This document discusses a research project examining the influence of prison overcrowding on inmate mental health. It notes that mental health problems are more prevalent in incarcerated populations compared to the general public. Common issues include substance abuse, depression, anxiety and personality disorders. The World Health Organization recognizes the need for promoting prisoner healthcare. Overcrowding negatively impacts the mental well-being of all inmates by increasing risks of developing mental disorders, communicable diseases, and self-harm behaviors. The research aims to study these relationships between prison overcrowding and inmate mental health.
