final Project Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric
Overview: The final project for this course is the creation of an impact of governmental action on a business paper. For Milestone Three you will submit the
Analysis section of your final project, which is Section II of the critical elements. Your analysis should include answers to all the questions in the Analysis section
on business environment, sustainability, internal resources, communication, company image, response, impact, and external resources.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Analysis: After submitting your overview, your boss is having second thoughts about bringing Jack Harris and his firm, Crisis Consulting, on board. Before
he makes his final decision he has asked you to provide him with a thorough analysis of the situation faced by your business. He asks you to prepare a
memorandum to him (the CEO) analyzing the situation that your business faces as well as the resources that are available to it. Address the following:
A. Business Environment: Based on your analysis of the governmental action or political challenge, what will be the impact of the governmental
action or political challenge on the business’s financial situation and operations? Does the action represent an opportunity or a threat?
B. Sustainability: Based on your analysis of the governmental action or political challenge, how will the governmental action or political challenge
impact the sustainability of the business?
C. Internal Resources: Evaluate the internal resources of the company, including the business project teams that are available to respond to the
opportunity or threat. In other words, is the business adequately organized to address the opportunity or threat?
D. Communication: How has information about the situation been communicated to various stakeholders? For example, have any public hearings
been held? Have the radio, newspapers, or social media been used?
E. Company Image: Assess how the situation has affected the company’s public image. Has the impact been primarily positive or negative? If the
impact has been primarily negative, what are the positive aspects in addition to the negative aspects? If the impact has been primarily positive,
what are the negative aspects in addition to the positive aspects?
F. Response: What are the potential courses of action to respond to the situation in the current macroeconomic and business environment? In
other words, what is the range of options for the business in this situation?
G. Impact: How will these courses of action impact the business? Make sure to consider both short- and long-term impacts, including operational,
financial, and ethical implications.
H. External Resources: Evaluate the roles and functions of third parties or external resources in the situation. Consider questions such as these in
your response: How will lobbyists be involved in the situation? .

salary, a fundamental question
Knowing that the wages you are offering employees is
fair is intrinsic in your success. When you’re recruiting for a
new position does what you’re offering stack up with your
competitors in your own city, and what about companies
in other major Canadian cities?
It is a matter of perception; if offers are too low will strong
performers choose to work with you? If they are too high
can you afford to keep your staffing levels where they
need to be?
The question of what people are being paid so
fundamental that it is something we are asked about by
our friends and families, the media, our clients and it is a
discussion we have with job candidates literally tens of thousands of times a year.
Randstad technologies has commissioned a comprehensive analysis of our own
internal numbers and numbers from a valued external resource and have produced a
guide to the salaries of roles that matter to you, focused on the cities where you work.
The business intelligence of salary is a complex problem to address. Randstad Canada
places thousands of people a month, in cities across the country in every industry – but
that data, as strong as it is doesn’t comprise all of the data we use and should make
available. To help us fill in the gaps, we worked with the Economic Research Institute

Randstad Canada
places thousands of people a month, in cities across the country in every industry – but
that data, as strong as it is doesn’t comprise all of the data we use and should make
available. To help us fill in the gaps, we worked with the Economic Research Institute
to establish a more comprehensive view of salaries in Canada.
We’ve separated our guide by industry and by region — providing you a focused look
on the jobs that matter to you.
We hope that this guide helps you plan your future growth.

MBO Partners State of Independence in America 2018MBO Partners
The 2018 MBO Partners State of Independence in America paints a nuanced picture of the 42 million Americans who work independently as independent professionals, contractors, consultants, freelancers, side giggers and more.
In this eight year of the report, the longest-running comprehensive look at the independent workforce, American independents emerge as strong, mature, and satisfied.
Even amidst record low unemployment and the strongest jobs market in decades, independent work remains a viable and desirable career path.
"People from all industries choose to become independent professionals,” says Gene Zaino, CEO of MBO Partners. “The key word here is 'choose.'"
With each passing year, independent workers grow in both popularity and in size.
“Independent work and traditional jobs are not engaged in a zero-sum fight, but rather, growing in unison," says Zaino.
Independent work is or has been a part of nearly 47% of American’s careers, a number that is poised to swell to 52% in the next five years.
In the 2018 study, four key trends emerged, each of which mirrors trends in the overall economy.
Traditional jobs aren’t going away. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US economy has added payroll jobs for 93 straight months, the unemployment rate is 4 percent, and there are 6.7 million open jobs.
Full-time independence continues to be a viable and attractive option for many professionals, especially for those with in-demand skills. Companies are growing more comfortable working with independents, utilizing their skills in strategic positions, and paying them more. As a result, the number of High-Earning Independents, those earning more than $100,000, continues to rise—to 3.3 million. Satisfaction among Full-Time independents remains high as well.
The need for-and interest in-part-time independent work continues to grow. Economic pressures and the continued growth of platforms and technology are contributors to this uptick in interest and size.
The new norm is now more likely to be a mix of traditional and independent experience throughout one's lifespan. An individual's career path may include working at a payroll job, working as a Full-Time Independent, and having a side gig while employed at a payroll job. It’s not necessarily an either-or choice.
Independents remain a powerful economic force, contributing more than $1.3 trillion annually to the economy, more than 6.7% of U.S. GDP. The scale is growing globally as well; one in five serve customers outside of the United States as well as domestically.
This year's study underscores that independence will remain a viable and desired option for workers in the years to come.
