The document analyzes the front covers of three music magazines: MixMag, NME, and Kerrang. For MixMag, it discusses the use of a flash box to attract readers and a photo of Carl Craig looking serious to portray him as dedicated to his music. For NME, it notes the use of photos in flash boxes requiring readers to open the magazine, and full name identification. For Kerrang, it describes the many flash boxes to continually engage readers and a "K" identifier for fans. Across magazines, headlines are designed to entice readers to learn more and buy the issue.
Here I have asked three people from my target audince to evaluate my magazine and pick out the good and not so good points. I used females and a male to give a fair view from both genders
These are my final flat plans for my POP music magazine. This powerpoint includes my flat plans for the cover page, chart page, contents page, and both pages of the double page spread.
These are my final decisions on the fonts I will use for my music magazine and the colour scheme I will use. There are also my final photos I will use in my magazine.

2. As you can see on the
magazine they have put
a flash box which is
used commonly in
magazine front covers
so that the reader will
read the flash box and
make them want to buy
the magazine even
more because they
want to read more
about the flash box.
3. As you can see in this
picture you have the
identifier in the top left
hand corner of the
magazine and the
reason why all magazine
do this because when
they are on the shelf and
have other magazines
on top of them covering
up the name, you can
identify the magazine in
this top left hand corner
of the magazine.
4. As you can see on the front cover
MixMag have used a mid-shot of
Caro Craig with his face looking very
serious. This is good because of the
way MixMag have shot from a low
angle which is giving Carl Craig a
sense of power over the reader. The
reason why his face is so serious is
because of the magazine it is a
specialist, magazine for people into
DJ so they do not want someone
who is just smiling it gives, it makes
the reader feel like Carl Craig is
serious about his music and does not
just take it as a joke or a way to make
money. The reason that Carl Craig is
holding a dog is because under Carl
Craig it says ‘Techno’s top dog’ and
this is the link to the reason Carl
Craig is holding a dog.
5. MixMag have put some of the
main headlines on the front cover
but made them sound very
interesting so that you want to
read more about the headline and
you want to buy the magazine for
example ‘THE GREAT DJ AGENCY
SCAM: The story all aspiring DJs
must read’ this headline is very
catchy because it will apple to all
the DJs that want to be famous or
want to be a DJ in their life. Mix
Mag have also put a discount with
their magazine this is good
because it means that all the
people who are already a good DJ
and want to get some more
samples so that means that it
apples to everyone .
7. As you can see NME have
used flash box but have
not put any writing in
them and have put
pictures in them which is
means that people will
have to pick up the
magazine to see
them, and also they are
more likely read the
head lines because they
are interested in the
writing and want to read
more so it will make it
more likely for the
reader to buy the
magazine to read more
on the headlines.
8. NME have used their whole
name as the identifier
which is good because it
means that the reader can
see the full name of the
magazine and it will stand
out a lot more on the shelf
and people are more likely
to just be able to pick up
the magazine and then buy
it because they will not get
bored of having to find the
magazine and just leave the
shop they can just pick it
out from a crowd of
magazines.
9. NME have used a close up shot
for their front cover which shows
us all of his facial expressions
and make it look like he is
looking right at you.
Layout
The layout of the front cover is
very good because it is very east
for the reader to find everything
they want to find on the
magazine and also it does not
looked to cramped and all mess
like a lot of magazine do for
example Kerrang. I would say
that this is a very good layout
because it shows that they have
put some thought into making
this front cover and not just
thrown it all together.
10. As you can see all around
the front cove they have
put their head lines which is
grabbing people into
wanting to read them, they
have also put a lot of
headlines in the left third
which means that people
can read them when they
are on the shelf and it will
make them want to read
more and also they have
put them on the left third
because it makes it more
appealing to the reader and
when the reader will read
first.
12. Kerrang have used a lot of
flash box this is because
they want it to look very
interesting and keep
grabbing the reading eye in
the way that every time the
reader looks at the front
cover they see something
they did not see before, this
is a good thing to do
because the reader is going
to keep looking at it and
more than likely find
something they want to
read more about it so they
will buy the music
magazine.
13. If you are a big fan of Kerrang
you will be able to see the
identifier every easily because
they use it in every episode of
their magazine which is the
‘K’ they do not need to add
anything else because people
who know the magazine will
know they identifier and not
have to look for anything.
Where as people who do not
know the magazine but want
to buy one will have to look
through all the magazines and
maybe get bored so they do
not even bother looking for
the magazine.
14. The main image is a close up which
shows use all of his facial expressions,
and he is got his finger on this mouth
which is giving us the idea that he
wants us to keep a secret because it is
a association which he have got from
being a child and being with out friend.
The main image also links with the
main headline which is ‘the secrets
behind 2013’s most wanted album’ so
then we put the to together and we
figure out that he must be involved in
the album.
Layout
The layout of this front cover is very
busy and you have a lot of things to
look at and you don’t get bored with
what on the front cover you will always
find something new which you did not
see before, but this does not work on
every magazine but it does on Kerrang.
15. There are not many headlines we
not as many as the other but the
ones on here are a lot more
prominent and you get grabbed
into them and want to read them
a lot more because you can see
them, but Kerrang do have deals
on the front for example ‘win
tickets’ this is likely to get a lot of
peoples attention and they will
buy the magazine to make sure
they try and win the tickets. They
also have in big words ‘Bring me
the horizon’ this will also get a lot
of people to buy the magazine
because people want to read
about bring me the horizon
because they like the band and
want to read the about them.
