detailed design, construction, operation and maintenance, can
be simulated in the early stage of the project.

• The contemporaneous use of BIM and RPDA give benefits to the project
• Integration is easier with a common model that includes the necessary
information for all stakeholders during all project phases
• BIM is a technology that eases early involvement. The use of BIM and
RPDA both change the timing of design earlier in the project timeline.
• More added value to the client. Design quality gets better, construction is
more efficient and sustainable, and operations are smoother and defect
free.
• A practical implementation suggestion is to use collaboration models in
Big Rooms to help improve the communication between all stakeholders.
• Clients should require the contemporaneous use of RPDA and BIM more
often.

Design quality gets better, construction is more efficient and sustainable, and operations are smoother and defect free. • A practical implementation suggestion is to use collaboration models in Big Rooms to help improve the communication between all stakeholders. • Clients should require the contemporaneous use of RPDA and BIM more often.

Main reason to use BIM is time and cost savings Norwegian Road Administration has studied transportation project additional costs (CCO = Construction Change Order) 40% of extra costs are due to something beforehand unknown like unknown underground pipeline, unknown rock surface level, these issues cannot be avoided beforehand with BIM methods 40% of extra costs are due to errors or conflicts in designs, different disciplines overlap or other design specific issues, most of these issues can be avoided by using BIM 20% of extra costs are due to owner’s decision to change the solution, these issues can be also avoided by simulating alternatives so that solution doesn’t need to be changed later With BIM total of 5-15% savings can be achieved in construction
