Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

but
for
the
most
part
it
is
100%
free!
Why
Do
So
Many
Cool
Websites
Use
WordPress?
ü It
stored
in
the
“cloud”,
so
the
soLware
can
be
used
by
anyone,
anywhere
and
at
any
8me.
ü It’s
super
easy
to
use.
If
you
can
use
Word,
you
can
use
WordPress.
ü You
can
create
really
cool
things
with
it.
All
you
have
to
do
is
dream
it,
WordPress
can
do
it
with
a
database
called
MySQL
and
code
like
PHP
and
CSS.
That’s
nerd
talk
that
you
only
have
to
learn
if
you
want
to.
14. ü It’s
really
easy
to
learn
because
there
is
so
much
free
informa3on
available
on
the
internet.
Free
tutorials,
videos,
and
support
forums
are
all
wai8ng
for
you
and
ready
to
help
teach
you
WordPress.
Why
Do
So
Many
Cool
Websites
Use
WordPress?
ü There
is
a
huge
community
of
people
behind
it.
The
community
creates
and
supports
the
soLware.
We
are
also
friends
and
we
support
each
other.
ü It’s
based
on
a
GPL
(General
Public
License)
which
means
it
is
open
source.
This
really
means
the
“community”
owns
it
and
not
a
person
or
company.
15. A
Few
Facts
About
WordPress
ü Mad
Mullenweg
and
Mike
Lidle
created
it
in
2003
while
in
college.
ü They
just
wanted
a
beder
way
to
blog
and
share
images.
So
the
create
it.
ü Today
WordPress
is
used
by
20%
of
the
websites
in
the
world.
ü Time
Magazine
named
Mad
one
of
the
30
People
Under
30
Changing
the
World.
ü Mad
is
now
worth
well
over
$40
million
dollars.
16. ü You
