The session layer establishes and maintains sessions between applications. It works as a dialog controller, manages tokens to prevent simultaneous access, allows synchronization through checkpoints, and provides mechanisms to open, close, and manage sessions. It uses checkpoints to resume communications from failure points and directly communicates with the presentation and transport layers.
This document discusses .NET remoting and serialization. It begins by introducing application domains and distributed applications in .NET. It then covers the key concepts and components of .NET remoting including remoting namespaces, remotable objects, channels, formatters, and object lifetime management using leases. The document also compares .NET remoting to web services and discusses object marshalling and serialization.
This document defines and describes different types of middleware. It begins by defining middleware as software that facilitates data exchange between applications across different hardware and network environments. It then describes three main categories of middleware: message-oriented middleware, remote procedure calls (RPCs), and distributed objects. For each category, it provides examples and discusses key features such as how message-oriented middleware uses asynchronous messaging to decouple applications, while RPCs use synchronous requests that can block applications. It also briefly mentions other types like database middleware and transaction processing monitors.
Reactive Stream Processing for Data-centric Publish/SubscribeSumant Tambe
The document discusses the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and key challenges in developing a dataflow programming model and middleware for IIoT systems. It notes that IIoT systems involve large-scale distributed data publishing and processing streams in a parallel manner. Existing pub-sub middleware like DDS can handle data distribution but lack support for composable local data processing. The document proposes combining DDS with reactive programming using Rx.NET to provide a unified dataflow model for both local processing and distribution.
2. Distributed Systems Hardware & Software conceptsPrajakta Rane
This document discusses distributed system software and middleware. It describes three types of operating systems used in distributed systems - distributed operating systems, network operating systems, and middleware operating systems. Middleware operating systems provide a common set of services for local applications and independent services for remote applications. Common middleware models include remote procedure call, remote method invocation, CORBA, and message-oriented middleware. Middleware offers services like naming, persistence, messaging, querying, concurrency control, and security.
Community application design for streaming analyticsSandeep Kumar
A startup company wants to build a private community app which will allow People to
create a specific community and invite other users to join that community. Each community
in itself is a social network like Facebook specifically for the people in that community.
Users can mainly have two workflows where, A community user can
1. do various types of posts (including text, images, videos) in community that will
show up in feed of other users, interact with the posts of other users (like, comment,

2. User can do conversation with other users via Direct messaging or there can be
various user discussion groups within that community where multiple users can do
conversations.

HTTP is the protocol that allows sending documents back and forth on the web. It uses a client-server model where clients initiate interactions by sending requests to servers, which then respond. Requests use methods like GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE and include headers and an optional body. Responses include headers, like Content-Type, and a body. REST is an architectural style that uses HTTP to build applications by representing resources with URLs and manipulating them via representations. It applies constraints like using a client-server architecture, stateless communication, caching, and a uniform interface.
Sandeep KN is a senior software engineer with 8 years of experience specialized in IoT, machine to machine communication, and REST architectures. He has a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication and a master's degree in software systems. Some of his projects include developing an IoT platform involving features like resource discovery, scheduling, and notification. He also has experience developing an open message bus for cloud environments and a 3G femtocell gateway involving call handover functionality. His skills include C/C++ and experience coordinating across teams to design and implement technical solutions.
The document discusses architectural models for distributed systems. It describes two types of models - architectural models and fundamental models. For architectural models, it covers communicating entities like processes, threads, objects, components; communication paradigms like inter-process communication, remote invocation, indirect communication; roles and responsibilities using client-server and peer models; and placement strategies like service provided by multiple servers and proxy servers. It also discusses architectural patterns like layering, platform, and middleware.
This document provides an overview of communication models and protocols in distributed systems. It discusses network protocols and standards like TCP and UDP. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is introduced as a way to invoke procedures on remote machines similarly to local calls. Remote Object Invocation (RMI) expands on this concept by allowing invocation of object methods remotely. Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) is described as an alternative to client-server models based on message passing. Stream-oriented communication supports continuous media like audio and video. Finally, multicast communication allows one-to-many information dissemination to multiple recipients.
Rich Miller & Surendra Reddy
Lighthouse is a concept for the creation of an intercloud registry service, based on (1) access points established and maintained by cloud instances to disseminate operational metadata; and, (2) the use of publish/subscribe (pub/sub) asynchronous messaging as the dominant means of disseminating operational metadata among the constituents of the intercloud.
The document discusses the objectives and concepts of the Lighthouse Intercloud Metadata Service. Lighthouse aims to enable the dissemination and exchange of operational metadata among clouds and between cloud services and consumers. It proposes that each cloud provider operates an autonomous Metadata Access Point to publish information about itself. A registry of these access points would then provide a mechanism for discovery and coordination across clouds. The document outlines several use cases and requirements for Lighthouse and reviews existing standards that could potentially be leveraged or extended to support its goals.
Distributed systems have several architectures including client-server, distributed objects, peer-to-peer, and service-oriented. Client-server divides systems into clients that request services and servers that provide services. Distributed object architectures treat all entities as objects that provide and use services. Peer-to-peer systems are decentralized with no clients or servers, while service-oriented systems are built by linking services from different providers. Middleware like CORBA supports communication between distributed components.
This document describes the architecture for mobile computing. It discusses three tiers: the presentation tier which deals with the user interface; the application tier which handles business logic and transactions; and the data tier which manages database access and storage. It also covers various middleware technologies used to connect these tiers, including message-oriented middleware, transaction processing middleware, and database middleware like ODBC and JDBC. Context-awareness and adapting content to different devices based on context is also discussed.
Service operator aware trust scheme for resourcejayaramb
The document proposes a service operator-aware trust scheme (SOTS) for resource matchmaking across multiple clouds. SOTS uses a middleware framework to evaluate trust based on multi-dimensional resource service operators to improve dependability. The broker can efficiently select the most trusted resources in advance using an adaptive trust evaluation approach based on information entropy theory. This overcomes limitations of traditional schemes that manually weight trust factors.
This document contains requirements for the OneM2M standard specification. It includes over 100 functional requirements across various categories such as semantics, security, charging, and operations. It also describes functional roles in OneM2M including end users, application service providers, machine-to-machine service providers, and underlying network providers. The requirements cover supporting communication between devices and applications, reusing services from underlying networks, and managing devices and gateways.
Distributed Systems Architecture in Software Engineering SE11koolkampus
Distributed systems architectures allow software to execute across multiple processors. Key approaches include client-server systems and distributed object architectures. Client-server divides an application into client and server components, while distributed object architectures treat all entities as objects that provide and consume services. Middleware like CORBA supports object communication and common services.
1) The document discusses various cloud computing architectures including workload distribution, cloud bursting, disk provisioning, resource pooling, dynamic failure detection and recovery architectures.
2) It also covers cloud mechanisms like automated scaling listeners, load balancers, pay-per-use monitors, audit monitors, SLA monitors and fail-over systems that are important components of cloud architectures.
3) Key aspects of cloud computing stack like composability, virtualization, platforms, communication protocols and applications are also summarized.

• Normal resources
include the complete set of representations of data
which constitutes the base of the information to be
managed.
• Virtual resources
used to trigger processing and/or retrieve results, but
they do not have a permanent representation in a
CSE.
• Announced resources
a resource at a remote CSE that is linked to the
original resource that has been announced, and it
maintains some of the characteristics of the original
resource.
parent-child

43. Approach – Try to map Arch and provide Data via Context Broker
▪ A translator application (AE) will
manage the data of different IPEs
▪ Discovery and Broker will be mapped
to Infrastructure CSE
▪ Data Handling will be done by Field
Domain CSE
▪ Protocol Adapter is handled in
oneM2M by IPEs

44. Translator AE
▪ Subscribe to data from the IPEs
• CSEs will support to discover
• Filter mechanism to find different kinds
▪ Convert data
• Data has to be mapped from format used in OpenMTC to FIWARE data model
• oneM2M can store nearly any format, data models are not proposed
• OpenMTC uses a data format that is inherited from SenML
▪ Store it into context broker
• Using NGSI9/10 to store into context broker
▪ Could also subscribe to enable actors besides of sensors
43
45. Conclusion
▪ OpenMTC can act as interworking unit to oneM2M systems
▪ Similar approaches to handle proprietary devices
▪ Gateway CSE + Interworking Proxy act like an IoT Agent
▪ Context Broker can act as integration point for FIWARE developers
▪ Translator AE could also be extended and placed in the IoT Gateway
• Need to support NGSI9/10 for supporting Discovery and Broker
▪ This approach is followed in the SmartOrchestra project
