2. Gerund vs Infinitive
• There is no rule for determining wich
verbs are followed by gerunds and which
by infinitives.
• However you can notice that modifies
how to do the action if continously or
not, OR to state that you are sure about
how to do it.
3. • We use infinitives
VERB + OBJECT + INFINITIVE after
certain verbs:
hope try need want learn decide promise agree
advice invite allow ask tell warn would like
• We use gerunds VERB + GERUND
after certain verbs, incluiding:
avoid enjoy stop finish give up consider like hate
not mind love enjoy stop finish
4. • Some verbs can be followed by either,
with little or no change of meaning.
I like watching TV/ I like to watch TV.
5. • I try to make a list for how I will
spend my money.
• I enjoy finding offers when I go
shooping.
• I prefer to pay in cash/I prefer paying
in cash.
