This document discusses landslip prevention and mitigation works for two sites in Hong Kong - the Sham Tseng San Tsuen Site and the Hong Lok Yuen and Wu Uk sites. 3. Hazard Mitigation Works
 Provision of Flexible Barriers to protect against Open
Hillslope Landslides and Boulder Fall hazards
 Provision of Rigid Barriers and Baffles to protect against
Channelised Debris Flows hazards
 Localised in-situ stabilisation works (soil nails and
buttresses) for areas of Hillslope Distress and large surface
boulders
 Landscape Treatment to blend the mitigation works with
the surrounding environment

• Flexible barriers: shrub and seedling tree planting
at front (Photo 1)
• Soil nail areas: erosion control mat +
hydroseeding and seedling tree / shrub mix
planting (Photo 2)
• Rigid barriers: Painted antique brown with
climbers (Photos 4 & 5) + shrub and seedling tree
planting at front (Photo 3) + whip planting at the
back.
• Reinstate affect slope surface by broadcast
seeding. All exposed concrete surfaces and steel
furniture shall be painted antique brown.

6. Q&A
Q: Any plan to reduce visual impact of baffles
before natural vegetation takes over?
A: Experience is that natural vegetation takes
around two to three wet seasons to re-establish.
Measures including camouflage net / paint and
provision of pioneer plant cover such as Wedelia
trilobata (蟛蜞菊) were being examined as a
measure to reduce short term visual impact as
necessary.

8. Hong Lok Yuen Site and Wu Uk Site
Hong Lok Yuen Site
• Hazards: CDF and OHL
• Scope: 1065 nos. of soil nails, 2 rigid barriers and 120m of flexible barriers
• Site Constraint - Difficult access and a general lack of works area. The Site is above
private man-made features of approx. 50m height, and in close proximity to a quite
residential neighbourhood. Site operation was restricted by rules imposed by the Hong
Lok Yuen Management Office (HLYMO):
• Not to carry out grouting on the Saturdays;
• No noisy works before 9:00 AM, afternoon of Saturday and all public holiday; and
• Call the HLYMO to report the leaving of all workers and return all permits at the
end of each working day (18:00 as requested by the HLYMO)
• Prolonged liaison with HLYMO for works areas and the construction time for the
protective works in early stages of the site works..
Wu Uk Site
• Hazard: OHL and BF
• Scope: 479 nos. of soil
nails and buttress
