Fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source that were formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals. They include coal, petroleum, and natural gas, and currently provide over 85% of the world's energy demands. However, fossil fuel usage is unsustainable and causes significant environmental damage, such as air and water pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases contributing to climate change. Alternative renewable energy sources need to be adopted to replace fossil fuels and reduce their negative impacts on the planet.
