The main goal of las2peer is to provide a fast and flexible way to create services which may communicate with each other and their users through standard protocols. The used and stored information is handled in a trustworthy way and within full control of the communities.

This is quite challenging to be facilitated with learning technologies as such training requires an individualized approach and a right balance between the learner’s freedom and guidance. The lecture introduces a brief theoretical background from various perspectives. Then technological solutions are proposed and case studies presented. Finally evaluation challenges will be discussed.

Studies have shown that applying Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) and related meta-cognitive learning strategies is an efficient way how to increase the learning progress. However, this is quite challenging to be facilitated with learning technologies as such training requires an individualized approach and a right balance between the learner’s freedom and guidance. Personalisation and adaptive technologies have a high potential to support SRL and have been applied in Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) that can enable customization and guidance of various strength and at various levels. We present an approach and framework that integrates guidance and reflection support for SRL in PLEs. The ROLE project has elaborated an operational SRL model and implemented a system accordingly. Concrete examples following this design have been created and evaluated in various settings, involving both students and teachers. In the BOOST project we aim to elaborate this approach in order to support competence development and informal training in small companies.

A standard recommendation for Digital Pathology Information Web-Services. UZH, the University of Zurich is the largest university in Switzerland and among the top 100 universities world-wide. In this presentation you will see which important role the Requirements Engineering Research Group (RERG) oh UZH has in the SUPERSEDE project.
Augmented Reality (AR) is on the way to establishing itself in business and teaching once more. However, there is a lack of uniform guidelines or even standards both in the creation of teaching materials and in the use of AR in teaching. In addition, the industry needs enough well-trained specialists who can implement the established AR concepts, making a transfer from university to industry necessary. Therefore, in this talk we address both challenges in teaching with AR and the special needs of teaching about AR.
As teaching with AR will surely advance human performance and also brings in new perspectives with the communication, coordination and collaboration of AR in supporting human performance. As computer scientists, we have a European, interdisciplinary and application-oriented perspective, as our experience comes from several funded European projects in these areas. We also incorporate new incentives into teaching contexts in our framework, such as gamification, learning analytics and experience capturing. In addition, we refer to international standardization efforts such as IEEE ARLEM.
Teaching about AR adopts a multi-perspective view. First, there is scientific and technological basic knowledge helping to understand the underlying physical and technical principles. Second, there is engineering and design knowledge to master the creation, fabrication, and utilization of AR in many ways. Third, there is the necessary pedagogical knowledge to transform these complex settings in manageable teaching scenarios and processes, e.g. for higher education curricula.
Here, teaching AR can learn from traditions of science and engineering education as well as from more recent knowledge about computer science education. Examples from recent and on-going European projects will illustrate the argumentation.

The Exploitation of OpenAPI Documents for the Generation of Web FrontendsIstvanKoren
TheWebConf 2018 Developer Track Presentation. New Internet-enabled devices and Web services are introduced on a daily basis. Documentation formats are available that describe their functionalities in terms of API endpoints and parameters. In particular, the OpenAPI specification has gained considerable influence over the last years. Web-based solutions exist that generate interactive OpenAPI documentation with HTML5 & JavaScript. They allow developers to quickly get an understanding what the services and devices do and how they work. However, the generated user interfaces are far from real-world practices of designers and end users. We present an approach to overcome this gap, by using a model-driven methodology resulting in state-of-the-art responsive Web user interfaces. To this end, we use the Interaction Flow Modeling Language (IFML) as intermediary model specification to bring together APIs and frontends. Learning at the workplace is to a large extent informal. Trainees often need consultations with more experienced colleagues who can answer their questions or demonstrate certain practice. This process is usually very time consuming for the more knowledgeable ones, who often need to repeat their explanations for various trainees. There is a high potential to make this process more efficient by means of technology, especially by using the power of multimedia. We present a vision and work in progress for enhancing informal learning at the workplace by using video annotation and video adaptation techniques. This is part of the research and development in the Learning Layers project.

Since the loophole-free Bell experiments of 2020 and the Nobel prizes in physics of 2022, critics of Bell's work have retreated to the fortress of super-determinism. Now, super-determinism is a derogatory word - it just means "determinism". Palmer, Hance and Hossenfelder argue that quantum mechanics and determinism are not incompatible, using a sophisticated mathematical construction based on a subtle thinning of allowed states and measurements in quantum mechanics, such that what is left appears to make Bell's argument fail, without altering the empirical predictions of quantum mechanics. I think however that it is a smoke screen, and the slogan "lost in math" comes to my mind. I will discuss some other recent disproofs of Bell's theorem using the language of causality based on causal graphs. Causal thinking is also central to law and justice. I will mention surprising connections to my work on serial killer nurse cases, in particular the Dutch case of Lucia de Berk and the current UK case of Lucy Letby.

Nucleophilic addition is the most important reaction of carbonyls. Not just aldehydes and ketones, but also carboxylic acid derivatives in general.
Carbonyls undergo addition reactions with a large range of nucleophiles.
Comparing the relative basicity of the nucleophile and the product is extremely helpful in determining how reversible the addition reaction is. Reactions with Grignards and hydrides are irreversible. Reactions with weak bases like halides and carboxylates generally don’t happen.
Electronic effects (inductive effects, electron donation) have a large impact on reactivity.
Large groups adjacent to the carbonyl will slow the rate of reaction.
Neutral nucleophiles can also add to carbonyls, although their additions are generally slower and more reversible. Acid catalysis is sometimes employed to increase the rate of addition.

The ability to recreate computational results with minimal effort and actionable metrics provides a solid foundation for scientific research and software development. When people can replicate an analysis at the touch of a button using open-source software, open data, and methods to assess and compare proposals, it significantly eases verification of results, engagement with a diverse range of contributors, and progress. However, we have yet to fully achieve this; there are still many sociotechnical frictions.
Inspired by David Donoho's vision, this talk aims to revisit the three crucial pillars of frictionless reproducibility (data sharing, code sharing, and competitive challenges) with the perspective of deep software variability.
Our observation is that multiple layers — hardware, operating systems, third-party libraries, software versions, input data, compile-time options, and parameters — are subject to variability that exacerbates frictions but is also essential for achieving robust, generalizable results and fostering innovation. I will first review the literature, providing evidence of how the complex variability interactions across these layers affect qualitative and quantitative software properties, thereby complicating the reproduction and replication of scientific studies in various fields.
I will then present some software engineering and AI techniques that can support the strategic exploration of variability spaces. These include the use of abstractions and models (e.g., feature models), sampling strategies (e.g., uniform, random), cost-effective measurements (e.g., incremental build of software configurations), and dimensionality reduction methods (e.g., transfer learning, feature selection, software debloating).
I will finally argue that deep variability is both the problem and solution of frictionless reproducibility, calling the software science community to develop new methods and tools to manage variability and foster reproducibility in software systems.

Although Artemia has been known to man for centuries, its use as a food for the culture of larval organisms apparently began only in the 1930s, when several investigators found that it made an excellent food for newly hatched fish larvae (Litvinenko et al., 2023). The fact that Artemia dormant cysts can be stored for long periods in cans, and then used as an off-the-shelf food requiring only 24 h of incubation makes them the most convenient, least labor-intensive, live food available for aquaculture (Sorgeloos & Roubach, 2021). The nutritional value of Artemia, especially for marine organisms, is not constant, but varies both geographically and temporally. During the last decade, however, both the causes of Artemia nutritional variability and methods to improve poorquality Artemia have been identified (Loufi et al., 2024).
Brine shrimp (Artemia spp.) are used in marine aquaculture worldwide. Annually, more than 2,000 metric tons of dry cysts are used for cultivation of fish, crustacean, and shellfish larva. Brine shrimp are important to aquaculture because newly hatched brine shrimp nauplii (larvae) provide a food source for many fish fry (Mozanzadeh et al., 2021). Culture and harvesting of brine shrimp eggs represents another aspect of the aquaculture industry. Nauplii and metanauplii of Artemia, commonly known as brine shrimp, play a crucial role in aquaculture due to their nutritional value and suitability as live feed for many aquatic species, particularly in larval stages (Sorgeloos & Roubach, 2021).
