FLASH REVISE CARDS - THE ASSEMBLY OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS. The Assembly was the annual conference of League member states. The Proceedings of the Assembly appeared as a separate publication for the first three sessions, the first of which was held in Paris on January 16, 1920. Thereafter, until 1938, they were issued as a Special Supplement to the Official Journal. Resolutions passed in the Plenary Sessions were also published in Special Supplements. These supplements were numbered consecutively over the years.

The first meeting of the Assembly
The Assembly was the main body of the League of Nations, it was the
meeting place of all members.
The Assembly was the annual conference of League member states and
was like a Parliament of the League of Nations. Each country which
was a member sent someone to represent them at the assembly.
The Assembly could not enforce actions but could recommend them
to the Council of the League of Nations.
The Assembly met only once a year.
There were some areas where the Assembly could vote.
These included permitted other countries to join the League, electing
non-permanent members of the League, approving, and deciding the
budget of the League and recommending action for voting to the Council.
One major drawback of the Assembly was that all decisions had to be
unanimous. All members must agree on the action.
The Assembly was too big and did not meet often enough to deal
with crises as they occurred and so the Council was also set up.
