2. Commercial Sector Engagement
GEO welcomes mutually-beneficial engagement
from commercial sector organizations to connect
with and learn from its expansive Earth observation
expert and user communities.
Avenues of engagement include:
• Apply to become a GEO Associate;
• Contribute to the GEO Work Programme;
• Use the information products developed by GEO
community;
• Provide open data or software and services to the
GEO community; and
• Participate in and sponsor GEO events.
3. New Membership Category: GEO Associate
Companies and national associations of companies,
non-governmental, not-for-profit and civil society
organizations that:
• Have a mandate related to Earth observations;
• Are registered in the territory of a GEO Member
country;
• Are able demonstrate two or more years of
substantive involvement with GEO; and
• Identify their self-funded and sustained
contribution to GEO.
4. FOSS4G2019 EO data challenge
The FOSS4G EO Data Challenge challenges startups,
developers, students and researchers to come up
with open source applications using large volumes of
EO data and state-of-the art technologies.

Prizes:
• EUR 16,000 cash award;
• Invitations to join the ESA-ESRIN Copernicus app
camp - all expenses paid;
• Consulting to turn ideas into sustainable business;
• Credits to be used with FOSS4G 2019 EO Data
Challenge Infrastructure Partners.
