ECU’s Extract Transform and Load (ETL) Framework consists of two paths for loading external data into the Operational Data Store (ODS): Non-Oracle Data Sources (Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access databases, web services) and Oracle data sources. The paths are controlled by the external system and the mechanism to connect and extract the data. When the external system does not allow for an Oracle to Oracle connection, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is used as the foundation for the Non-Oracle data source path. When the external systems allows for an Oracle to Oracle connection the Oracle Data Source path is selected.
In this session we will present several major projects showcasing how ECU leverages Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Oracle Streams, and the Ellucian/Banner ODS ETL process to load various types of external data into the Ellucian/Banner Operational Data Store (ODS).

The students in P3 at the Pilar Mestres school had their first chestnut party of the year. A chestnut vendor came to visit them in the playground. The children then watched a demonstration of how chestnuts are roasted over an open fire. After that, the students enjoyed eating chestnuts, bread rolls, and juice before ending their celebration with dancing, including performing the song of the squirrel. Photos from the event can be found on the school's education blog.

BreadVille is a mobile app created by Team 23379 that allows users to bake virtual loaves of bread which are then "sent" to countries in need. Users buy ingredients like flour, water, and yeast using in-game coins to bake bread. Coins are earned by inviting friends, receiving gifts from friends, or allowing friends to send coins. Every 500 coins allows a loaf of bread to be sent abroad, and inviting 10 friends sends 10 loaves. The app partners with NGOs and lets users choose where to send bread or exchange it for monetary donations. An interactive map shows where help is being sent.

Silicon valley mizio technology scouting alumni mip february 2011Stefano Mizio
This document provides a glimpse into Silicon Valley through the observations and experiences of Stefano Mizio during a visit. It discusses the need to gain different perspectives outside one's own company. Myths about venture capital backing and job growth are debunked. The informal and formal ways people network and gather information through technical meetings, business meetings, and visionary events are described. The document also outlines Mizio's scouting process to identify innovative technologies and trends, including through assessments. Comparisons are drawn to attitudes in Italy. In the end, inspiration is found in pursuing change and moving forward.
Developing a software project is definitely not like building a house. If you focus on the learning aspects instead of the simple building you'll probably discover something interesting and unexpected.
This document discusses three stories of the mobile future. The first story talks about moving from the mechanical age of speed to the digital age of real-time. The second story discusses the need for cross-pollination between different mobile tribes and making events more participative and online. The third story talks about how mobiles are changeable and a reflection of ourselves and the idea of an embodied avatar interacting in a virtual metaverse.
The editorial discusses how Steve Jobs launched the highly anticipated iPad 2, ensuring huge interest and demand even before its release. It notes that while Apple didn't invent tablets, the iPad became synonymous with them through Jobs' focus on innovation and disruption. By carefully understanding user needs and crafting solutions, Apple dominated the tablet market, showing that disruption, not just innovation, is key to success in today's competitive environment. The editorial encourages leaders to study customers, competition, and technology to design products ahead of their time.
Jason Kunesh gave a talk at the 2008 IDEA Conference about design context clues and how context informs both physical and digital experiences. He discussed how context shapes our design practice and culture. Kunesh also talked about his career journey working on projects for various clients and how he sees information architects and designers as "bricoleurs" who put existing things together in new ways to address problems. He emphasized balancing innovation and potential in design with establishing common languages that are intuitive and learnable.

Connected objects have the potential to automatically generate stories by collecting user data over time. As more everyday objects become connected and collect information about user behaviors and environments, they can visualize trends and patterns in the data to tell stories without direct human input. The stories generated could become more powerful and influential by combining both automated contributions from connected devices with human habits and inputs. As more brands adopt connected devices and media strategies, they may compete for attention by generating automated and personalized stories and experiences from user data.

This document provides an orientation for second year design students at IIT Gandhinagar. It discusses establishing a department culture, making the most of available resources, addressing preconceptions about design, and the differences, benefits, and nature of design. It encourages students to explore diverse areas, document their work, collaborate with their batchmates, gain experience through side projects, and connect with those outside their department to continue improving as designers. The overall message is that design is an iterative, thought-driven process requiring hard work and experimentation to reach world standards.

The document discusses the concept of commoditization in IT and trends toward utility computing and software as a service. Commoditization refers to when novel technologies become standardized and ubiquitous over time, shifting from a competitive advantage to a basic cost of doing business. The document uses examples like electricity in the 1890s and web design in the 1990s to illustrate this transition. It argues that operating environments, databases, servers, and other IT infrastructure are becoming commoditized, and companies should focus on their applications and pay for computing resources on a utility basis through cloud providers like Amazon EC2 or the author's company Zimki. This allows companies to avoid unnecessary costs and waste while focusing on their core services.
A little bit autobiographic deck, that tells how the Design -pushed by technology acceleration- in evolving faster we might expect, becoming more human-centric than ever.
“Design isn't just about shapes or pixels anymore.
Design is the process that shapes product behaviors, communiRes, companies and builds new worlds.”
"We are the consequence of the technologies we use."
Infuse HUMANITY into everything (or everything will evolve without it)
