The figure-ground rule states,
in organising stimuli, we tend
to automatically distinguish
between figure and ground
The figure with the more
detail, stands out against the
background with less detail

3. Similarity
The similarity rule
states that, in
organising stimuli, we
group together
elements that appear
similar

4. Closure
The closure rules state
that, in organising stimuli,
we tend to fill in any
missing parts of a figure
and see the parts as
complete

5. Proximity
The proximity rule states that, in organising stimuli, we group
together objects that are physically close to one another
