State Zero: Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation
MTEMC recently completed a major project to merge multiple geodatabases into a single new GDB, apply data model changes along with corresponding data migration, and to implement voltage levels with feeder manager 2.0 to provide connectivity upstream of a circuit breaker. Several of these changes required the geodatabase to be at state 0 (no versions). MTEMC utilized SSP Innovations’ All Edits State 0 technology to successfully complete this project while maintaining their 1700+ design versions.

Thames Water has been using geographic information system (GIS) solutions from Esri for over six years and ArcGIS Platform now supports almost every part of the organisation. When customers contact Thames Water, call centre agents can locate the caller, identify assets in relation to that customer address and easily see what maintenance or infrastructure projects have occurred or are planned for that area. In addition, Thames Water uses the ArcGIS platform to exchange accurate asset and location information with its mobile engineers, surveyors and field workers. ArcGIS has become an indispensable enterprise system for Thames Water and will continue to play a vital role in the business, as it steadfastly evolves to meet the needs of customers and regulators.

Scan-to-BIM english
Laser scanning is a technique that can quickly and accurately capture existing structures and objects with a high level of detail. It works by sending out laser beams and measuring the distance, horizontal and vertical angles of reflected beams to calculate XYZ coordinates of up to 1 million points per second. Multiple scans may be required to fully capture the object or structure, and they are then registered into a single point cloud. This scan data can be used to build a Building Information Model (BIM) in Autodesk Revit, with the scan-to-BIM process involving scanning the site, cleaning up the point cloud data, and constructing a model from the point cloud.

The new system provides real-time reporting and analysis across platforms while minimizing human resource needs. Switch Automation saw successful results including improved property ROI analysis and automated, cross-platform energy management.

Energy efficiency is a key driver for many upgrades in legacy Data Centers. Improvements in fan technology have meant that upgrading the fans in an old Data Center air conditioner can yield massive savings, many times that of the cost of the work. However, what is often forgotten is that, because fans are the devices that actually distribute cooling throughout the Data Center, changing their behavior will change the behavior of the Data Center itself. Changes to cooling distribution throughout the Data Center will have a knock-on effect on deployment and capacity planning. The new cooling distribution provided by the new, energy efficient fans, must therefore be evaluated before the decision to proceed is made. The only way to do this is through simulation.
Thinking Outside the Box – Server Design for #DataCenter Optimization
The document discusses using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model servers and data centers. It describes creating a detailed CFD model of a server, simplifying it into a "simplified server model" (SSM), and using the SSM in CFD simulations of server racks and an entire data center. Improvements in fan technology have meant that upgrading the fans in an old Data Center air conditioner can yield massive savings, many times that of the cost of the work. However, what is often forgotten is that, because fans are the devices that actually distribute cooling throughout the Data Center, changing their behavior will change the behavior of the Data Center itself. Changes to cooling distribution throughout the Data Center will have a knock-on effect on deployment and capacity planning. The new cooling distribution provided by the new, energy efficient fans, must therefore be evaluated before the decision to proceed is made. The only way to do this is through simulation.

As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
