17. Road tunnels
In the last five years, Geoconsult has designed above ten road tunnels for highways, it means,
above 25 km excavation. Besides, we have participated as Supervision in important
infrastructure works such as bypass highways in cities like Bilbao, Madrid, etc
SOUTH METROPOLITAN BYPASS IN BILBAO:
(Pais Vasco. SPAIN)
This infrastructure runs a bypass beltway around
Bilbao city. For this, it was designed seven tunnels
with a big section ((Argalario, Mesperuza, Santa
Águeda, Arraiz, Larraskitu, Arnotegi and
Seberetxe), above 20 km excavated.
Some of our pioneer designed works are known
worldwide such as the construction of a huge

PEINADOR TUNNEL

Double tunnel for highway that runs 20 m under
Peinador Airport. The tunnel has been designed to

In O Barco de Valdeorras (Orense), it has been
designed several underground chambers to
exploit shales.
Their dimensions are enormous for this type of
material: 60 m high x 30 m wide x 120 m long.
“APARIO” CHAMBER FOR CALCAREOUS
AGGREGATES EXPLOITATION
(Vizcaya. SPAIN)
In Lemona, it was developed the project Apario
Chamber. It is an underground exploitation for
calcareous aggregate. It uses the sublevels
method.
