SC7 Webinar 4 04/05/2017 SatCen Presentation "The Secure Societies Community ...BigData_Europe
The BigDataEurope project aims to integrate big data, software, and communities to address societal challenges in Europe. The EU SatCen is building a Secure Societies community, eliciting big data requirements, and implementing a Space and Security pilot for the project. The Secure Societies pilot uses Sentinel-1 satellite imagery, Twitter data, and Reuters news articles to detect changes and events. The change detection workflow analyzes Sentinel-1 imagery to detect areas with changes, while the event detection workflow monitors news and social media to cluster events and verify locations. The pilot is being optimized to improve scalability, add cybersecurity mechanisms, and enhance visualization tools.

The document discusses the importance of gaming technology for Industry 4.0. Gaming technology utilizes sensors, data, and predictive analytics which are at the core of Industry 4.0. Digital twins are also discussed as virtual representations of physical assets that can include CAD models, sensors readings, and control systems. The status of gaming technology is examined, noting its growing role in automotive, research, education and other industries. Finally, the document states that gaming technology is already in high demand and an important part of many Internet services and tools used today.
This document discusses digital twin technology, including its definition, history, importance, enabling technologies, and applications. A digital twin is a virtual representation of a physical object that can dynamically change as the physical object is monitored. Gartner predicts that by 2021, 50% of large industrial companies will use digital twins to gain a 10% improvement in effectiveness. Digital twins are enabled by technologies like IoT, cloud computing, big data analytics, blockchain, and VR/AR. They have applications in customer experience, performance tuning, digital machine learning, healthcare, smart cities, and maintenance. While digital twins allow for improved products, some cons include high costs and a complex infrastructure requirement.

Urbanization is occurring at an unprecedented rate representing the largest impact humans have had on the planet. Governments are devoting less of their limited funds to capital infrastructure projects and are looking to the private sector to fill the funding gap. This is driving a focus on construction productivity. Worldwide one third of energy usage is used by buildings. Faced with environmental issues many governments are mandating energy-conservation measures for buildings and for infrastructure. These trends are driving investment in technology. In construction which represents 10% of world GDP, the adoption of building information modeling (BIM) has accelerated in the last decade primarily motivated by the need to reduce the risk of budget and schedule overruns. In addition increasingly architects, engineers and designers are realizing the value of integrating geospatial data and technology into the model-based design process. The integration of geospatial not only addresses specific vertical industry problems such as a mandated low carbon footprint, but also enables a more holistic approach to the major challenges of designing more resilient cities.

IRJET- Technical Paper on Use of Smart Urban Simulation Software –‘Citysi...IRJET Journal
The document discusses the CitySIM software, which is an urban simulation tool that aims to provide decision support for sustainable urban planning. It can model the energy flows of buildings at the urban scale, including energy demand, supply from renewable sources, and emissions. The summary discusses:
1) CitySIM allows users to import 3D building models and define building properties to simulate hourly energy streams over time at the neighborhood or city level.
2) Case studies show it can examine urban growth patterns over time and compare self-organized versus planned development scenarios.
3) Validation was conducted using field surveys and building energy modeling software to validate CitySIM's novel thermal modeling algorithms.

The document describes a student capstone project that analyzes traffic data through collecting tweets, traffic camera images, and weather data to provide users with a traffic analysis for Cincinnati. Various techniques are used like sentiment analysis of tweets, image processing of traffic cameras to count cars, and analyzing weather patterns. A web application was created to display the current traffic analysis on a scale and provide additional context to help users understand the reported traffic status.
This document describes a handheld augmented reality system called Vidente for aiding field workers in tasks related to underground infrastructure visualization, maintenance, and planning. Key aspects of the system include translating geospatial data from utility databases into 3D visualizations, using tools like an "excavation lens" to improve depth perception of underground objects, and filtering capabilities to reduce visual clutter. The system was tested with utility workers and received positive feedback. It addresses the need for improved mobile access to underground utility maps and plans.
This document proposes a business process model for a real-time GIS and Internet of Things solution to improve public safety for a gas company. The solution aims to (1) improve situational awareness by continuously monitoring the environment for risks or emergencies in real-time and (2) enable quick and efficient response actions. It connects a network of sensors to gather real-time data, performs risk analysis, and shares information as web services. This allows the development of operational dashboards and mobile apps to help dispatchers and field crews address emergencies. The gas company expects to reduce costs and increase efficiency using this flexible platform.

Optimizing Net Interest Margin (NIM) in the Financial Sector (With Examples).pdfshruti1menon2
NIM is calculated as the difference between interest income earned and interest expenses paid, divided by interest-earning assets.
Importance: NIM serves as a critical measure of a financial institution's profitability and operational efficiency. It reflects how effectively the institution is utilizing its interest-earning assets to generate income while managing interest costs.

After this second you should be able to: Explain the main determinants of demand for any mineral product, and their relative importance; recognise and explain how demand for any product is likely to change with economic activity; recognise and explain the roles of technology and relative prices in influencing demand; be able to explain the differences between the rates of growth of demand for different products.
Fabular Frames and the Four Ratio ProblemMajid Iqbal
Digital, interactive art showing the struggle of a society in providing for its present population while also saving planetary resources for future generations. Spread across several frames, the art is actually the rendering of real and speculative data. The stereographic projections change shape in response to prompts and provocations. Visitors interact with the model through speculative statements about how to increase savings across communities, regions, ecosystems and environments. Their fabulations combined with random noise, i.e. factors beyond control, have a dramatic effect on the societal transition. Things get better. Things get worse. The aim is to give visitors a new grasp and feel of the ongoing struggles in democracies around the world.
Stunning art in the small multiples format brings out the spatiotemporal nature of societal transitions, against backdrop issues such as energy, housing, waste, farmland and forest. In each frame we see hopeful and frightful interplays between spending and saving. Problems emerge when one of the two parts of the existential anaglyph rapidly shrinks like Arctic ice, as factors cross thresholds. Ecological wealth and intergenerational equity areFour at stake. Not enough spending could mean economic stress, social unrest and political conflict. Not enough saving and there will be climate breakdown and ‘bankruptcy’. So where does speculative design start and the gambling and betting end? Behind each fabular frame is a four ratio problem. Each ratio reflects the level of sacrifice and self-restraint a society is willing to accept, against promises of prosperity and freedom. Some values seem to stabilise a frame while others cause collapse. Get the ratios right and we can have it all. Get them wrong and things get more desperate.

DHL use drones to deliver medical supplies to a small German island
DHL will use drones to deliver medical supplies to a small German island. The company's quad-rotor "parcelcopter" will transport packages to the island of Juist, home to between 1,500 and 1,700 people, and DHL claims this marks the first unmanned drone delivery service to launch in Europe. Flights will occur daily through October; Reuters says the drone will make trips when ferries and flights — the typical methods of traveling to Juist — aren't runnin
Please contact us, if you are facing a challenging task in which a flying robot can provide useful services. Some examples are highly dangerous applications that may pose risks to humans (risk of falling, suffocation, drowning and poisoning). Also, the location of the inspection site may be critical factor when entering is difficult or impossible. From the economic perspective, the costs of employing a flying robot are 1/10 th to that of a helicopter. We assist you in the planning process, and give you advice on the options of our flying robots.
