ORDER OF THE NATIONAL
ARTISTS
•Filipino artists made a mark for the
development of Filipino society. Many of
them have made significant contributions
in their own fields, earning them the Order
of National Artists.

ARTISTS
•The Order of National Artist (ONA) [Orden
ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining] is the
highest national recognition given to
Filipino individuals who have made
significant contributions to the
development of Philippine arts.

ARTISTS
•It has been established by
virtue of Presidential
Proclamation No. 1001 s.
1972.

ARTISTS
•It aims “to give appropriate
recognition and prestige to Filipinos
who have distinguished themselves
and made outstanding contributions
to Philippine arts and letters.”

CRITERIA ON RECEIVING THE
AWARD (ONA)
a. Living artists who are Filipino citizens
at the time of nomination and at the
awarding, as well as those who died
after the establishment of the award in
1972 but were Filipino citizens at the
time of their death.
