HIV greatly increases the risk of developing active TB disease, and the two diseases form a lethal combination that accelerates the other's progression. In 2016, 320,000 people in Africa died from HIV-associated TB. WHO recommends a 12 part approach including prevention and treatment actions to reduce deaths from the deadly combination of HIV and TB.

more likely to develop active TB disease than people without HIV.
