This document summarizes several case studies of how the University of Jyväskylä has used Plone for various applications over 10+ years:
1. Plone Form Gen has been used to create over 800 public forms for tasks like applications, events, and ordering. It saves significant manual work.
2. Plomino was used to create complex, multi-step surveys with over 2,600 staff participating annually for work tracking.
3. Dexterity content types allowed non-technical editors to easily manage content for a student minor subjects portal.
4. Two journal review systems were developed with Plone - one took 2 weeks while the other, more complex with 150 requirements, took

Development teams rarely consist of just one developer. Contractors work externally and infrastructure can be split across multiple sites, developers have different skill-sets / remits / requirements and sometimes we collaborate with external parties. This can quickly turn into a “spiders web” of dependencies.
Here I address how to develop with Umbraco when working in a large / distributed team, looking at strategies that we can employ to provide for a productive development process.

Almost every programme that is being installed has some kind of interaction with end user. This gives at least the illusion of control over your system and of course it allows to have already preconfigured first time experience inside application. Some wizards give more options, some less, but it is nice to have it in the first place.
So, let's think about a Drupal user, that wants to install such a complex module like Metatags or Commerce. Although there are a lot of tutorials, documents and other help materials, there is always something that prevents end users from completing this "piece of cake" for developers task on his/her own. But all that he/she needs is only make it possible to add Metatags, let's say of OG type, to content type article.

Building Production Ready Search Pipelines with Spark and Milvus
Spark is the widely used ETL tool for processing, indexing and ingesting data to serving stack for search. Milvus is the production-ready open-source vector database. In this talk we will show how to use Spark to process unstructured data to extract vector representations, and push the vectors to Milvus vector database for search serving.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
