Prop List
I have decided to use a bouquet of flowers
and a wedding ring as our first set of props
as it will help us to represent the love in a
relationship. It will be used as a romantic
gesture as relationships and love are one of
the conventions use in hip-hop/R&B music
videos. For instance a wedding ring is used
in the R&B song ‘If I Could Turn Back the
Hands of Time- R.Kelly’. Both of these props
also fit in with the lyrics of our chosen song
of ‘Mine’, when the artist goes on to sing “we
should get married”
An iPhone 5 will be used as a prop as mobile
phones is a widely used props in hip-hop/R&B
music videos. In many music videos such as ‘Don’t
Matter- Akon’, ‘Ayo- Chris Brown Ft Tyga’ and
many others, mobile phones are used to record or
take a picture of their partner, receive or send text
messages to their boy or girlfriend or used to make
a phone call. This fits in with our genre as phones
in general are commonly used as a prop,
especially an iPhone as it is popular, up to date
and well known about.
Photos are used a lot in music videos as a way of
remembering happy moments from the past. Photos are
used in music videos such as ‘Give your heart a break-
Demi Lovato’ and ‘If I could turn back the hands of time-
R.Kelly’, as a way of showing the happy moments in a
relationship. In many R&B music videos, pictures are
used to represent the past love between a couple.
Using pictures fits in with our genre and song as the
artist speaks about the good and bad times in the
relationship. By using pictures we are able to capture
the good memories from the relationship.
Alcohol is a widely used prop which is shown in the
majority of hip-hop/R&B music videos. It is used as
a way of representing fun, wildness and partying.
This is a typical prop used by many artist in which
we intend to use in our music video. Alcohol fits in
with the genre as it is commonly used and is a
generic convention of hip-hop/R&B. It is used in
songs such as ‘How many time- DJ Khaled’, ‘Ayo-
Chris Brown’, ‘Ignition- R.Kelly’ and many more.
