He used Photoshop for the front cover because he was familiar with it, though placement of cover lines could be improved. Quark was new software and took longer to learn, limiting formatting options for the contents page. Overall, he followed conventions but has room to better challenge real magazines and learn new software.

I have learned a lot about new technologies through constructing my final video project. Dealing with the DSLR camera and tripod was made easier by learning from a photographer friend, but software posed more challenges initially. With time and practice, I learned to use Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro for video editing tasks like adding dissolves and fade transitions between clips. The project required learning to use various software programs simultaneously as I applied my new technical skills to complete the final video.

PES Summer Reading 2013
All students at Phippsburg Elementary School are encouraged to read over the summer break to prevent summer reading loss. By the end of the summer, 59% of students had experienced some level of reading loss, with higher percentages for younger grades. To combat this, students are sent home with books and reading recommendations from the school. The local library will also be hosting special programs on Wednesdays for PES students to come in and read. Teachers will be present at these programs to engage with students and help prevent the cumulative effects of summer reading loss by the middle school years.
