This document discusses preliminary screening of gold mine tailings for their potential use in geopolymer synthesis and acid mine drainage prevention. It presents results that show gold tailings have silicon to aluminum ratios suitable for geopolymerization, though some from Nestor mine are too high in silica. It also describes a thermochemical process that converts quartz in tailings to water-soluble silicates, allowing more tailings to be used for geopolymers. The screening assessed suitability of different mine tailings as starting materials for geopolymer synthesis and acid mine drainage prevention through geopolymerization.
