Taxol is an anti-cancer drug that exists as two enantiomers. Chiral auxiliaries, which are optically active compounds, can be used to temporarily incorporate into organic synthesis reactions to selectively form the desired enantiomer of Taxol. Chiral auxiliaries introduce chirality into racemic compounds to control whether the left- or right-handed enantiomer is produced.
