•Fill out Request to See a Counselor form
•State the reason for your visit, ID number, and name.
•Please allow 24-48 hours for counselor to respond
•If it is an emergency, let someone in NGC know immediately

7 credits Electives (Associated with Endorsements)
90% Attendance Requirement
A student must attend class 90% of the time it is
offered in order to receive credit.
If the student fails to meet this requirement
he/she will be denied credit for the class(es) in
which 90% attendance was not met.
The student will need to retake the course(s) in
summer school or via credit recovery.

Semester I (August 2017 – December 2017) 77 days
Semester II (January 2018 – June 2018) 99 days
Absent > 8 days = credit denial with options to recover
Absent > 19 days = credit denial, required to attend summer school
Absent > 10 = credit denial with options to recover
Absent > 25 days = credit denial, required to attend summer school
Academic Recovery Options
1. After school tutoring
- Student is responsible for tracking & submitting hours owed
- Due: Semester I- December 22nd, 2017 & Semester II- June 7th, 2018
2. Saturday school (TBA)
3. Summer school (TBA)
4. Apply for attendance appeal (Extenuating circumstance)
- Attendance appeal committee will review your child’s circumstance
- Possible outcomes: hours cleared, reduce the number of hours owed or request denied

ATTENDANCE LETTERS- Semester I
Under both TEC 25.092 and DVISD FEC (LOCAL): Except as provided below, a student shall not be given credit for a
class unless the student is in attendance 90 percent of the days the class is offered. Therefore, students will not receive
credit for a class if they miss more than 8 days semester I.
In order to recover any potentially lost credits, students may complete Academic Tutoring (AST or ARC). Academic
tutoring may be completed before and after school. To track your academic tutoring hours, students can pick up a
academic tutoring log sheet in the NGC. In doing so, students will need to have their teachers sign off on their academic
tutoring log sheets and submit them to the Freshmen Office at the end of each week. Your total absences and the
required number of tutoring hours to be completed are listed in the table below.

What to expect regarding attendance:
● Attendance Acknowledgment Form
○ Notifies the parent of the truancy laws and must
be signed as part of the new and returning
student registration process.
● Automated Phone Calls
○ Every time your student is absent or not in their
assigned class you will receive a phone call
notifying you of the absence.
● Attendance Warning Letter
○ You will be notified in writing when your student
is absent without excuse on 3 or more
days/parts of days within 4 weeks. This letter
requests you to contact the school and set up a
meeting so the school may begin Truancy
Prevention Measures.

What is Upward Bound?
•Upward Bound is an early intervention academic program
designed to: (1) Help students graduate from high school and
(2) Enroll in a program of post secondary education
•Born out of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in response
to President L.B. Johnson’s “war on poverty”
•We are Federally funded by the US Department of Education
(5 year federally funded grant)
•We are housed out of Texas State University and have been at
Texas State for over 40 years
UB Activities
Academic Enrichment Sessions
- After School Academic Enrichment (2hrs)
- GPA Monitoring: Report Cards, Grade Checks, required to
maintain a 2.5 GPA
- College/Career Counseling
Academic Saturdays
- Once a month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Texas State
University or Various Colleges/Cultural Visits
College Visits/Trips
- Tours and Admissions Presentations, Cultural Activities
UB Summer Residential Program
A six-week, academic program that provides scholars with
supplemental academic instruction in English/Language Arts
and Mathematics and offers a variety of elective courses.
The program is held at the Texas State University campus.
The scholars get a real experience of “college life” and
independence by living in a residence hall and eating in school
dining halls four days a week. Evening activities are scheduled
to enhance academic and interpersonal skills of all
participating scholars.
This program is not optional (No exceptions)

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Foundation with Endorsements 26 credits to graduate 4 credits English 4 credits Math 4 credits Science 3 credits Social Studies (World Geography recommended) 1 credit Physical Education 2 credits World Language (In the same language) 1 credit Fine Arts 7 credits Electives (Associated with Endorsements)
  • 8. 90% Attendance Requirement A student must attend class 90% of the time it is offered in order to receive credit. If the student fails to meet this requirement he/she will be denied credit for the class(es) in which 90% attendance was not met. The student will need to retake the course(s) in summer school or via credit recovery. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

ATTENDANCE Semester I (August 2017 – December 2017) 77 days Semester II (January 2018 – June 2018) 99 days Absent > 8 days = credit denial with options to recover Absent > 19 days = credit denial, required to attend summer school Absent > 10 = credit denial with options to recover Absent > 25 days = credit denial, required to attend summer school Academic Recovery Options 1. After school tutoring - Student is responsible for tracking & submitting hours owed - Due: Semester I- December 22nd, 2017 & Semester II- June 7th, 2018 2. Saturday school (TBA) 3. Summer school (TBA) 4. Apply for attendance appeal (Extenuating circumstance) - Attendance appeal committee will review your child’s circumstance - Possible outcomes: hours cleared, reduce the number of hours owed or request denied

ATTENDANCE LETTERS- Semester I Under both TEC 25.092 and DVISD FEC (LOCAL): Except as provided below, a student shall not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance 90 percent of the days the class is offered. Therefore, students will not receive credit for a class if they miss more than 8 days semester I. In order to recover any potentially lost credits, students may complete Academic Tutoring (AST or ARC). Academic tutoring may be completed before and after school. To track your academic tutoring hours, students can pick up a academic tutoring log sheet in the NGC. In doing so, students will need to have their teachers sign off on their academic tutoring log sheets and submit them to the Freshmen Office at the end of each week. Your total absences and the required number of tutoring hours to be completed are listed in the table below. For more information regarding your attendance and tutoring requirements please see: Ms. De La Fuente, Mr. Medellin or Ms. Guzman in the NGC. What to expect regarding attendance: ● Attendance Acknowledgment Form ○ Notifies the parent of the truancy laws and must be signed as part of the new and returning student registration process. ● Automated Phone Calls ○ Every time your student is absent or not in their assigned class you will receive a phone call notifying you of the absence. ● Attendance Warning Letter ○ You will be notified in writing when your student is absent without excuse on 3 or more days/parts of days within 4 weeks. This letter requests you to contact the school and set up a meeting so the school may begin Truancy Prevention Measures. Let’s work together to make it a great one!

What is Upward Bound? •Upward Bound is an early intervention academic program designed to: (1) Help students graduate from high school and (2) Enroll in a program of post secondary education •Born out of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in response to President L.B. Johnson’s “war on poverty” •We are Federally funded by the US Department of Education (5 year federally funded grant) •We are housed out of Texas State University and have been at Texas State for over 40 years

UB Activities Academic Enrichment Sessions - After School Academic Enrichment (2hrs) - GPA Monitoring: Report Cards, Grade Checks, required to maintain a 2.5 GPA - College/Career Counseling Academic Saturdays - Once a month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Texas State University or Various Colleges/Cultural Visits College Visits/Trips - Tours and Admissions Presentations, Cultural Activities

UB Summer Residential Program A six-week, academic program that provides scholars with supplemental academic instruction in English/Language Arts and Mathematics and offers a variety of elective courses. The program is held at the Texas State University campus. The scholars get a real experience of “college life” and independence by living in a residence hall and eating in school dining halls four days a week. Evening activities are scheduled to enhance academic and interpersonal skills of all participating scholars. This program is not optional (No exceptions)
