This deck was presented by me in my Keynote Speech at Github Field Day Nepal 2022. In the keynote, I talked about how we can foster resilient tech communities.
Being a 1.2billion-brains-strong nation, talent and genius is in abundance with us, but somehow we fail to create necessary and apt system to extract this juice and taste it. Some say illiteracy, while others ignorance, but truth is, that lack of opportunity and trust is why the inventions of the talented innovators of our country go unnoticed and unacknowledged. The non-profit relationship of TYIF aims at bringing the accomplishments of the Indian talent in the spotlight.
TYIF will be an active society working towards combing for the creativity, and guiding the budding discoverers to materialize their idea into working model; helping them would be experienced pioneers who have trodden an innovative un-explored path in the past, and have risen as the masterminds of the present society.
How do we change everything when everything is changing?Catherine Howe
This document discusses the shift from an industrial to a networked society driven by digital technologies. It notes that constant change is the new norm, and organizations must become agile and adaptive. It outlines skills needed for the networked individual and networked leadership, including the ability to work with networks, take data-driven decisions, show openness and experimentation, and cultivate personal relevance and brand. Networked leadership requires building trust, understanding people's relationships with change, and facilitating participation, advocacy and multidisciplinary work. The document argues organizations must be ready to develop these skills to thrive in the networked age.
The document outlines the vision, mission, objectives, and goals of an organization called Spurting Innovation, which aims to spur grassroots innovation in developing countries by connecting innovators, developing their ideas into projects, and helping translate innovations into self-sustaining enterprises that benefit humanity. The organization plans to find 500 ideas by 2015 that can be developed into 50 projects, with the goal of producing one flagship successful innovation.
Technology in general -- and the internet and social media specifically -- have changed the way we work. And not just by shifting the mediums through which we communicate, but by changing the very nature of what we communicate. Technology is blurring the line between our personal and professional selves and changing our expectations of each other and our organizations.
Each nonprofit’s story is more than a mission statement, a website or an annual report. The story also includes the people inside and those on the front lines. It's how individuals represent the mission statement and organizational values that bring the vision to life online and out in the world. Blending individual and organizational stories is crucial to success in the digital age.
So, how can organizations and individuals work together to do this?
Nancy Lyons and Meghan Wilker of the Geek Girls Guide will speak about the intersection of technology and humanity, and the role of individuals in representing an organization.
Design as Social Capital.
All good design leads to Social Capital. It is at the core of everything we design. Some call that process the user-centred design and some as human-centred design. The notion of social capital relies on building solutions that are based on Reciprocity, Trust and Cooperation.
A lot of the population in India still does not have access to the basic amenities in life, and when we talk of building solutions that are going to be useful in these contexts, the Social Capital is something that one cannot ignore.
When working in the development sector, towards creating solutions that have high impact and are long lasting, one should seek help from Social Capital.
These are the Slides from my talk at the UX India 2016 conference, where I put out an open call to the UX community to leverage the notion of Social Capital and build highly impacting solutions.

This document discusses how adopting a "Connected Community Culture" can help organizations address common issues like lack of purpose, collaboration, and innovation through social technologies and mass collaboration. It argues that a Connected Community Culture occurs when organizations intentionally harness social capabilities to align culture with strategic goals and unleash collective potential. This represents the next evolution from traditional "Command and Control" cultures to high-performance cultures. By bringing together purpose, community, social technology, and mass collaboration, organizations can achieve "Strategy Ownership" - aligning culture with strategy to drive great outcomes by fostering ownership, ability, and accountability among employees. The key roles of leaders are to start the right conversations, link activities to vision and purpose, and actively participate in

Technical Documentation 101 for Data Engineers.pdfShristi Shrestha
This document discusses metadata and data documentation best practices. It begins by defining metadata as data that describes other data, such as author, file size, and date for text files. It recommends documenting the table or database last documented, documenter, business case, tools used, and data quality. Good documentation practices include knowing your audience and purpose, keeping documentation minimal but effective, and building user documentation. Common data documentation templates include CRISP-DM, which outlines phases for documentation like business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation, and deployment. Thorough data documentation is important for project understanding, reuse, and governance.

A set of slides that provides an introduction to Keyword Research for Search Engine Optimization. In the presentation, I introduce keywords, types of keywords, and the process of keyword research.
On-page SEO refers to optimizing individual web pages to improve a site's rankings in search engines. It is important because it helps search engines understand what a page is about so they can determine if search queries are relevant to the site. Key elements of on-page SEO include optimized content with relevant keywords, optimized URLs, meta descriptions, titles, headings, images, and internal linking. Proper optimization of these elements helps search engines understand pages and return better search results that meet users' intent.
Technical SEO refers to optimizing a website for search engines by improving crawlability, speed, and other technical factors. Crawlability ensures search engines can access all pages through the robots.txt file. Speed is important for users and search engines; pages should load within 3 seconds. Other technical SEO factors include minimizing 404 errors, implementing HTTPS and SSL certificates, mobile-friendly design, XML sitemaps, and using Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to monitor performance. Technical SEO lays the foundation for effective marketing through search engines.

LF Energy Webinar: Carbon Data Specifications: Mechanisms to Improve Data Acc...DanBrown980551
This LF Energy webinar took place June 20, 2024. It featured:
-Alex Thornton, LF Energy
-Hallie Cramer, Google
-Daniel Roesler, UtilityAPI
-Henry Richardson, WattTime
In response to the urgency and scale required to effectively address climate change, open source solutions offer significant potential for driving innovation and progress. Currently, there is a growing demand for standardization and interoperability in energy data and modeling. Open source standards and specifications within the energy sector can also alleviate challenges associated with data fragmentation, transparency, and accessibility. At the same time, it is crucial to consider privacy and security concerns throughout the development of open source platforms.
This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups.
Three primary specifications will be discussed:
-Discovery and client registration, emphasizing transparent processes and secure and private access
-Customer data, centering around customer tariffs, bills, energy usage, and full consumption disclosure
-Power systems data, focusing on grid data, inclusive of transmission and distribution networks, generation, intergrid power flows, and market settlement data
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.
