The Melbourne Central Tower Project consists of three sub-projects. Two of
these projects have been completed and the other is currently underway.
The building houses 46 floors of office space and therefore any works being
undertaken had to be performed after hours or on weekends.
The Atrium Reglaze
This stage of the project required us to reglazed 45 triangle shaped
roof
panels on the building’s glass atrium. The main challenge that we
faced was transporting both the damaged and new glass to and from the
roof. Standard practice would have been to lift the panels via a boom
crane from the street. This however would have meant closing Elizabeth
Street in Melbourne CBD. To overcome this we used a site-specific gantry
crane, positioned over a void in the roof to lift the glass to and from the
roof. Not only did this eliminate the obstruction of car and tram traffic along
the street below but also dramatically reduced the project’s overall cost. All
of these works were carried out at night to reduce the impact that this
project might have on both the tenants and the public
ME Bank Sign Project
The ME Bank Sign project was a unique glazing venture in that it required
the removal of double glazed window panels to accommodate for the
structural supports needed to support the 18-meter wide ME Bank sign. We
worked on the project in conjunction with Cart Industries and contended
with climatic factors such as wind and rain.
The DGU Reglaze
The third stage of this project, which is currently in the process of being
completed, is the reglaze of over 200 double glazed windows that have
depressurized. Once the seal protecting the inner cavity of a double glazed
unit fails, the window is no longer energy efficient and becomes susceptible
to moisture and mould. Due to a special coating on these windows it is
crucial that we match the replacement glass to the original precisely
otherwise there would be a visible difference. We have now successfully
replaced a number of these panels without issue.
The Melbourne Central Tower Project
6
The Q1 Resort & Spa project
The Q1 Resort & Spa project has proven to be one of the most
challenging and educational projects we have undertaken.
Many of the conventional reglazing methods had to be
rethought and redesigned in order for the necessary repairs to
be carried out. The entire project has been broken down into
three sub-projects each of which being carried out at various
times over the past 4 years.
The Awning Reglaze
By far the largest and most challenging
stage of this project was the reglaze of
over 90 laminated glass panels on the
buildings awning roof. The intricate design
of this
 glass canopy meant that
conventional glazing techniques proved
to be either ineffective or simply too
dangerous. The weight of the panels
meant that reglazing by hand would be
unsafe and near impossible. Lifting the
panels via crane from the street posed
not only a risk to the public below but also
would have caused traffic chaos in
Surfers Paradise. To accommodate for
this issue we designed and fabricated our
own lifting equipment and as a result we
were able to safely reglaze panels
exceeding 4.5metres in length and
reaching weights of up to 320kg each.
The Foyer Reglaze
This aspect of the project required the
replacement of five broken glass facade
panels inside the Q1 building’s foyer. The
panels were located approximately 12
meters above a large indoor pond and
weighed in excess of 300kg. To access
the panels we used two different types of
boom lift, one inside and one outside. To
get the boom lifts within range of the
panels they had to be lowered into the
pond area (once drained) via a
temporary ramp. Following this a series of
slings were used to mount an electric
winch and pulley system above the
panels. This method allowed easy access
to both faces of the glass and proved to
be extremely time effective.
The Facade Reglaze
The facade reglaze stage of this project
had undoubtedly the highest level of
danger as it required the replacement of
both window and spandrel panels at
heights ranging between the 3rd and 47th
floors. Certified temporary anchor points
had to be fixed to the floors of the building
to allow an abseiling team to access these
panels from outside. An electric winch was
also anchored to the building to reduce
the need for manual lifting. With the
assistance of a team inside the building,
each panel was fitted with a series of fall
prevention slings before they were
released. Once secured to the winch, the
panels were completely cut free and
passed inside. A replacement was then
secured with slings and passed back out.
This process meant that each panel did
not have to be lifted from the ground
level, therefore reducing the hang time on
each reglaze.

One Central Park Project
This project was a new glass installation for one of Sydney’s most prominent
shopping and residential villages. Both logistics and the enormity of each
panel were the main challenges in this project. The project involved the
glazing of curtain wall facades and a sprawling atrium roof. Through the use
of effective communication and teamwork we were able to glaze panels
reaching weights in excess of 700kg without complication.
“Taking glazing to the
extreme to give you the
ultimate result”
9
One Central Park
10
10 Eagle Street Brisbane Project
During a severe storm in Brisbane debris was blown into the facade of the 10
Eagle building and broke three panels on the 40th floor. To access these
panels safely we contracted qualified abseilers to assist in the reglaze. By
having people on both the inside and outside of the building we reduced the
risk posed to the public below. Another key aspect of this project was
matching the replacement glass type to that of the building. Any difference in
the colour or shade of the glass would stand out dramatically on this building
so the match had to be perfect.
11
3D CAD Modelling
The methods used on our specialised projects can be extremely
complex which naturally means that work methods can be difficult to
both establish and explain. Through the use of 3D modelling we are
able to test methods prior to being on site and foresee issues before
they arise. The models also provide a visual explanation as to how a
project will be performed and the relevant impacts upon the client,
tenants and public.

  • 5. 5 The Melbourne Central Tower Project consists of three sub-projects. Two of these projects have been completed and the other is currently underway. The building houses 46 floors of office space and therefore any works being undertaken had to be performed after hours or on weekends. The Atrium Reglaze This stage of the project required us to reglazed 45 triangle shaped roof
panels on the building’s glass atrium. The main challenge that we faced was transporting both the damaged and new glass to and from the roof. Standard practice would have been to lift the panels via a boom crane from the street. This however would have meant closing Elizabeth Street in Melbourne CBD. To overcome this we used a site-specific gantry crane, positioned over a void in the roof to lift the glass to and from the roof. Not only did this eliminate the obstruction of car and tram traffic along the street below but also dramatically reduced the project’s overall cost. All of these works were carried out at night to reduce the impact that this project might have on both the tenants and the public ME Bank Sign Project The ME Bank Sign project was a unique glazing venture in that it required the removal of double glazed window panels to accommodate for the structural supports needed to support the 18-meter wide ME Bank sign. We worked on the project in conjunction with Cart Industries and contended with climatic factors such as wind and rain. The DGU Reglaze The third stage of this project, which is currently in the process of being completed, is the reglaze of over 200 double glazed windows that have depressurized. Once the seal protecting the inner cavity of a double glazed unit fails, the window is no longer energy efficient and becomes susceptible to moisture and mould. Due to a special coating on these windows it is crucial that we match the replacement glass to the original precisely otherwise there would be a visible difference. We have now successfully replaced a number of these panels without issue. The Melbourne Central Tower Project
  • 6. 6 The Q1 Resort & Spa project The Q1 Resort & Spa project has proven to be one of the most challenging and educational projects we have undertaken. Many of the conventional reglazing methods had to be rethought and redesigned in order for the necessary repairs to be carried out. The entire project has been broken down into three sub-projects each of which being carried out at various times over the past 4 years. The Awning Reglaze By far the largest and most challenging stage of this project was the reglaze of over 90 laminated glass panels on the buildings awning roof. The intricate design of this
glass canopy meant that conventional glazing techniques proved to be either ineffective or simply too dangerous. The weight of the panels meant that reglazing by hand would be unsafe and near impossible. Lifting the panels via crane from the street posed not only a risk to the public below but also would have caused traffic chaos in Surfers Paradise. To accommodate for this issue we designed and fabricated our own lifting equipment and as a result we were able to safely reglaze panels exceeding 4.5metres in length and reaching weights of up to 320kg each. The Foyer Reglaze This aspect of the project required the replacement of five broken glass facade panels inside the Q1 building’s foyer. The panels were located approximately 12 meters above a large indoor pond and weighed in excess of 300kg. To access the panels we used two different types of boom lift, one inside and one outside. To get the boom lifts within range of the panels they had to be lowered into the pond area (once drained) via a temporary ramp. Following this a series of slings were used to mount an electric winch and pulley system above the panels. This method allowed easy access to both faces of the glass and proved to be extremely time effective. The Facade Reglaze The facade reglaze stage of this project had undoubtedly the highest level of danger as it required the replacement of both window and spandrel panels at heights ranging between the 3rd and 47th floors. Certified temporary anchor points had to be fixed to the floors of the building to allow an abseiling team to access these panels from outside. An electric winch was also anchored to the building to reduce the need for manual lifting. With the assistance of a team inside the building, each panel was fitted with a series of fall prevention slings before they were released. Once secured to the winch, the panels were completely cut free and passed inside. A replacement was then secured with slings and passed back out. This process meant that each panel did not have to be lifted from the ground level, therefore reducing the hang time on each reglaze.
  • 8. 8 One Central Park Project This project was a new glass installation for one of Sydney’s most prominent shopping and residential villages. Both logistics and the enormity of each panel were the main challenges in this project. The project involved the glazing of curtain wall facades and a sprawling atrium roof. Through the use of effective communication and teamwork we were able to glaze panels reaching weights in excess of 700kg without complication. “Taking glazing to the extreme to give you the ultimate result”
  • 10. 10 10 Eagle Street Brisbane Project During a severe storm in Brisbane debris was blown into the facade of the 10 Eagle building and broke three panels on the 40th floor. To access these panels safely we contracted qualified abseilers to assist in the reglaze. By having people on both the inside and outside of the building we reduced the risk posed to the public below. Another key aspect of this project was matching the replacement glass type to that of the building. Any difference in the colour or shade of the glass would stand out dramatically on this building so the match had to be perfect.
  • 11. 11 3D CAD Modelling The methods used on our specialised projects can be extremely complex which naturally means that work methods can be difficult to both establish and explain. Through the use of 3D modelling we are able to test methods prior to being on site and foresee issues before they arise. The models also provide a visual explanation as to how a project will be performed and the relevant impacts upon the client, tenants and public.
