Over several fiscal years from 2003 to 2009, the Franklin School Department implemented budget reductions that eliminated or reduced many teaching and support staff positions, cut various academic programs, and instituted or increased various student fees. Specific reductions included eliminating health, music, and foreign language programs; reducing physical education offerings; cutting guidance services; and introducing or increasing transportation, building use, athletic, and activity fees for students. Other reductions involved professional development, supplies, textbooks, and tuition reimbursement. The cumulative staffing cuts do not include the positions proposed for elimination in FY2009.
