Domestic fruit production is forecast to decrease 20% this year due to frost and drought. Apples and grapes are the only fruits commercially grown in Russia, while other fruits are grown for household consumption. Russia is a net importer of fruits, being the second largest importer of apples and the largest importer of pears globally. Fruit supplies from former Soviet states make up 10% of Russia's total fruit imports. Forecasts predict overall fruit sales in Russia will increase between 2009-2014.
