Actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka no more
Bengaluru/Amaravati: The
Telugu film industry and the
political landscape of Andhra
Pradesh were left in shock
and mourning as news broke
of the sudden demise of
actor-politician Nandamuri
Taraka Ratna. The grandson
of former Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister and legendary
actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama
Rao and Jr NTR’s cousin,
Taraka Ratna passed away at
the age of 39 due to cardiac
arrest on Saturday. Taraka
was taking part in a proces-
sion called the Yuvagalam
Padayatra of TDP general
secretary Nara Lokesh in Chit-
toor (Andhra Pradesh).
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Shiv Sena
(UBT) leader Sanjay
Raut on Sunday
claimed a “deal of Rs
2000 crore” has taken
place so far to “pur-
chase” the Shiv Sena
party name and its
‘bow and arrow’ sym-
bol, two days after the
Election Commission
allotted them to the
group led by Maha-
rashtra Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde.
Raut in a tweet
claimed the Rs 2,000
crore was a prelimi-
nary figure, and that
this was 100 per cent
true.
He also told report-
ers that a builder close
to the ruling dispensa-
tion shared this infor-
mation with him.
The Rajya Sabha
member said his claim
was backed by proof
which he would dis-
close soon.
Raut on Sunday said
Rs 2,000 crore is not a
small amount to “pur-
chase” the name Shiv
Sena.
“The EC’s decision is
a deal,” he alleged.
“I have reliable infor-
mation that there has
been a deal of Rs 2000
crore to get the Shiv
Sena name and its sym-
bol. This is a prelimi-
nary figure and is 100
per cent true. Many
things will be revealed
shortly. Never before
this has happened in
the country’s history,”
Raut tweeted.
However, BJP leader
Mungantiwar said such
comments were an at-
tempt to malign inde-
pendent institutions
like the Supreme Court
and the Election Com-
mission of India.
People will teach a
lesson to those who
make such comments
which disrespect de-
mocracy, he said.
‘’Hope better sense
prevails,” he added.
Legislator Sada
Sarvankar from camp
led by Shinde dismissed
the claim and asked, “Is
Sanjay Raut a cashier?”
Maharashtra minis-
ter and BJP leader Su-
dhir Mungantiwar also
hit back at Raut saying
such baseless com-
ments were an attempt
to malign independent
institutions like the Su-
preme Court and the
Election Commission
of India.
Meanwhile, to a ques-
tion on Union Home
Minister Amit Shah’s
attack on former Maha-
rashtra CM Uddhav
Thackeray with “lick-
ing soles of those with
opposite ideology” jibe,
Raut asked, “What is
the present chief min-
ister licking? Maha-
rashtra doesn’t give
importance to what
Shah says. T h e
current chief minister
has no right to take
Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj’s name.”
Shah on Saturday
said those who chose to
“lick the soles” of
people with oppo-
site ideologies have
found which side
truth was on after
EC declared the fac-
tion headed by Ma-
harashtra CM
Eknath Shinde as
real Shiv Sena.

Be cautious, what happened
to Shiv Sena can happen to
you too: Uddhav Thackeray
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Shiv Sena
(UBT) president Ud-
dhav Thackeray on
Sunday said all politi-
cal parties need to open
their eyes and remain
cautious in wake of
Election Commission’s
decision of recognising
faction led by Maha-
rashtra CM Eknath
Shinde as real Shiv
Sena.
“What has happened
to Shiv Sena, how we
have been treated, can
happen to you too. All
parties should keep
their eyes open and be
cautious,” Thackeray
said during an interac-
tion with members of
north Indian commu-
nity here.
“You want my fa-
ther’s face, but not his
son. I was ready to
come along. If you
ditch me when I wanted
to implement a prom-
ise given to my father,
what should I do?” he
asked while targeting
the BJP.
“I never wanted to be
a chief minister, but
was asked by Congress
and NCP to take over
because otherwise a
government could not
have been formed. Had
BJP honoured the com-
mitment given, both
Shiv Sena and BJP
would have got their
chief ministers for two-
and-a-half years each,”
he said.
Those who want to
leave can go, but they
should merge with an-
other party. However,
they want to throw me
out of my house and
take it over, he alleged.
My father groomed
these people and Shiv
Sainiks supported
them. But now they
want to become owners
and our institutions
are such that they have
made a thief the owner
of the house, he said.
What has happened to Shiv Sena,

happen to you too. All parties
should keep their eyes open and be cautious.
I never wanted to be a chief minister, but

a reference to the split in
the Shiv Sena, which
brought down the Ud-
dhav Thackeray-led
Maha Vikas Aghadi gov-
ernment.
Taking a swipe at
Thackeray, the deputy
CM said, “Those who

BJP have now seen their
party finished in two-
and-half years after join-
ing hands with the NCP,
Congress (to form the
Maha Vikas Aghdi post
the 2019 Assembly poll
results). They have been
brought to the streets.”
In an apparent attack
on Thackeray’s repeated
utterances that the party
was founded by his fa-
ther late Bal Thackeray,
who groomed its leaders,
Fadnavis said “the Shiv
Sena cannot be a prop-
erty”.
“It is a school of
thought. There can be a
heir to a property or to

them in action and live
up to these thoughts,”

Never take his words seriously:
Sanjay Raut’s dig at Amit Shah
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Shiv Sena-
Uddhav Balasaheb
Thackeray faction lead-
er Sanjay Raut on Sun-
day took a swipe at Un-
ion Home Minister
Amit Shah by saying
that he has never taken
the latter “seriously”.
The Rajya Sabha
MP’s statement comes
after Shah remarked
that the formula of
“Satyameva Jayate” be-
came significant follow-
ing the Election Com-
mission’s decision to
allocate party name
Shiv Sena and the bow
and arrow poll symbol
to Maharashtra Chief
Minister Eknath Shin-
de-led faction.
“What Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah says has
never been taken seri-
ously. What can we say
about people who be-
lieve in buying justice
and truth? Who has
won and lost Maharash-
tra; we’ll show when
the time comes. We will
not say anything now,”
said Raut on Sunday
.
He further claimed
that the ruling Maha-
rashtra government
along with Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP)
“bought” Shiv Sena
party MPs, MLAs and
councillors.
“(It is) the party, the
leader the dishonest
group that bids Rs50
crore for MLAs, Rs100
crore for MPs and Rs50
lakh to Rs1 crore to buy
our councillors,” Raut
said.
Addressing a gather-
ing in Pune, UHM Shah
had said, “The Election
Commission made ‘doo-
dh ka doodh, aur paani
ka paani’ (established
the difference between
truth and lie). The for-
mula of ‘Satyameva
Jayate’ became signifi-
cant yesterday. Shinde
ji got the bow and arrow
symbol and the party
name Shiv Sena.”
While granting the
party name Shiv Sena
and bow and arrow par-
ty symbol to the Balasa-
hebanchi Shiv Sena fac-
tion on Saturday
, the EC
had observed, “The cur-
rent constitution of
Shiv Sena is undemo-
cratic and has been mu-
tilated to undemocrati-
cally appoint people
from a coterie as office-
bearers without any
election at all,” adding
that such party struc-
ture fails to inspire con-
fidence.

QUICK RECAP
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena experienced a split
in June last year when 40 MLAs led by incumbent Chief
Minister Eknath Shinde rebelled against the Maha Vikas
Aghadi government. As a result, the state government
collapsed and CM Thackeray had to resign from his
post. Following this, a new government was established
by the Shinde faction and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

First India Bureau
Pune: Nationalist Con-
gress Party (NCP) chief
Sharad Pawar on Sun-
day said he will not get
involved in the contro-
versy over allocation
of Shiv Sena party
name and poll symbol
to Eknath Shinde-led
faction.
He clarified his stand
on the Election Com-
mission’s decision after
Shiv Sena – Uddhav
Balasaheb Thackeray
camp leaders and even
his daughter, NCP’s Su-
priya Sule expressed
shock at the ruling.
In its decision on Fri-
day, the EC allowed the
Uddhav Thackeray fac-
tion to retain the name
Shiv Sena - Uddhav
Balasaheb Thackeray
and the flaming torch
poll symbol, till the con-
clusion of upcoming
Assembly bypolls in the
state. It was given to it
in an interim order in
October last year.
Pawar on Friday said
the loss of “bow and ar-
row” will not make any
difference to the Ud-
dhav Thackeray-led
Shiv Sena faction as
people will accept its
new poll symbol.
To a query from re-
porters over the issue on

who was in Pune’s Bara-

‘Shivaji Maharaj’s
followers stopped

First India Bureau
Mumbai: Sambhaji
Raje Chhatrapati, a
member of the former
Maratha royal family
of Kolhapur,onSunday
claimed police stopped
Shivaji Maharaj’s fol-
lowersfromgoingtothe
Shivneri Fort in Pune,
to accommodate the
visit of some VIPs. The
followers were at the
site on the occasion of
thewarriorking’sbirth
anniversary
.
Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde, who
visited the fort along
with Deputy CM Dev-
endra Fadnavis, said
they would take steps
so that the followers of
Shivaji Maharaj do not
face any hurdles while
visiting the Shivneri
Fort next year.
Incidentally, Shivaji
Maharaj was born at
the Shivneri Fort in
1630.
Former Rajya Sabha
member Sambhaji
Chhatrapati, who
could not attend the of-
ficial function at the
fort, claimed several
“Shiv bhakts” were
stopped by police in
the wake of the visit of
some VIPs to the fort.
Addressing a gather-
ing at the fort, he said,
“When I was near the
fort, some Shiv bhakts
approached me and
complained of police
restricting them from
visiting the fort. They
told me that police
were objecting to their
visit, citing crowding
which may lead to an
untoward incident
such as stampede.”
“This is highly un-
fair. The followers
should not face any
discrimination when
it comes to visiting the
Shivneri Fort. Had I
gone ahead, people
would have followed
me and this could have
led to a stampede,” he
added.
While addressing a
function on Shivaji
Jayanti, CM Shinde
said he heard Samb-
haji Chhatrapati’s
comments.
“We will take neces-
sary steps so that peo-
ple do not face any hur-

Shivaji Maharaj by distributing 38 bicycles to girls
from poor and rural backgrounds to help them
reach school and prevent them from dropping
out. This is their yearly celebration of the Maha-

Shivaji Maharaj,” said Dr Harshwardhan Raut.
Pune: Hailing Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj for rebuilding temples
destroyed during the rule of
Mughals and other foreign
invaders, Union Home Minister
Amit Shah on Sunday said the
restoration work is being taken
forward by Prime Minister Nar-

after inaugurating the first phase
of “Shivsrushti”, a theme park
based on the life of Shivaji Maha-
raj at Narhe-Ambegaon in Pune.
“Several temples were destroyed
during the rule of Mughals and
other foreign invaders. Last
week, Goa Chief Minister Pramod
Sawant did the redevelopment of
Saptakoteshwar temple, which
was reconstructed by Chhatra-
pati Shivaji Maharaj. Similarly,
the temples in south India were
also redeveloped by the Maratha
warrior king. Shivaji Maharaj
constructed grand gates in front
of the temples and tried to restore
these structures,” Shah said.
Aurangabad (PTI): The first

king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
will be held at the Raigad Fort
in Maharashtra on June 05 this
year. Preparations for it are in
full swing, Raigad Development

Raigad Development Authority
has undertaken conservation
work on parts of the fort and
is also working to hold a light
and sound show, a day before
Shivaji was coronated as the
emperor (on June 06, 1674),
Sambhaji Raje said on Saturday.
The script of the light and sound
show has been approved by the
authorities concerned, he said.
“The show will cover incidents
from the birth of Shivaji Maharaj
till his death. The rocky surface
behind the Holicha Maal area
will be used by the audience
to watch the show. They will
have a 180-degree view of the

Mumbai court to try minor as adult for rape
First India Bureau
Mumbai: A special
court in Mumbai is set
to try a 17-year-old teen
as an adult and not a
minor, after taking se-
rious cognizance of the
“heinous nature of the
crime” he committed.
The minor stands ac-
cused of repeatedly
raping and threatening
a 7-year-old girl.
While reading out
his order, special judge

“The mental and physi-

teen de-
fended him
by referring to the
probation officer’s
report, and claimed
there is “much pro-
gress” in the behav-
iour of the accused.
“The CCL is par-
ticipating in various
programmes. He has
undergone counselling
sessions and training
and is also pursuing
further education.
Thus, he needs to be
considered as ‘child’
and not an adult,” he
said.
However, after going
through the victim’s
statement, which stat-
ed that the accused
along with others had
sexually assaulted the
minor more than once,
the judge declined to
try him as an adult.
“The CCL and other ac-
cused threatened the
girl by saying that they
would commit the same
act with her sister too,”
he observed.
In his order, judge
Takalikar noted, “The
allegations of forcible
sexual intercourse, un-
natural sex, outraging
modesty of the victim
have been made against
this CCL and other ac-
cused. The case is that
of gang rape and na-
ture of offence is hei-
nous. Therefore, the
court directs the JJB to
send the accused for
trial after making a
preliminary assess-
ment.”

convicted a 32-year-old
man under Protection
of Children from Sex-
ual Offences (POCSO)

ing “aaja aaja” (come,
come) to a minor.
The court observed
that following a girl
and saying “aaja aaja”
to her despite her clear
indication of disinter-
est in him, was sexual
harassment.
The incident took
place in September
2015, when the victim
was a 15-year-old Class
X student. Appearing
before the court, she
said that she was fol-
lowed by the man on a
bicycle when she was

ass her for a few more
days, following which,
the girl narrated her
ordeal to her parents
and tuition teacher.
She later found out
that he worked as a se-
curity guard at a local
building. A police com-
plaint was lodged
against him by the
girl’s parents.
During court pro-
ceedings, the man had
sought leniency on
grounds of being mar-
ried with a child and
underprivileged. Ad-
ditional sessions judge
AZ Khan sentenced
him to the period he
had already served as

Prior to the latest or-

India placed orders for
aircraft was in 2005 for
111 aircraft during the

Jumbo of air india group order for 470 planes
The spotlight has shifted to a major problem
plaguing India’s roller-coaster aviation industry –
the current pilot shortage that is about to widen.
The big question on everyone’s mind within the
airline and the larger industry is, “Where will the
7,000-8,000 pilots needed to fly these planes
come from?”, especially at a time when India’s
airlines have been plagued by delays and cancel-
lations and have even been forced to find parking
space for their planes due to lack of cockpit crew
to fly them. And flight crew shortages are already
taking their toll with pilots complaining of rising
levels of fatigue, a less-than-reassuring trend in an
industry where the margin for safety is negligible.

Speaking to the media at the press conference, Rohit
pledged his support to ‘talented players' like KL Rahul, sug-
gesting those with such potential will get a long
rope by the team management. “Of late, there
has been a lot of talk about his batting. For us,
as team management, we always look at the po-

in the past about a lot of players. If a guy has
potential, he will get an extended run. Not just
KL. If you look at the couple of hundreds he got, especially at
Lord's, batting on that damp pitch. Centurion was another win.
Both came in India winning both games. That's the potential he
has,” Rohit said in the press conference on Sunday.

Power Min proposes tax
sops, green clearances
New Delhi (PTI): To pro-
mote pumped storage hy-
dro-power projects in In-
dia, the Ministry of Power
has proposed giving incen-
tives such as tax breaks,
easy environment clear-
ance and providing land at
concessional rates.
The ministry has re-
leased draft guidelines on
pumped storage projects
(PSPs) to seek comments
from states and state-run
companies as well as pri-
vate firms within a fort-
night till March 2, 2023.
Keeping in view the im-
mense utility of the PSPs in
grid stabilisation as well as
meeting the peaking power
demand, a need for formu-
lating separate guidelines
to promote PSPs was felt to
set the direction of its de-
velopment, the minsitry
said in the guidelines.
The CEA estimates re-
garding on-river pumped
storage potential is 103 GW
in India. Apart from this, a
large number of off-river
pumped storage potential
is also available.
Adani credit facilities expose
collateral web full of red flags
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Financing ar-
rangements across the
Adani Group conglomerate
have sent a fresh chill
through ESG markets as
investors wake up to a new
risk.
A Feb 10 public filing has
since made clear that Ada-
ni is using stock from its
Green companies as collat-
eral in a credit facility
that’s helping to finance
the Carmichael coal mine
in Australia, via Adani En-
terprises Ltd.
KLP has blacklisted coal
from its portfolio, so any
indirect financing of the
Carmichael project would
represent a “breach of our
commitments,” Kiran
Aziz, KLP’s head of re-
sponsible investing, said in
an interview.
Since short-seller Hin-
denburg Research pub-
lished its critical report on
Jan 24, investors have re-
sponded to its allegations
of fraud and market ma-
nipulation by selling Ada-
ni shares. But for investors
with environmental, social
and governance mandates,
there’s an added layer of
pain as they realise their
green dollars were indi-
rectly supporting the dirti-
est of fossil fuels.
“Investments in other
parts of the Adani Group
are leaking into the fund-
ing of Carmichael,” said
Ulf Erlandsson, chief ex-
ecutive of Anthropocene
Fixed Income Institute,
which has been tracking
the Adani Group since
mid-2020. “Investors who
have restrictions on fund-
ing greenfield thermal
coal mining should revisit
potential exposures
across the whole of Adani
Group.”
More than 500 funds reg-
istered in the European
Union as “promoting” ESG
goals hold Adani stocks,
either directly or indirect-
ly, according to data com-
piled by Bloomberg.
MAJOR
HIGHLIGHT
z Prior to the latest order of
470 planes, the last time AI
placed orders for aircraft was
in 2005 for 111 aircraft
AI fleet expansion a necessity, says ex-chief
New Delhi (PTI): Nearly
two decades ago, the then
government-owned Air In-
dia had an “extremely
small fleet” of aircraft that
was also prone to frequent
breakdowns. Then, aircraft
were taken on lease and
later the airline placed or-
ders for 111 planes.
In the wake of Air India
placing firm orders for 470
planes, V Thulasidas, who
was the airline’s chief from
December 2003 to March
2008, said there was a ne-
cessity for fleet augmenta-
tion that will also help ad-
dress the long standing
grievance that most of the
Indians travelling interna-
tional are carried by for-
eign airlines.
Prior to the latest order,
the last time Air India
placed orders for aircraft
was in 2005 for 111 aircraft
during the time of Thu-
lasidas.
While stressing the im-
portance of international
aviation hubs, he said In-
dia can have many such
hubs as there are now
world class airports and
strong airlines.
“It is us who gave away
the (international) hubs to
Singapore, Dubai and oth-
er places. This was because
we did not have good air-
ports and did not have
large, strong airlines.
“Now, we have world
class airports which can
act as hubs and we are now
gradually seeing very
strong airlines coming up.
With this combination,
there can be international
hubs in India.

Pune: Maharashtra
Chief Minister Eknath
Shinde showered prais-
es on Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and
Home Minister Amit
Shah for supporting
him in forming the gov-
ernment and said that
the Prime Minister has
helped in the develop-
ment of everyone in
this country.
“At the time of the
establishment of the
government, PM Modi
and Amit Shah said
that we are with you. I
remember the words of
Amit bhai, who said,
Shindeji, you move
ahead, we are behind
you like a rock,” said
Eknath Shinde.
“Narendra Modi is
the number one leader
not only in the country
but also in the world. I
am fortunate that PM
Modi’s blessings are
with the state govern-
ment,” added Shinde.
Speaking about the
coalition with the BJP
in the state, “What we
did was right. We cam-
paigned and fought the
election together. How-
ever, the government
was formed with some-
one else. Was it cor-
rect? No. That’s why we
came back with the
BJP.”
Talking about Shiv
Sena founder Balasa-
heb Thackeray, he said,
“Balasaheb used to say
that if he becomes the
Prime Minister he
would get Article 370
removed and would
build the Ram temple.”
“His dreams are be-
ing fulfilled by Amit
Shah under the leader-
ship of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi,” he
added.
“This country runs
on the Constitution
drafted by Babasaheb
Ambedkar. We formed
our government on the
basis of that Constitu-
tion. The EC order that
came today is on the
basis of merit. I ex-
press my gratitude to
the Election Commis-
sion,” he said.

Baramati: Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP)
chief Sharad Pawar on
Sunday agreed with
Home Minister Amit
Shah’s views that the
cooperative sector in
the country should in-
trospect in order to im-
prove its systems.
“Yesterday, Amit
Shah was in the Coop-
erative Council, which
was inaugurated by me
on the day before
yesterday[Friday]. We
have no differences on
the issues raised by
him, our policy issues
were discussed, and the
ones raised by him
[Amit Shah’s] seemed
appropriate,” NCP
chief Sharad Pawar
said talking to ANI. The
NCP chief was talking
about Amit Shah’s ad-
dress during an event
in Maharashtra where
he had pointed to the
drop in the number of
cooperative sugar mills
in Maharashtra and the
rise in the number of
private ones.
“I will talk about Ma-
harashtra since I am in
Maharashtra. There
were 202 cooperative
sugar mills in Maha-
rashtra. Today, the
number is down to 101.
There were 22 private
sugar mills in the state,
but this has now gone
up to 93. They ate up our
(cooperative) space.
The cooperative sector
needs to introspect on
why this is happening,”
Shah said.
Shah had further as-
sured full support to the
cooperative sector in
the country from the
Central government as-
serting that the former
needs to introspect to
improve its systems.
“As far as credit soci-
eties, urban banks and
district cooperative
banks are concerned, a
lot needs to be done. We
had a series of meet-
ings with the Reserve
Bank of India and I can
say about the issues
that were brought be-
fore me here on this
platform, we will en-
sure all these institu-
tions do not face any
injustice,” he added.
Talkingfurtherabout
the ongoing ‘bow and
arrow’ issue in Maha-
rashtra, Sharad Pawar
termed the matter a
“separate topic”.
“I do not want to say
anything about the is-
sue of bow and arrow
that is going on at pre-
sent, that is a separate
topic. I had already put
my views on that the
day before yesterday,”
Pawar said today
.
The day before yes-
terday on Friday,
Sharad Pawar re-
marked on the loss of
the “bow and arrow”
symbol of his ally Ud-
dhav Thackeray’s fac-
tion stating that it
would not have any

Mumbai: Union Home
Minister Amit Shah on
Sunday set the BJP and
its allies a target of
winning all 48 seats in
Maharashtra in the
2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing a gather-
ing of BJP workers in
Kolhapur, he also
lashed out at Shiv Sena
(UBT) chief Uddhav
Thackeray for “surren-
dering at the feet of
(Nationalist Party Con-
gress chief) Sharad Pa-
war” to become chief
minister.
Thackeray had bro-
ken the alliance with
BJP after the 2019 As-
sembly poll results
were declared claiming
the latter had reneged
on its promise to share
the chief ministerial
tenure with the Shiv
Sena.
“In 2019, the BJP and
its allies won 42 out of
48 seats. This time, we
should win all 48 seats,”
Shah told his party
workers.
Attacking Thackeray
,
Shah said, “Hinduhri-
day Samrat Balasaheb
Thackeray’s Shiv Sena
was surrendered at the
feet of Sharad Pawar.
(Thackeray) contested
Assembly elections
with us with the largest
cut-outs being that of
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi. But after the
results were out, he
(Thackeray) surren-
dered at the feet of
Pawar.”
“We are not greedy
for power nor have we
ever sacrificed our
principles. The last Ma-
harashtra assembly
election was contested
under the leadership of
then chief minister De-
vendra Fadnavis. PM
Modi and I had openly
said this during our ral-
lies. Despite this,
(Thackeray) joined
hands with the opposi-
tion,” he added.
“By deceit you can at-
tain power for few days,
but when it comes to
the battlefield, you need
courage to win,” Shah
said without naming
Thackeray

Mumbai: NCP state
president Jayant Patil
commented on the deci-
sion of the Shinde fac-
tion getting the name
and symbol of Shiv
Sena. While speaking in
Sangli during the inau-
guration of develop-
ment works in various
wards of the Municipal
Corporation, Patil said
that Uddhav Thackeray
submitted documents
to the EC, but still, the
decision was given in
favour of Shinde.
Patil said, “Times
have changed, justice
has changed. People are
saying that those who
are expected to give jus-
tice are blindfolded.
Now, justice will have to
go to the people’s court.
The EC has given the
verdict in favour of CM
Shinde. Tomorrow, the
Supreme Court may
say that since the party
belongs to Shinde,
there is no question of
suspension.”
“The IT department
took action against the
office of the BBC chan-
nel as a videotape about
Godhra massacre was
shown by BBC. That
means the action will
be taken against those
who speak against it.
Citizens of India should
be careful now,” urged

Mumbai: The Election

ed to give Shiv Sena’s
name and bow and ar-
row symbol to Eknath
Shinde. After this, Ud-
dhav Thackeray and his
leaders are making
strong accusations

Shinde. Due to this, the
political atmosphere
has become more heat-
ed in the state. In con-
nection with the same,
Uddhav Thackeray has
given an open challenge
to Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde and BJP
on Sunday
.
While speaking at a
gathering of North In-
dians, Uddhav said,
“Yesterday they
snatched my bow and
arrow, now Prabhu
Ramchandra himself
has come with me. I
don’t know whether to
call this coincidence,
but sometimes such
things happen. I chal-
lenge those who have
stolen my party’s name
and bow and arrow that
if you have the courage,
face me with my stolen
bow and arrow, let me
come forward with my
torch, and see what
happens.”
“Today
, I say that I am
a Hindu, I have never
left Hinduism and will
never leave. I left BJP
not Hindutva. BJP is
not Hindutva, and their
Hindutva is not our
Hindutva. I say openly
that it is not acceptable
to us. What my father
taught me is not Hindu-
ism. In my father’s lan-
guage, nationalism is
our Hindutva. Our Hin-
duism is connected
with the country, but
their Hindutva says to
fight among yourselves,
fight in a family, fight in
a party, and get power,”
added Uddhav.

Nagpur: Devkinandan
Thakur Maharaj has
made a statement that
every Sanatani family
should give birth to five
to six children until the
Population Control Act
comes into effect in our
country. Thakur Maha-
raj visited Nagpur to
narrate the story of
Shri Krishna. He also
said that the popula-
tion explosion in India
is so big that no one can
even think about it. No
one talks about four
wives and forty chil-
dren, he said.
“My point is that un-
til the Population Con-
trol Act is enforced,
every Sanatani family
should have more chil-
dren. There used to be
5-6 children. For this,
boys and girls should
get married on time and
also give birth to 5 to 6
children,” said Thakur
Maharaj.
“Don’t you know if
our country does not
become a Hindu nation
and follow orthodox re-
ligion in the next 10
years, what will happen
in 25 years? Will this
country remain secular
after 25 years? What I
have said will be under-
stood only if you know
the truth behind it. Do
we have to think for the
next generation or
not?”, commented
Thakur Maharaj.
DevkinandanThakur
Maharaj has also de-
manded establishment
of Sanatan Mandal.
“Today, there are Waqf
Boards in many places.
Therefore, Sanatan
Board should be estab-
lished. The central gov-
ernment should keep it
under its supervision.
We are a minority in at
least 9 states, but no-
body calls us that,” he
added.
“Our country be-
lieves in eternal tradi-
tions. We became secu-
lar 75 years ago, but
Sanatan culture is not
over. I had demanded
that Sanatan Boards
should be established 5
years ago. The board
needs to ensure that
Sanatan tradition is
passed on,” he said.

First India Mumbai 20022023.pdf

  • 1. Actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka no more Bengaluru/Amaravati: The Telugu film industry and the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh were left in shock and mourning as news broke of the sudden demise of actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka Ratna. The grandson of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Jr NTR’s cousin, Taraka Ratna passed away at the age of 39 due to cardiac arrest on Saturday. Taraka was taking part in a proces- sion called the Yuvagalam Padayatra of TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh in Chit- toor (Andhra Pradesh). First India Bureau Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday claimed a “deal of Rs 2000 crore” has taken place so far to “pur- chase” the Shiv Sena party name and its ‘bow and arrow’ sym- bol, two days after the Election Commission allotted them to the group led by Maha- rashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Raut in a tweet claimed the Rs 2,000 crore was a prelimi- nary figure, and that this was 100 per cent true. He also told report- ers that a builder close to the ruling dispensa- tion shared this infor- mation with him. The Rajya Sabha member said his claim was backed by proof which he would dis- close soon. Raut on Sunday said Rs 2,000 crore is not a small amount to “pur- chase” the name Shiv Sena. “The EC’s decision is a deal,” he alleged. “I have reliable infor- mation that there has been a deal of Rs 2000 crore to get the Shiv Sena name and its sym- bol. This is a prelimi- nary figure and is 100 per cent true. Many things will be revealed shortly. Never before this has happened in the country’s history,” Raut tweeted. However, BJP leader Mungantiwar said such comments were an at- tempt to malign inde- pendent institutions like the Supreme Court and the Election Com- mission of India. People will teach a lesson to those who make such comments which disrespect de- mocracy, he said. ‘’Hope better sense prevails,” he added. Legislator Sada Sarvankar from camp led by Shinde dismissed the claim and asked, “Is Sanjay Raut a cashier?” Maharashtra minis- ter and BJP leader Su- dhir Mungantiwar also hit back at Raut saying such baseless com- ments were an attempt to malign independent institutions like the Su- preme Court and the Election Commission of India. Meanwhile, to a ques- tion on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s attack on former Maha- rashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray with “lick- ing soles of those with opposite ideology” jibe, Raut asked, “What is the present chief min- ister licking? Maha- rashtra doesn’t give importance to what Shah says. T h e current chief minister has no right to take Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s name.” Shah on Saturday said those who chose to “lick the soles” of people with oppo- site ideologies have found which side truth was on after EC declared the fac- tion headed by Ma- harashtra CM Eknath Shinde as real Shiv Sena. TO 'PURCHASE' SHIV SENA DEAL NAME AND SYMBOL, SAYS RAUT 2000CR DEAL ` Sanjay Raut (@rautsanjay61) I have reliable information that there has been a deal of Rs 2000 crore to get the Shiv Sena name and its symbol. This is a preliminary figure and is 100 per cent true. Many things will be revealed shortly. Never before this has happened in the country’s history. The Rajya Sabha member said his claim was backed by proof which he would disclose soon Be cautious, what happened to Shiv Sena can happen to you too: Uddhav Thackeray First India Bureau Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) president Ud- dhav Thackeray on Sunday said all politi- cal parties need to open their eyes and remain cautious in wake of Election Commission’s decision of recognising faction led by Maha- rashtra CM Eknath Shinde as real Shiv Sena. “What has happened to Shiv Sena, how we have been treated, can happen to you too. There can be a heir to a property or to some assets but not for thoughts. You have to put them in action and live up to these thoughts,” Fadnavis said. Never take his words seriously: Sanjay Raut’s dig at Amit Shah First India Bureau Mumbai: Shiv Sena- Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction lead- er Sanjay Raut on Sun- day took a swipe at Un- ion Home Minister Amit Shah by saying that he has never taken the latter “seriously”. The Rajya Sabha MP’s statement comes after Shah remarked that the formula of “Satyameva Jayate” be- came significant follow- ing the Election Com- mission’s decision to allocate party name Shiv Sena and the bow and arrow poll symbol to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shin- de-led faction. “What Home Minis- ter Amit Shah says has never been taken seri- ously. In its decision on Fri- day, the EC allowed the Uddhav Thackeray fac- tion to retain the name Shiv Sena - Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray and the flaming torch poll symbol, till the con- clusion of upcoming Assembly bypolls in the state. It was given to it in an interim order in October last year. Kumar further said ma- jor risks going forward will emerge from a synchro- nized downturn in the North American and Euro- pean economies. “India has a good oppor- tunity to persevere with a highgrowthratebecauseof the reforms undertaken during the last eight years. We will manage to grow at 6 per cent in 2023-24,” he said. According to Kumar, there are several downside risks, especially in the con- text of an uncertain global situation. “These will have to be tackled through careful pol- icy measures designed to support our export efforts and at the same time im- prove the flow of private investment both from do- mestic sources as well as from foreign sources,” he said. The Reserve Bank has projected India’s economic growth at 6.4% for 2023-24, broadly in line with the es- timateof theEconomicSur- vey tabled in Parliament. GDP growth is estimated at 7% in 2022-23, according to the first advance esti- mate of the NSO. The Economic Survey 2022-23 projected a baseline GDP growth of 6.5% in real terms for the next fiscal. Replying to a question on high inflation, Kumar said the Reserve Bank has said that it will ensure that in- flation rate is brought un- der control. “Also a good winter crop will help in keeping the food prices low,” he noted. The RBI lowered the con- sumer price inflation (CPI) forecast to 6.5% for the cur- rent fiscal from 6.7%. India’s retail inflation in January was 6.52%. Markets may face vola- tile trends amid deriva- tives expiry during the week, they added. “Global cues and FO expiry may cause volatility this week. Although FIIs have shown some interest in purchasing over the past few days, there were a few block purchases last week, so their flow will be cru- cial,” said Santosh Meena, Head of Research, Swasti- ka Investmart Ltd. Brent crude oil move- ment and the trend in the rupee would also be in fo- cus this week. “With all major events behindus, theperformance of the global markets, espe- cially the US, will be in fo- cus for cues. Besides, crude and rupee movement will continue to offer indica- tions in between,” Ajit Mishra, VP Technical Re- search, Religare Broking Ltd, said. The BSE benchmark last week climbed 319.87 points or 0.52%. The lack of major trig- gers in the domestic mar- ket will attract global cues to dictate the market’s trend going forward, Nair added. The ministry has re- leased draft guidelines on pumped storage projects (PSPs) to seek comments from states and state-run companies as well as pri- vate firms within a fort- night till March 2, 2023. Keeping in view the im- mense utility of the PSPs in grid stabilisation as well as meeting the peaking power demand, a need for formu- lating separate guidelines to promote PSPs was felt to set the direction of its de- velopment, the minsitry said in the guidelines. The CEA estimates re- garding on-river pumped storage potential is 103 GW in India. Apart from this, a large number of off-river pumped storage potential is also available. Adani credit facilities expose collateral web full of red flags First India Bureau Mumbai: Financing ar- rangements across the Adani Group conglomerate have sent a fresh chill through ESG markets as investors wake up to a new risk. A Feb 10 public filing has since made clear that Ada- ni is using stock from its Green companies as collat- eral in a credit facility that’s helping to finance the Carmichael coal mine in Australia, via Adani En- terprises Ltd. KLP has blacklisted coal from its portfolio, so any indirect financing of the Carmichael project would represent a “breach of our commitments,” Kiran Aziz, KLP’s head of re- sponsible investing, said in an interview. Since short-seller Hin- denburg Research pub- lished its critical report on Jan 24, investors have re- sponded to its allegations of fraud and market ma- nipulation by selling Ada- ni shares. But for investors with environmental, social and governance mandates, there’s an added layer of pain as they realise their green dollars were indi- rectly supporting the dirti- est of fossil fuels. “Investments in other parts of the Adani Group are leaking into the fund- ing of Carmichael,” said Ulf Erlandsson, chief ex- ecutive of Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute, which has been tracking the Adani Group since mid-2020. “Investors who have restrictions on fund- ing greenfield thermal coal mining should revisit potential exposures across the whole of Adani Group.” More than 500 funds reg- istered in the European Union as “promoting” ESG goals hold Adani stocks, either directly or indirect- ly, according to data com- piled by Bloomberg. MAJOR HIGHLIGHT z Prior to the latest order of 470 planes, the last time AI placed orders for aircraft was in 2005 for 111 aircraft AI fleet expansion a necessity, says ex-chief New Delhi (PTI): Nearly two decades ago, the then government-owned Air In- dia had an “extremely small fleet” of aircraft that was also prone to frequent breakdowns. Then, aircraft were taken on lease and later the airline placed or- ders for 111 planes. In the wake of Air India placing firm orders for 470 planes, V Thulasidas, who was the airline’s chief from December 2003 to March 2008, said there was a ne- cessity for fleet augmenta- tion that will also help ad- dress the long standing grievance that most of the Indians travelling interna- tional are carried by for- eign airlines. Prior to the latest order, the last time Air India placed orders for aircraft was in 2005 for 111 aircraft during the time of Thu- lasidas. While stressing the im- portance of international aviation hubs, he said In- dia can have many such hubs as there are now world class airports and strong airlines. “It is us who gave away the (international) hubs to Singapore, Dubai and oth- er places. This was because we did not have good air- ports and did not have large, strong airlines. “Now, we have world class airports which can act as hubs and we are now gradually seeing very strong airlines coming up. With this combination, there can be international hubs in India. = =

We have no differences on the issues raised by him, our policy issues were discussed, and the ones raised by him [Amit Shah’s] seemed appropriate,” NCP chief Sharad Pawar said talking to ANI. The NCP chief was talking about Amit Shah’s ad- dress during an event in Maharashtra where he had pointed to the drop in the number of cooperative sugar mills in Maharashtra and the rise in the number of private ones. “I will talk about Ma- harashtra since I am in Maharashtra. There were 202 cooperative sugar mills in Maha- rashtra. Today, the number is down to 101. There were 22 private sugar mills in the state, but this has now gone up to 93. They ate up our (cooperative) space. The cooperative sector needs to introspect on why this is happening,” Shah said. Shah had further as- sured full support to the cooperative sector in the country from the Central government as- serting that the former needs to introspect to improve its systems. “As far as credit soci- eties, urban banks and district cooperative banks are concerned, a lot needs to be done. We had a series of meet- ings with the Reserve Bank of India and I can say about the issues that were brought be- fore me here on this platform, we will en- sure all these institu- tions do not face any injustice,” he added. Talkingfurtherabout the ongoing ‘bow and arrow’ issue in Maha- rashtra, Sharad Pawar termed the matter a “separate topic”. “I do not want to say anything about the is- sue of bow and arrow that is going on at pre- sent, that is a separate topic. I had already put my views on that the day before yesterday,” Pawar said today . The day before yes- terday on Friday, Sharad Pawar re- marked on the loss of the “bow and arrow” symbol of his ally Ud- dhav Thackeray’s fac- tion stating that it would not have any major impact. First India Bureau Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday set the BJP and its allies a target of winning all 48 seats in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Addressing a gather- ing of BJP workers in Kolhapur, he also lashed out at Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray for “surren- dering at the feet of (Nationalist Party Con- gress chief) Sharad Pa- war” to become chief minister. Thackeray had bro- ken the alliance with BJP after the 2019 As- sembly poll results were declared claiming the latter had reneged on its promise to share the chief ministerial tenure with the Shiv Sena. “In 2019, the BJP and its allies won 42 out of 48 seats. This time, we should win all 48 seats,” Shah told his party workers. Attacking Thackeray , Shah said, “Hinduhri- day Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena was surrendered at the feet of Sharad Pawar. (Thackeray) contested Assembly elections with us with the largest cut-outs being that of Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi. But after the results were out, he (Thackeray) surren- dered at the feet of Pawar.” “We are not greedy for power nor have we ever sacrificed our principles. The last Ma- harashtra assembly election was contested under the leadership of then chief minister De- vendra Fadnavis. PM Modi and I had openly said this during our ral- lies. While speaking in Sangli during the inau- guration of develop- ment works in various wards of the Municipal Corporation, Patil said that Uddhav Thackeray submitted documents to the EC, but still, the decision was given in favour of Shinde. Patil said, “Times have changed, justice has changed. People are saying that those who are expected to give jus- tice are blindfolded. Now, justice will have to go to the people’s court. The EC has given the verdict in favour of CM Shinde. Tomorrow, the Supreme Court may say that since the party belongs to Shinde, there is no question of suspension.” “The IT department took action against the office of the BBC chan- nel as a videotape about Godhra massacre was shown by BBC.
