The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

With that in mine let me introduce myself… I am Nigel I am the Marketing Chef I do all the selling around here. Who are you tell us abit about you. What I am going to be talking about today is… how companies are using a simple tool called Set and Forget Marketing to keep in contact with their existing customers to get them to purchase more frequently. The meeting will: take about half an hour unless you have any questions. The Result for you?... Is, you will learn how set and forget marketing will save you time and money, and help you build repeat and referral business from your customers. This meeting is Interactive through the Chat Box and we are going to have a question and answers session and also short discussion forum later on in our meeting.
A bit about us and who we are Set and Forget Marketing.com is a division of Permission Marketing which is a New Zealand owned business operating in Auckland. We are 10 staff large and started off as a web design company where we kept in contact with our customers on a regular basis. One day one of our clients said to us you are sending out these personal newsletters can you do it for us, we did and she told one person which lead to another and the rest is history. We’re now Permission Marketing 9 years later managing over 500,000 and more email addresses to help businesses keep in contact with their customers. And for the technical people all information is stored in a security centre in Michigan over in the US and if you would like more information about security I can send you a document about our security policy. So that is how the business grew, and from that we generated a system called Set and Forget Marketing.com to help businesses get customers to purchase more frequently by personally and automatically keeping in contact with their customers.
How would you like to do these three things with your customers, and connect with your customers? Keep in contact with them Build Relationships Encourage repeat and referral business What I am going to show you today is a system businesses are using called ‘SetandForgetMarekting.com’ which will provide you with opportunity and benefits for your business I will be explaining what the system is, how it works, and how this technology can save you time and effort in keeping in contact with your customers to build relationships so that your customers purchase more frequently. We will be discussing how this technology can benefit yourself and your business.
Lets get started by quickly looking at the different ways businesses are using SetandForgetMarketing.com. Which one of those strategies would you like to implement in your business to increase revenue? Repeat Business communication welcoming and reminding clients and customers to re-purchase. Customer education to educate customers about the story of your business. Informing them step by step of all the services and products your provide so that when the need arises of you are top of mind. Loyalty Communication that is used for businesses who have customers not needing to purchase the same product but you want them to remember you to refer more business to you and start building a relationship with them. Product or service launch to existing customers drip-feed launch communication over a period of time to convert existing customers Prospecting System in business we are generating leads all the time. Often leads who are warm or cold do not get regular communication. So now businesses can just simply add them to a campaign and communication will be sent over to the leads over time automatically. Now we are going to look at how to easily keep in contact with customers so they purchase more frequently. Why do businesses always ask for their customers First Name, Last Name, Email address and Phone number along with other important details The reason is that for a business… A database of their customers is very important so that you can create system to leverage off and communicate with that database. So every set and forget marketing user gets a unique user name and password to get access to their own ‘SetandForgetMarketing.com’ system which allows them to fully manage their database and communicate with their customers. What we are going to do now is have an interactive session where I will go online and log into the ‘SetandForgetMarketing.com’ system to show you what the user interface looks like. When creating a campaign the first thing you do is create your marketing messages that you want the set and forget system sending out to your customers over a period of time. So What you do is you upload your company’s colours in an email banner at the top of your email for branding. Click 1: And then you personalise the email by greeting everyone by their first names. And finally you make sure the communication is short and customised for your customers. As you can see on screen you create an email just like you would normally and then you save the email as a template for the set and forget marketing system to send out for you automatically.
So once you have created those personal marketing messages you would create a set and forget marketing campaign that would personally keep in contact with all of your customers while you worked on getting new business. This is an example of how a customised campaign looks like. In the screen the blue boxes are email templates that have been preset, green boxes are wait times between automatic sends, and the red box is an email reminder. In this example the campaign would send an email to all customers welcoming them to the company and family to make them feel welcomed, wait a month, automatically send the 2 nd email, wait 3 weeks and automatically send the 3 rd email and finally it would wait 1 month and then automatically release the last email of the campaign asking the customer to simply return. Also at the end of the campaign you can set up a neat reminder to call the customer at the end of the campaign to remind them to return and this offers a different personal touch, and a combination of touches is always important. After you prepare your marketing messages, and put them into a campaign the set and forget marketing system then does the work for you and all you have to do then is add customers to the system. This tool allows businesses to preset a campaign of personal communication, relevant to their customers, with colour and it can be used again and again for every customer. What I am going to do now is show you a live site of how easy it is to add an email to a campaign.
