- 1. FM1 COURSEWORK PART A AS Film Studies
- 2. Film Studies Assessment Unit FM1 is 40% of the AS course Assessed by 2 pieces of coursework Unit FM2 is 60% of the AS course Assessed by a 2 ½ hour exam paper with 3 extended response questions.
- 3. FM1 Assessment Part A – An analysis of a film extract – 1500 words [30] (15% of total AS) Part B – Creative Project - worth [50] (25% of total AS) After Jan Exam
- 4. FM1 Part A (a) An analysis of a film extract - 1500 words (30 marks) Candidates are required to explore how one or more of mise-en-scène, performance, cinematography, editing, and sound construct meaning and provoke response in a film extract. Candidates are encouraged to support their work with illustrative visual material. Recommended length of extract: approximately 3- 5 minutes (depending on the complexity of the extract). An approach in which a whole class studies the same extract is not permitted!
- 5. General points We will start by developing our understanding of the micro-features of film. In a few weeks you will need to identify a few 3-5 minute film sequences which you wish to study in some detail. You should select two micro-features on which to focus your analysis question. You will have clear deadlines for submission of drafts and rewrites.
