Florence Nightingale was the first female nurse born in 1820 in Florence, Italy. She came from a wealthy family but felt called to serve God and help the sick. In 1854, Nightingale led a group of 38 nurses to Crimea during the war to care for wounded soldiers. Florence Nightingale revolutionized nursing and established it as a respected profession. She died at age 90 and is commemorated in many hospitals with her picture and in the Florence Nightingale Museum in London.
