Les Couleurs
Les adjectifs

What grammar
points do we
need to learn
to use French
adjectives?
Les adjectifs – the position of the
            adjective in French
• Some French adjectives (such as colours) come
  after the noun.
• Some French adjectives come
• before the noun (as they do
• in English).
• Some come before or after,
• depending on their meaning.
Most descriptive adjectives go after the noun.
These include shape, colour, taste, nationality,
personality & mood.
une table ronde
un livre noir
un garçon français

Participles are also placed after the noun.
 une histoire intéressante
un client intéressé
Some adjectives go before the noun. These are
  linked to
• beauty
• age
• good / bad
• size
      un bel homme
      une nouvelle maison
      un bon enfant
      un grand chien
Numeral adjectives go before the noun.
 douze oeufs – twelve eggs
 plusieurs oeufs – several eggs
le premier oeuf – the first egg

 chaque oeuf – each egg
touts les oeufs – all the eggs
Lesson Ideas
Extend the children’s writing
skills by giving them word banks
of French adjectives and getting
them to write / adapt sentences.
