Ring gears are fitted onto vehicle flywheels and have teeth that interact with the starter motor. Parveen Kumar completed a summer internship at Lotus Auto Engg. Ltd. in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan from May 20 to July 5, 2016. The internship focused on studying the production process of ring gears. Ring gears are fitted onto vehicle flywheels and have teeth that interact with the starter motor. Lotus Auto produces ring gears through a multi-step process that includes blanking coils of steel, machining, gear hobbing to cut teeth, chamfering edges, washing, and induction hardening to increase hardness of the teeth. The internship provided Parveen the opportunity to understand and analyze Lotus Auto's ring gear production line.
