The case of vehicle networking financial services accomplished by China Mobile
As the largest mobile telecom carrier in the world, China Mobile has the world's largest wireless mobile network, based on the existing vehicle networking equipment (CAN-bus, OBD, ADAS, equipment fatigue warning system, GPS, driving recorder, etc.), which can provide vehicle networking service, based on vehicle networking data analysis and provide users risk assessment, vehicle real-time risk monitoring, and comprehensive financial institutions for the vehicle and provide data support for differentiated financial services.
The main contents include the following:
1. Vehicle and drivers data collection: Collecting information of vehicle's mechanical status, driving behavior, and surrounding environment through OBD, ADAS, fatigue warning system, GPS, and other equipment.

This practice, common for some time in research labs and digital native companies, is now making its waves across large enterprises that traditionally used proprietary solutions and outsourced most of their IT. The availability of large volumes of data, coupled with more and more complex analytical use cases driven by innovations in data science have yielded these traditional and on premise architectures to become obsolete in favor of cloud architectures powered by open source technologies.
The idea of building an in-house platform at a larger enterprise comes with many challenges of its own: Build an Architecture that combines the best elements of data lakes and data warehouses to accommodate all kinds from BI to ML use cases. The need to interoperate with all the company’s data and technology, including legacy systems. Cultural transformation, including a commitment to adopt agile processes and data driven approaches.
This presentation describes a success story on building a Lakehouse in an enterprise such as LIDL, a successful chain of grocery stores operating in 32 countries worldwide. We will dive into the cloud-based architecture for batch and streaming workloads based on many different source systems of the enterprise and how we applied security on architecture and data. We will detail the creation of a curated Data Lake comprising several layers from a raw ingesting layer up to a layer that presents cleansed and enriched data to the business units as a kind of Data Marketplace.
A lot of focus and effort went into building a semantic Data Lake as a sustainable and easy to use basis for the Lakehouse as opposed to just dumping source data into it. The first use case being applied to the Lakehouse is the Lidl Plus Loyalty Program. It is already deployed to production in 26 countries with more than 30 millions of customers’ data being analyzed on a daily basis. In parallel to productionizing the Lakehouse, a cultural and organizational change process was undertaken to get all involved units to buy into the new data driven approach.

How to Gain a Competitive Edge with an Open Source, Purpose-built Time Series...
We are always looking for ways to make our solutions work better and smarter. We accomplish this by tracking the performance of each of the components underlying our solution. All this critical performance data has a time stamp and a value - also known as time series data. If this important time-stamped data is at the heart of initiatives to keep things performant, why are we entrusting this data to an ordinary relational database?
In this webinar, Daniella Pontes, Product Marketing Manager at InfluxData, will review why you should use a Time Series Database (TSDB) for your important Times Series Data and not one of the traditional datastore you may have used in the past, She will discuss how Time Series Databases are built with specific workloads and requirements in mind, including the ability to ingest millions of data points per second; to perform real-time queries across these large data sets in a non-blocking manner; to downsample and evict high-precision low-value data; to optimize data storage to reduce storage costs; and to perform complex time-bound queries to extract meaningful insight from the data. All capabilities you would have to build yourself when using a traditional database.
Evaluation of TPC-H on Spark and Spark SQL in ALOJA
The Evaluation of TPC-H on Spark and Spark SQL in ALOJA was conducted at the Big Data Lab to obtain the master degree in Management Information Systems at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. Furthermore, the analysis was partially accomplished in collaboration and close coordination with the Barcelona Super Computer Center.
The intention of this research was the integration of a TPC-H on Spark Scala benchmark into ALOJA, an open-source and public platform for automated and cost-efficient benchmarks and to perform an evaluation on the runtime of Spark Scala with or without Hive Metastore compared to Spark SQL. Various alternate file formats with different applied compressions on underlying data and its impact are evaluated. The conducted performance evaluation exposed diverse and captivating outcomes for both benchmarks. Further investigations attempt to detect possible bottlenecks and other irregularities. The aim is to provide an explanation to enhance knowledge of Spark’s engine based on examining the physical plans. Our experiments show, inter alia, that: (1) Spark Scala performs better in case of heavy expression calculation, (2) Spark SQL is the better choice in case of strong data access locality in combination with heavyweight parallel execution. In conclusion, diverse results were observed with the consequence that each API has its advantages and disadvantages.
Surprisingly, our findings are well spread between Spark SQL and Spark Scala and contrary to our expectations Spark Scala did not outperform Spark SQL in all aspects but support the idea that applied optimizations appear to be implemented in a different way by Spark for its core and its extension Spark SQL. The API on top of Spark provides extra information about the underlying structured data, which is probably used to perform additional optimizations.
In conclusion, our research demonstrates that there are differences in the generation of query execution plans that goes hand-in-hand with similar discoveries leading to inefficient joins, and it underlines the importance of our benchmark to identify disparities and bottlenecks.

My topic of thesis is about constructing prediction model of wind energy and solar energy by artificial neural network with genetic algorithm.
Because the electricity price in Nordic area is determined in advance, it is beneficial to construct prediction model for renewable energy. With the mentioned prediction model, we can construct hybrid system (wind energy and solar energy) to produce hydrogen. Then the fuel cell can produce electricity and connect to the network by using the constructed prediction model. In our prediction model, the critical parameters like 10 minutes average wind speed and deviation for wind energy could be used as historical data to train to artificial neural network (ANN). We also hope to utilize genetic algorithm (GA) to speed up the ANN training and hybrid system scale design.

Session Acensi : Avec le développement des ordinateurs à plusieurs cœurs, la programmation concurrente est devenue incontournable pour optimiser l’utilisation de toutes les ressources disponibles. Sa complexité limite pourtant son adoption par un grand nombre de personnes. La librairie Task Parrallel Library (TPL) cherche à simplifier ce paradigme de programmation. Dans cette session, nous allons vous faire découvrir ou redécouvrir l’une des nouveautés du Framework .NET 4.5 à savoir l’introduction de la librairie DataFlow dans la Task Parallel Library (TPL). Cette librairie fournit un ensemble de primitives permettant d’implémenter le pattern « Acteur / Agent ». Elle permet notamment de créer très facilement des pipelines complexes de tâches grâce à un enchaînement de « Blocks ». Dans cette session nous allons donc vous démontrer avec un exemple d’application concret comment TPL DataFlow peut nous aider à simplifier un problème de programmation concurrente.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:

- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
