Today What is Generation One? Why now? Why me? What is our objective? Roadmap to success Join us
Generation One... on a page A movement , not a campaign In partnership with the indigenous community To tackle the disparity holistically : i.e. Jobs , training and education ... Together Grassroots - led and driven We need one thing: Action
Our spokespeople Jack Manning-Bancroft Tania Major
Generation One = POST- PARTISAN POST- “BLACK & WHITE” POST- BUREAUCRATIC EVERY AUSTRALIAN
Why now? Wanting to see an end to indigenous poverty Being prepared to change, and demand change Helping fellow Australians Demanding practical action, not just more $$$ The belief that WE must act and not just leave it to Government After the Apology, Australians are united as never before, around:
Why ? Because indigenous people are three times more likely to be unemployed... And more than eight out of ten jobless indigenous people are unable to work, because of illiteracy, alcohol or other psychological problems.
Why am I involved? I grew up with Aboriginal people My first boarding school was an Aboriginal hostel Most of my Aboriginal friends have died – early They were more talented than me and could have had our lives if the had our opportunities The more you know Aboriginal people, the more you love Aboriginal people
Campaign Objectives To raise awareness of the issues and the facts surrounding Indigenous inequality To motivate Australians to participate To enable them to take action in: JOBS Encouraging all levels of Government to provide EDUCATION TRAINING as directed by employers. In other words, “Market Directed Training” To campaign for the policies that will bring about lasting change
Tools for Success...
