GC4 Product Explanation (In The Heights)
1. GC4: Product Explanation
The product I had to build for “In The Heights” was a flat for the set. Because we didn’t have
enough flats backstage we had to build the flats from scratch.
1. Firstly, we had to build a wooden frame for the flat
so it was structurally sound.
2. Then, we had to cut a piece of chipboard, using a
jigsaw, to cover the frame and make a flat surface. We
chose chipboard because it was cheap so it would reduce
costs.
3. We then screwed in the piece of chipboard. But we
used as little screws as possible. This also reduced cost.
4. We then painted the plat so it fitted with the
context of the play.
5. Before we put the flat up onto the scaffolding we
attached an “A frame”. This would keep the flat upright
and stop it from falling over.
