The document analyzes the lyrics of the Coldplay song "Fix You" and provides suggestions for how to depict those lyrics visually in a music video. It notes that the first verse expresses negative emotions like failure, despair, and feeling worthless. It suggests showing images representing these feelings, like a church representing last hope. The second verse is about unluckiness and being fed up, so winter scenes could show the mental state. The final verse is more hopeful, so the music video could change tone and include lights to visualize the hope. Overall, the analysis identifies themes in the lyrics and matches them to potential visual elements and scenes for a music video that would represent the song's meaning.
This is my evaluation of my A2 Media Products. In my evaluation I have compared my products to existing products and explained conventions in my chosen genre.
We are at the stage in which we are having to choose what song we will use for our music video. We narrowed our choices down to 4 songs, and this presentation covers positives and negatives for each song.
2. When you try your best but you don't succeed When you get what you want but not what you need When you feel so tired but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse. The Lyrics This verse is quite negative but can explain peoples emotions at some point of their lives when things are hopeless and therefore people can easily relate to these lyrics Not succeeding could be associated with any part in life but usually to do with money and therefore in the music video there could be quick shots to a scene which represents failure or the feeling of failing All these are negative feelings and therefore in a music video there could be images of a church to show the last hope which also links in to the church music in the background of the song
3. And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse? Close ups in a music video could show the despair and extremity of emotions This links in with the title of the song where somebody is metaphorically trying to fix somebody else This verse is about unluckiness as well and being fed up of everything, therefore if I was to use this song I should film during the winter months to show negativity everywhere showing the mental state of the person The rhetorical question draws the audience in and therefore it could be a video about one person who is troubled rather than the singers themselves for a more meaningful video
4. Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you And high up above earth or down below When you're too in love to let it go But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth This is the hopeful part of the song which is more positive and therefore the music video should change at this point This metaphorical language is intriguing and unique allowing the video to be different, it shows the relationship between two people and the need to fix each other rather than arguing and making each other unhappy or it could mean to just help somebody who is not feeling happy Lights could be involved in the music video at this point to let the audience visualise the hope themselves This is another positive section showing how this person should be happier because they are worth it rather than feeling unhappy and worthless

6. I may also look at Coldplay’s other songs from their new album Viva La Vida in which I have analysed for Digipack PowerPoint's and see if I also like any songs from there. One concern is how to get to a good standard with popular songs as they will be compared to the mainstream music videos easily but there is a lot of information about bands as big as Coldplay allowing you to get more research in preparation for filming a music video. Another concern is that a lot of other people will be using Coldplay and I intend to create a music video which is more unique and striking but ‘fix you’ is a song which I prefer over a lot due to the honest and meaningful lyrics.
