Creating Smarter Cities 2011 - 03 - Joe Dignan - Microsoft - Connected govern...Smart Cities Project
Cities are the world’s economic engines and we are in the grips of a second great migration to the city. The analyst community has highlighted that the critical enabling mechanism to ameliorate these challenges is a gestalt ICT framework. Microsoft is a partner for a majority of the world’s cities and is taking up the challenge to define a global ICT framework for cities as part of their connected government framework.
The future digital city as well as the digital government must be ‘human-centric’ to serve its 3 kinds of stakeholders: its citizens, its businesses actors and its visitors. A city is not smart because it hosts new technologies. A city is smart when most of the citizen are really enjoying the use of top of mind services and systems provided by the municipality. Thus, leaders of future cities must demonstrate a real mindset and leadership in designing their cities with systems and services that their digital citizens will seize. It means a new governance must be established in order to link the needs of the citizens with the smart solutions to be implemented to fulfil those needs, in order to bridge the functionalities and data that are currently segregated by silos in the city (Transportation, Electricity and water distribution, Buildings, Mobility, Waste management, Retail, Public safety, Health, Education, Culture…) and at the end of the day in order the city to become a collaborative environment. The city has to be thought and designed as a complex system of systems and not as a simple juxtaposition of administrative services and data to be provided to its stakeholders.

Smart city platform for 21st century service deliveryTristan Wiggill
A presentation by Jaco Cromhout (Head: Specialised Solution Sales) at the Transport Forum SIG 2 June 2016 hosted by George Municipality. The theme for the event was: "Smart City" and the topic of the presentation was: "Smart City Platform for 21st Century Service Delivery"
IoT can be complex and confusing with many definitions often perceived by enterprises. But it's not a futuristic trend because it's already happening and we can start small with existing 'things'.
The Internet of Things powers a new era of innovation that opens new opportunities to re-imagine the future of our city, so city leaders can more proactively address city priorities such as reducing energy consumption, improving public safety, and nurturing innovation and growth.

Data Con LA 2020
Description
The power of data increases exponentially when communities form and use consolidated data structures for a common purpose. Collaborative data structures are built linking independent data structures together in a way where each contributor retains control over their data contribution to create a data driven infrastructure. I3 Systems is building a set of tools and support services needed to support collaborative data projects. This session will overview how the next level of data infrastructure will allow new insights to be derived from independent data sources.
*Learn how collaborative data infrastructures must be managed as a network of data structures
*Learn about the importance of data governance, security, and privacy in collaborative environments
*Lean how data collaborative structures can facilitate smart-cities and smart-health care environments
*Learn about how service and support are critical enabling aspects that compliment technical offerings
*Hear about real-world experiences and lessons learned bring collaborative networks to life
Speakers
Jerry Power, I3 Systems, CEO
Ryan Kurtzman, City of Long Beach, Program Manager
Broadband infrastructures leverage a multiplicity of technology solutions in terms both of transport and of access. Technology choices definitely influence the strategic direction of broadband government programs, but this book focuses on strategic and organizational issues and does not discuss technology solutions, architectures and trends.

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

SOCRadar Research Team: Latest Activities of IntelBrokerSOCRadar
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) has suffered an alleged data breach after a notorious threat actor claimed to have exfiltrated data from its systems. Infamous data leaker IntelBroker posted on the even more infamous BreachForums hacking forum, saying that Europol suffered a data breach this month.
The alleged breach affected Europol agencies CCSE, EC3, Europol Platform for Experts, Law Enforcement Forum, and SIRIUS. Infiltration of these entities can disrupt ongoing investigations and compromise sensitive intelligence shared among international law enforcement agencies.
However, this is neither the first nor the last activity of IntekBroker. We have compiled for you what happened in the last few days. To track such hacker activities on dark web sources like hacker forums, private Telegram channels, and other hidden platforms where cyber threats often originate, you can check SOCRadar’s Dark Web News.

Exploring Innovations in Data Repository Solutions - Insights from the U.S. G...Globus
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has made substantial investments in meeting evolving scientific, technical, and policy driven demands on storing, managing, and delivering data. As these demands continue to grow in complexity and scale, the USGS must continue to explore innovative solutions to improve its management, curation, sharing, delivering, and preservation approaches for large-scale research data. Supporting these needs, the USGS has partnered with the University of Chicago-Globus to research and develop advanced repository components and workflows leveraging its current investment in Globus. The primary outcome of this partnership includes the development of a prototype enterprise repository, driven by USGS Data Release requirements, through exploration and implementation of the entire suite of the Globus platform offerings, including Globus Flow, Globus Auth, Globus Transfer, and Globus Search. This presentation will provide insights into this research partnership, introduce the unique requirements and challenges being addressed and provide relevant project progress.

The City of Longview’s CitySend App is an online and mobile service request system. CitySend allows Longview residents to identify issues and report those service requests directly to the City of Longview. Residents can upload a photo or video of the concern and mark the geographic location on a map. Each request is provided a unique tracking number so the user is able to see when action is taken. In addition to the submitting and tracking service requests, CitySend also has a news feature that provides an RSS feed of City of Longview news and public notices. A smartphone is not required in order to use CitySend, since service requests can also be made online using CitySend at LongviewTexas.gov.The next time you see a pothole or any other concern, just CitySend it. For more information, go to LongviewTexas.gov/CitySend.
Mobile decreases expensive inbound calls
Photos and location improve data which decreases resolution cost (fewer truck rolls)
Two way communication reduces confusion, gives Longview a voice.
