Paul wrote the letter of Galatians to churches in Galatia to address false teachings that believers must follow Jewish laws and traditions in addition to faith in Christ. The letter emphasizes:
1) Paul's authority comes from God, not men, and he preached the true gospel of grace through faith alone.
2) Following Jewish laws cannot justify or complete salvation - faith in Christ is sufficient.
3) All believers, both Jews and Gentiles, are made righteous through faith and not works, as foretold in Scripture.
4) The Galatians are falling prey to those who want to add requirements of the law to faith in Christ, risking losing their freedom and standing as sons of

This is a study of Jesus as a priest in a special order that is explained by several authors. It makes it so great that our priest never has a time to retire but goes on forever on our behalf.
In this talk we move past the grand opening of Hebrews into the guts of the argument; how Jesus is superior to the entire religious system of the law but not only that - how he has totally eclipsed the religious system of law and Moses with the 'system of the resurrection'. All of these grand themes are crystallised in the strange governing theme of 'Melchizedek'. We unpack all of that in this talk - and we also confront the scariest passage in the NT along the way! May this bless you and help transform your minds.

Putting Acts 15 and Galatians 1-2 in ContextSteve Thomason
What do Acts 15 and the first two chapters of Galatians have in common? They both talk about the first big debate over ethnic identity in the church. Some of the early Christians said you had to be circumcised and assimilate into the Jewish culture in order to be a true disciple of Jesus. They debated the topic in Acts 15 in Jerusalem. The Apostle Paul was very opposed to this teaching. That's what he's talking about in his letter to the Galatians.
This PowerPoint will walk through the backstory of Paul's life in Acts in order to understand the context for Acts 15 and the letter to the Galatians. You can download this PowerPoint and image pack and use it for your own preaching and teaching. Use one slide, a few slides, or all of them. Whatever works for you.

February is National Heart Awareness Month. It is meant to cause the nation to take note of the seriousness of heart disease and to be reminded about those things that promote heart health. It is wise in a spiritual sense to take time and do the same relative to our spiritual hearts. This is what this study is designed to do.
This “Alone Time with God” presentation is intended to emphasize the importance of having a personal time alone with God every day connecting with His Word. Let God speak to you from His Word in this presentation and the ones to follow in the series.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Introduction
A. Galatians was probably written sometime in
48 A. D. before the Jerusalem Council of the
same year and after Paul’s first missionary
journey.
B. The Churches addressed would have
probably included Perga, Pisidian Antioch,
Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe in the region
now known as Turkey.
C. The critical issue was a return to certain
aspects of the Law to be required along with
acceptance of Christ. 2
3. D. Paul’s letter shows…
1. Paul’s defense of his own apostolic
authority
2. The complete sufficiency of faith in Christ
plus nothing else
3. The superiority of grace over the law
4. The danger of falling from grace back into
the law
5. How being led by the Spirit gives freedom
that the law cannot offer
3
4. The Salutation, 1:1-5
Galatians 1:1-5 (NIV2011) Paul, an apostle—
sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus
Christ and God the Father, who raised him
from the dead— 2 and all the brothers and
sisters with me, To the churches in Galatia: 3
Grace and peace to you from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself
for our sins to rescue us from the present evil
age, according to the will of our God and
Father, 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever.
Amen.

age, according to the will of our God and
Father, 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever.
Amen.
5. The salutation…
A. Identifies the Author: Paul
B. Asserts the Author’s Authority: an apostle by
the choice of Jesus Christ and the Father
C. Addresses the Recipients: to the churches
in Galatia
D. Expresses a Wish for Grace and Peace in
his salutation
5
6. Part 1
Slavery to the Law Is Not an
Option for Salvation
Galatians 1:1-5:12
6
7. I. The First Point of Concern:
That the Galatians Were Turning to a
Different Gospel, 1:6-9
A. Paul Is Astonished by the Desertion, 1:6.
Galatians 1:6 (NIV2011) I am astonished that
you are so quickly deserting the one who
called you to live in the grace of Christ and
are turning to a different gospel—
7
8. B. Paul Sees the Desertion As a Result of a
Deliberate Attempt to Pervert the Gospel,
1:7.
Galatians 1:7 (NIV2011) which is really no
gospel at all. Evidently some people are
throwing you into confusion and are trying to
pervert the gospel of Christ.
8
9. C. Paul, or Other Apostles, Are to be
Considered Under God’s Curse if They
Should Preach a Different Gospel, 1:8-9.
Galatians 1:8-9 (NIV2011) But even if we or an
angel from heaven should preach a gospel
other than the one we preached to you, let
them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have
already said, so now I say again: If anybody is
preaching to you a gospel other than what you
accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
9
10. II. The Second Point of Concern:
That the Galatians Should Understand
the Nature and Source of Paul’s
Commission, 1:10-24
A. His Ministry Is Not Motivated by the Need
for Human Approval, but God’s, 1:10.
Galatians 1:10 (NIV2011) Am I now trying to
win the approval of human beings, or of God?
Or am I trying to please people? If I were still
trying to please people, I would not be a
servant of Christ.
10
11. B. His Gospel Is Not the Product of Human
Imaginings and Invention, but by Revelation
Direct from Christ, 1:11-24.
Galatians 1:15-16 (NIV2011) But when God,
who set me apart from my mother’s womb and
called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to
reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him
among the Gentiles, my immediate response
was not to consult any human being.
11
12. III. The Third Point of Paul’s Concern:
That the Galatians Know There Is Only
One Gospel, for All, 2:1-21
A. The Concern Grew out of Opposition from
Those Who Wanted to Attach the Law to the
Gospel, 2:1-5.
Gal 2:4 (NIV 2011) This matter arose because
some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to
spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus
and to make us slaves. 5 We did not give in to
them for a moment, so that the truth of the
gospel might be preserved for you. 12
13. B. Peter ‘s Fear of the Jewish Faction Became
Evident, 2:6-13.
Galatians 2:11-12 (NIV2011) When Cephas
came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face,
because he stood condemned. 12 For before
certain men came from James, he used to eat
with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he
began to draw back and separate himself from
the Gentiles because he was afraid of those
who belonged to the circumcision group.
13
14. C. Peter Was Reprimanded by Paul for his
Hypocritical Behavior, 2:14-21.
Galatians 2:14 (NIV2011) When I saw that
they were not acting in line with the truth of the
gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all,
“You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and
not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force
Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
14
15. IV. The Fourth Point of Paul’s Concern:
That the Galatians Have Failed to See
that Faith in Christ Must Replace
Works of the Law, 3:1-14
A. It Is Foolish To Believe that Salvation
Which Began with Faith Would Rely on
the Works of Law to Complete It, 3:1-6.
15
16. Galatians 3:2-3 (NIV2011) I would like to learn
just one thing from you: Did you receive the
Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing
what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After
beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now
trying to finish by means of the flesh?
16
17. B. It Was Always God’s Plan that the
Redemption of the World Would be by Faith
in the Gospel of God’s Grace, 3:7-9.
Galatians 3:7-9 (NIV2011) Understand, then,
that those who have faith are children of
Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would
justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the
gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will
be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely
on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the
man of faith.
17
18. C. It Is Erroneous to Think that the Law Can
Justify One’s Standing with God, 3:10-14.
Galatians 3:10-11 (NIV2011) For all who rely
on the works of the law are under a curse, as it
is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not
continue to do everything written in the Book of
the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the
law is justified before God, because “the
righteous will live by faith.”
18
19. V. The Fifth Point of Paul’s Concern:
That the Galatians Understand the
Original Intent of the Law, 3:15-25
A. The Future Blessing of God to the World
Was Based on the Promise of God Not the
Works of the Law, 3:15-18.
19
20. Galatians 3:18-19 (NIV2011) For if the
inheritance depends on the law, then it no
longer depends on the promise; but God in his
grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
19 Why, then, was the law given at all? It was
added because of transgressions until the
Seed to whom the promise referred had come.
The law was given through angels and
entrusted to a mediator.
20
21. B. The Purpose of the Law’s Existence Needs
to be Explained, 3:19
Galatians 3:23-25 (NIV2011) Before the
coming of this faith, we were held in custody
under the law, locked up until the faith that was
to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was
our guardian until Christ came that we might be
justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has
come, we are no longer under a guardian.
21
22. VI. The Sixth Point of Paul’s Concern:
That the Galatians Understand Their
New Position as Heirs of God Grace,
4:1-5:12.
A. Understand that the Law Was to Be a
Temporal Guardian, 4:1-7
Galatians 4:4-5 (NIV2011) But when the set
time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of
a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem
those under the law, that we might receive
adoption to sonship.
22
23. B. Understand that to Turn Back to the Law Is
Not Reasonable, 4:8-11
Galatians 4:8-9 (NIV2011) Formerly, when
you did not know God, you were slaves to
those who by nature are not gods. 9 But now
that you know God—or rather are known by
God—how is it that you are turning back to
those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish
to be enslaved by them all over again?
23
24. C. Understand the Need To Be Discerning
Over Those Who Share the Gospel and
Their True Motives, 4:12-20.
Galatians 4:17-18 (NIV2011) Those people
are zealous to win you over, but for no good.
What they want is to alienate you from us, so
that you may have zeal for them. 18 It is fine to
be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and
to be so always, not just when I am with you.
24
25. D. Understand the Difference Between Those
Who Are Slaves to the Law (Slaves) and
Those Who Sons of the Promise, 4:20-31.
Galatians 4:31 (NIV2011) Therefore, brothers
and sisters, we are not children of the slave
woman [the Law], but of the free woman
[Grace].
25
26. E. Understand God’s Purpose in Setting Them
Free from the Law, 5:1-6.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV2011) It is for freedom that
Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do
not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke
of slavery.
26
27. F. Understand that Those Seeking to Draw
Them Back to Dependence upon the Law
Are Not from God, 5:7-12
Galatians 5:7-10 (NIV2011) You were running
a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you
from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of
persuasion does not come from the one who
calls you…10 I am confident in the Lord that
you will take no other view. The one who is
throwing you into confusion, whoever that may
be, will have to pay the penalty.
27
