A general skill is a skill that you can use in
more than one job such as:
• Teamwork
• Communication
• Dedication
• Confidence
• Manners
3. Team Work
• Being friendly to other staff will make a business flow more effectively
meaning more work will get done, this is because people can work
together to try reach a set goal.
• Benefits you to work with colleagues in work and teaches you to
communicate easier with people out of your work environment.
• Get on with colleagues (managers, staff, clients)
• New ideas been brought into the business – discussion skills.
• Tasks may be completed quicker by working with others.
• The business will value team work VS independent
• Motivates people
• Competitive
4. Hard Worker.
• Being a hard worker is having good attendance and
punctuality towards work, this shows the worker is reliable
and is dedicated to the job. If the worker has good attendance
and punctuality they have an organised lifestyle this means
they will be a good employer for the business at keeping
organisation skills.
• A hard worker cooperates with others without a hesitation
such as other colleagues, managers and clients.
• Being a hard worker so that when you set a task for them to
complete, you know that they will complete the task to their
full ability and they will work hard to get the task given done
on time.
5. Confidence.
• A key thing to be a key worker is confidence.
Confidence helps you to communicate better with
people such as colleagues, bosses and clients.
Communication skills are helpful because when a
confident worker is talking to a client it shows that
they know what they are doing and it may also make
the client feel more comfortable to communicate
back with if they’re shy or not so confident with their
self.
6. Manners.
• A polite worker is a key thing in a
business because no one wants to talk to
someone who is rude and has no
manners. Just by asking a client who
works into a shop “hello, how are you?”
may change there opinion on not just
you as a worker but other workers in the
shop.
7. Specific skills
A specific skill is a skill that is specifically needed
for a job, such as:
• IT Tutor - Degree educated within
IT/Computing/ Multimedia

• A degree in teaching is required so you have
an understanding how to teach people skills
needed.
• We would expect the tutor to know it all
about the subject they are teaching, having
the correct knowledge is vital.
9. Receptionist - To have a full
understanding of all equipment within
the Front Office including Aremis,
Quadranet, Paging Systems, Word and
Email
• A receptionist needs the skills to use these
programmes on a computer as they need to keep
information for the company that they work for and
need to keep their selves organised.
10. Head of IT
• Should be able to use all programmes on the
computer effectively and have a full understanding to
solve problems.
• Accountable for the team’s development and training,
in line with the company’s business objectives, and
for the performance management and appraisals in
line with the company’s policy and best practice.
• A sound education at degree level or equivalent,
together with exemplary leadership and
communication skills and the ability to deliver
complex concurrent multiple projects is essential.

Head Of IT, involves specific and general skills. e.g. operational parameters, processes, projects, development and IT Support. leadership and communication skills (manage projects effectively)
