This document provides information from a parent orientation for the fourth grade at Goforth Elementary School. 2. Communication
• Tuesday Folder-will be sent
home weekly containing

and return on Wednesday.

3. Communication
• Most communication will be sent electronically.
• Please check out CCISD 4 ME for current grades.
• Please e-mail your child’s homeroom teacher to verify
that we have your correct e-mail address in our
address books.
• Please DO NOT e-mail transportation changes
due to district policy.

4. Attendance
• If the child sees a doctor,
please send a doctor’s note.
Please refer to the Student
Handbook online for further
details.
• Tardy bell rings at 8:15.
• Any tardiness will result in
loss of learning time.
• We understand that emergencies
may arise but please realize that
when your child is checked out
early, they are missing valuable
instruction time. District
policy is that students can not
be checked out after 2:30.
• You will need to complete an
“unusual circumstances” form
from the office if the student will
be absent other than being ill at
home/doctor’s appointment.

5. Testing
• Fourth graders take writing STAAR, math STAAR
and reading STARR tests during the second semester.
• Writing- March 30th and March 31st
• Math- April 21st
• Reading- April 22nd
• District Curriculum Based Assessments (CBA) will
be administered throughout the school year.
• If you have questions about STAAR please contact
your teacher.

6. Dress Code
• Can be found in the Student Handbook on pg. 5
• Please make sure your child wears appropriate shoes
for PE and recess.
• Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately
for outside weather and mosquitoes. If you want to,
spray your child with mosquito spray before school.
Please do not send mosquito repellent. We risk other
students coming in contact with the spray who may
have a reaction to it.

7. • Please join our PTA. The cost to join is $10.00.
• Fall Festival will be held October 11th.
• Look for other announcements about upcoming PTA
sponsored events in your child’s Tuesday folder. PTA will be
using bright pink paper so that you can spot them easily.

8. Volunteers, Visitors, and Chaperones
• Volunteers must complete a confidential Criminal
History Information Record form.
• All visitors must scan a valid state issued ID when
signing in upon entering the office. This includes
visitors who are only going to the cafeteria for lunch.
• These measures are taken to ensure the safety of
your child.

9. Language Arts
• Writing Workshop
• Personal narratives and expository essays
• Modeled writing/independent writing

10. Social Studies
• Texas History
• Students will learn significant dates, events, and
people related to our state.
• Non-fiction reading skills will be practiced using the
textbook & Texas Studies Weekly.

11. Math
• Emphasis on problem solving as a process.
• Mastery of basic multiplication facts is imperative.
• Generally, math homework is distributed on Fridays and
due the following Friday.
• Homework is review material from this year or from 3rd
grade. We will not have homework over material that has
not been covered.
• If you have a question about math homework, please
contact your child’s math teacher.

12. Science
• Science Fair will be held in December and is
optional.
• Two extra class work grades will be added to your
child’s science average if they choose to participate.
• If your child is interested in applying to the Seabrook
Science Magnet Program for 6th grade, it is strongly
recommended that they participate in 4th and 5th grade.
• More information will be sent home to those
students who are interested.

13. Reminders
• “Students are prohibited from displaying or using paging devices,
cellular phones or other electronic communication devices on
school property during regular school hours unless specifically
authorized for educational purposes…The confiscated paging
device/cellular phone may be released to the student's
parent/guardian or the paging company upon the payment of a
$15 administrative fee made to the school, as authorized by the
Texas Education Code.”
