The document outlines initial ideas for a magazine called B3AT focused on the R&B/hip hop genre. The magazine will target both male and female readers aged 16-24 of all ethnicities. Key initial ideas include using an Asian male on the front cover to represent the diverse audience of R&B music. The contents page will list articles with images and an editor's letter. Double page spreads will feature close-up artist interviews on one side with a full-body image on the other. Photographs throughout will include medium close-ups of male artists and a small image of the editor. The color scheme and layout will remain consistent across issues.

Task 9 Formal Proposal
Title of Magazine
I have chosen to name my magazine B3AT; I have chosen this because it is short,
and linked to the magazine. The way it will be written is slightly urban as instead of
an actual ‘E’ it will have the number 3 so that it is different and stands out, it also has
connotations of being young, and fresh as it ultimatelyshows that it is informal. This
will be done to show what kind of magazine it will be and what things it will feature
such as fashion, and gossip.
Choice of Genre
I have chosen the genre of R&B/Hip Hop as I have already
got background information about that genre, and I
personally enjoy listening to that genre of music, so it
reflects my personal style and my personality. By me being
a fan of that genre of music I know what kind of things I
should pout in my magazine as I would put the things in the
magazine that I would like to see.
My Target Audience
The stereotypical target audience of R&B music is afro
Caribbean males, but I am aiming my magazine at both males and females aged 16-
24 that aren’t just Afro Caribbean. I have decided that I would like to use an Asian
male to be on the front cover of my magazine, this is because I think that R&B music
is very popular with Asian people
Initial Ideas for Front Cover
For my front cover I am planning to use a medium close up shot of an Asian male,
who looks serious as that is how the males on R&B magazines look. I have also
decided that I will use bright colours as that attractthe audience and I don’t want to
use dim dark colours as that isn’t appealing. I will have sell lines about the artists that
themagazinewill feature, and exclusive interviews.
Initial Ideas for My Contents Page
For my contents page, the masthead will say contents to establish what page it is,
and the name of themagazine will also be in the right hand corner and it will be
throughout the whole magazine. The colour scheme from thefront cover will run
through to the contents page as it makes it look sophisticated. There will be about 3
images on the contents page and an editor’s letter with an image of the editor.
Initial Idea for My Article
For the double page spread I would have the image of the artist/band on one side of
the page and theinterview on the other side of the page. It will be based on the artist
and what they have been up to and the music that they are going to be releasing.
The text will be in paragraphs.

Initial Ideas for Photographs
I have decided that I will use a medium close up
shot of my male artists, as that is what the
majority of magazines have on their front
covers. For the contents page the image of the
editor with the editor’s letter will be a small
image of the editor’s face. I will use both males
and females so that it attracts both genders as
that is who I have aimed my magazine at. For
the double page spread I have a long shot of
the artist to show their body language, and I will
have it against a plain background because I
don’t want the attention diverted of off the artist.
