2. HISTORY OF FUEL
• Fuels are any materials that store potential energy in
forms that can be practicably released and used for
work or as heat energy.
• Coal was first used as a fuel in early centuries at china.
• Later coal was used to drive ships and source in UK.
• Now in 21st century coal is used to generate electricity
in the world.
3. FOSSIL FUEL – WILL IT BE GOOD CHOICE ?
• Fossil fuels were rapidly adopted during the industrial revolution,
Because they were more concentrated and flexible then traditional
energy sources such as a Water power.
• Fossil fuel are the major energy sources but still when over
consumption takes place lead to disastrous effects such as Air
pollution.
• Burning of fossil fuels releases some of gases like carbon dioxide,
Nitrogen Monoxide, nitrogen dioxide , sulphur dioxide, carbon
monoxide etc. that are responsible for Greenhouse effect and acid
rain.
4. • As usage of fossil fuel becomes increases relatively many
environmentally problem also increases like,
- Environmental Hazards
- Acid Rain
- Human Health Getting Affected
- Impact on aquatic life
As we have seen many serious problem with fossil fuel so we
have to go for renewable source as a energy source.
5. ALGAE AS A BIOFUEL
What is algae ?
- It is a group of simple, non flowering and typically aquatic plant of large
assemblage that includes the seaweeds and many single-celled forms.
- Algae is consider to be one of the most efficient organisms on Earth, because of
their rapid growth rate. It grows best in seawater, which comes virtually
unlimited supply.
What Is Biofuel ?
- Biofuel is energy source made from living things, or the waste that living
produce.
What is Algae Biofuel ?
- Algae Biofuel is an alternative to fossil fuel that uses algae as Its source of
natural deposits.
7. What is Open-Pond ?
- The most common method of growing algae is through open-
pond .
- Using open-ponds, algae can be grown in sunny areas of the
world . It one of the simplest of algae growing system.
What Is Photobioreactors ?
- An Alternative to open ponds are closed ponds where the
control over environment is much better than that for the
open ponds.
9. CHARACTERISTICS OF ALGAE FOR BIOFUEL
• Rapid growth rates.
• algae biofuel contains no sulphur that is good for
environment.
• algae biofuel is non-toxic .
• it can grow 20 to 30 times faster then food crops.
• algae biofuel is highly bio-degradable .
• Algae produces up to 300 times more oil per acre than
conventional food crops, such as palm, soybeans etc.
10. • Algae has a harvesting cycle of 1-10 days. So it allow a
several harvests in a very short time frame, a differing
strategy to yearly crops.
• Algae consume carbon dioxide as they grow, so they could be
used to capture CO2 from power stations and other
industrial plant that would otherwise go into the
atmosphere.
• It can be grow on land that is not suitable for other
established crops so no need for fertile land to grow algae.
11. ADVANTAGES OF BIOFUEL
Cost : Biofuels have the potential to be significantly less
expensive than gasoline and other fossil fuels.
Source material: Whereas oil is a limited resource that comes
from specific materials, biofuels can be manufactured from a
wide range of materials including crop waste, manure, and other
byproducts. This makes it an efficient step in recycling.
Renewability: It takes a very long time for fossil fuels to be
produced, but biofuels are much more easily renewable as new
crops are grown and waste material is collected.
12. Security: Biofuels can be produced locally, which decreases
the nation's dependence upon foreign energy.
Economic stimulation: Because biofuels are produced locally,
biofuel manufacturing plants can employ hundreds or
thousands of workers, creating new jobs in rural areas.
Lower carbon emissions: When biofuels are burned, they
produce significantly less carbon output and fewer toxins,
making them a safer alternative to preserve atmospheric
quality and lower air pollution.
13. DISADVANTAGES OF BIOFUEL
• High cost: To refine biofuels to more efficient energy outputs, and
to build the necessary manufacturing plants to increase biofuel
quantities, a high initial investment is often required.
• Food prices: As demand for food crops such as corn grows for
biofuel production, it could also raise prices for necessary staple
food crops.
• Water use: Massive quantities of water are required for proper
irrigation of biofuel crops as well as to manufacture the fuel, which
could strain local and regional water resources.
14. CONCLUSION
Production of biofuel from algae is green and clean
way to fulfil our requirement for fuel, as well it is also
required to keep our planet green and clean from
greenhouse and some of harmful gases which are
responsible for global worming as well environmental
pollution. So
“Algae Biofuel Is Future Of Fuel “.
