Kolkata: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday accepted the challenge thrown
by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to contest from his Nandigram

ridgerton, Netf-
lix’s hit of the
season, which
is adapted from
the historical
fantasy novels of Julia
Quinn, plays fast and loose
with history. It opens in
1813, the year in which
Jane Austen’s Pride and
Prejudice was published,
Napoleonic war raged in
Europe and London’s West-
minster Bridge was illumi-
nated by the world’s first
public gas company.
Bridgerton is far from
an accurate portrayal of
the historical Regency pe-
riod in which it is set –
named for the transfer of
power from the incapaci-
tated King George III to his
son George IV in 1811 until
the king’s death in 1820.
However, it does get some
things right.
In the show, London’s so-
cial set are abuzz with gos-
sip provided by the anony-
mous column of Lady
Whistledown. The column-
ist’s salacious writing is in
step with the time: gossip
newspapers circulated in
Regency London, detailing
the exploits and scandals
of the “Bon Ton”, or fash-
ionable elite, during “the
season”.
As Bridgerton’s histori-
cal consultant Hannah
Grieg has detailed, this was
the six months each year
during which the daugh-
ters of Britain’s richest
families would be present-
ed at court, and advanta-
geous marriages arranged.
Some have expressed
surprise at Bridgerton’s
depiction of sex on screen.
But, while Daphne Bridg-
erton’s (Phoebe Dynevor)
extensive outdoor copula-
tion against a backdrop of
triumphant baroque archi-
tecture may not have been
every new bride’s experi-
ence, sex was everywhere
in Georgian England. For
two shillings, tourists in
London could purchase
Harris’ List of Covent Gar-
den Ladies, a catalogue of
sex workers in the city that
later informed the show
Harlots.
Scandalous elopements,
abductions and unfaithful
spouses within the upper
classes were all fodder for
the gossip columns. The
adultery trials of aristo-
cratic women proved par-
ticularly popular, among
them Seymour Fleming,
known as Lady Worsley in
1782, and Lady Anne Foley
in 1786.
Another thing Bridger-
ton has received attention
for its clumsy handling of
issues of race in the Re-
gency period. The show is
one of several recent cos-
tume dramas looking to
make the historical pres-
ence of people of colour in
Regency England visible.

gency period. The show is

While the decision to in-
troduce racial diversity to
the story has been lauded
by many, including the nov-
els’ author, Julia Quinn,
Bridgerton has faced
strong criticism from
scholars and viewers alike.
Bridgerton’s visual cul-
ture is no less implicated.
Across its luscious sets,
paintings copied from real-
life artworks give depth
and legitimacy to the Re-
gency world created on-
screen. A group portrait of
the Bridgerton brothers,
hung in the stairwell of
Bridgerton house and to
which the camera returns
throughout the series, rep-
licates Sir Joshua Reyn-
olds’s 1760s depiction of
the British politician Hen-
ry Fane and his friends.

#COVID19 has made ‘Health’
the central focus of global
agenda. Even though the world
has collectively portrayed great
resilience while facing this
unprecedented challenge, it is
an opportune time to focus on
overcoming shortcomings building
stronger healthcare systems.
n big corporate houses, there
are various departments to
achieve company goals. They
have a group of senior manag-
ers leading each department.
They also have a department
called Market Analysis which
enables them to stay connected
with the market of their seg-
ment, but small companies do
not have such facility of de-
partment segmentation. In a
small company, there will prob-
ably be a small team – maybe
four or five employees. The pro-
moter will be thoroughly in-
volved in every aspect of the
business – from production to
sales and finance and service.
The small company may not af-
ford the cost of Managers and
Leaders. At such a time, if the
promoter or company owner
does not have progressive
thinking, then the company
will not grow.
Also, some small entrepre-
neurs believe that whatever
they know is true. They give
great importance to their tradi-
tional thinking for the compa-
ny’s operation. They always try
to find some other kind of fault
with new things or ideas. They
are too much into their own
world. They often give more
importance to a process driven
by people and if a particular
manager remains absent for a
day they become conscious.
They never try to invest in pro-
cess Automation or system de-
velopment. They believe and
have over-confidence in their
own skills, but whenever they
face a sudden challenge in the
company, they get confused
and start panicking.
If the Head of a company
possess such a hollow view
then the company has to bear a
heavy loss at some or the other
point in time. The Head of the
company needs to change its
mindset. If the company wants
to be on the path of develop-
ment, then the Head of the
company should keep a pro-
gressive approach and connect
with some outside expert fol-
lowing the vision of the com-
pany’s business.
Today let’s talk about one
such progressive company’s
entrepreneur, Keyur Shah, Pro-
moter and CEO of Reyes Tech-
serve Pvt. Ltd. This company is
a renowned IT company offer-
ing innovative technologies
and software to the healthcare
industry and most of its busi-
ness comes from the USA. In
order to keep the company pro-
gressing for the last 17 years,
Keyur has been continuously
offering new ideas and innova-
tive products to the customers.
The company’s philosophy is to
give more than what is re-
quired at any corner of the
world, and also within the fixed
time limit.
Keyur believes that if you
want to keep your customers
happy, then you have to keep
employees happy. Mr. Keyur is
an outspoken partner who has
participated in the vision of
the company so that employees
are optimally participating in
the development of the com-
pany. With the help of external
Experts, Keyur has been pro-
moting employees to become a
part of the company’s growth.
Every single employee has
been given a fixed goal, they
are all made to feel responsible
for the task they have been del-
egated. The company has im-
plemented the Flexible Work-
ing Hours Policy. Keyur, who
gave the company an MNC-like
atmosphere, has adopted a five-
day working culture.
Reyes TechServe is now look-
ing forward to becoming a lead-
ing IT company making busi-
ness easier, and all the credit
goes to Keyur’s company em-
ployees and progressive cul-
ture of the company. In his
words, if you want to develop
continuously, and need to be a
step ahead of the market and it
requires expert opinion then it
is advisable to take one.
The conclusion of the whole
discussion is if the company
has to develop with a progres-
sive mindset and develop skills
to look at both sides of a coin,
then you need to encourage
progressive and expert person-
alities to participate in your
company’s vision leading to
the ultimate benefit of people.

fter Mamata Banerjee’s confidante Suv-
endu Adhikari defected to the BJP, the
move was nothing short of a political
quake in West Bengal. Adhikari’s depar-
ture from Trinamool Congress was sig-
nificant because of the influence he commands in
not one or two but 65 Assembly constituencies
across six districts. He was the face of the Nandi-
gram protests over land acquisition by the Left
government in 2007 in which 14 people were killed.
Mamata herself was deeply involved in the pro-
tests and coined the “Maa, Maatee, Manush” slo-
gan which catapulted her to power in Bengal in
2011. Now Mamata has locked horns with Adhi-
kari by announcing her decision to contest from
Nandigram, which is the latter’s home turf. She
will also contest from the Bhawanipore seat.
“I have always started my campaign for the as-
sembly polls from Nandigram. It is a lucky place for
me,” said the West Bengal chief minister who is a
legislator from Bhawanipore in south Kolkata. The
announcement is tantamount to throwing a gaunt-
let which was promptly accepted by Suvendu Adhi-
kari. The former transport minister responded by
saying that if he can’t beat Mamata by “half lakh
votes” he will “quit politics”, making it one of the
most prestigious contests in the coming elections.

SIBAL REMINDS CONG
OF PROMISED REJIG
n December last year, Congress Presi-
dent Sonia Gandhi pacified a group of 23
dissenters (G-23) by accepting in princi-
ple their demand for inner-party democ-
racy, which implied holding elections for
the Congress Working Committee and the new
chief of All-India Congress Committee. Even after
five-hour long deliberations between Sonia Gandhi
and G-23, the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s return as
party president remained unresolved. With nearly
a month gone, there is no indication that the Con-
gress leadership is in any hurry to keep that prom-
ise. Rahul Gandhi remains a reluctant leader even
as the disenchantment in the party is growing.
Internal issues plaguing the Congress once again
resurfaced with senior leader Kapil Sibal question-
ing the delay in effecting the much-needed changes
in the party. “Since the meeting on December 19,
we’re almost one month down the road. We’ve had
no response on how and when this will happen. We
hopethatthatresponsecomes inthenext few days,”
said Sibal who could not attend that meeting as he
wastravellingabroad.Alsoabsentfromthemeeting
were Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Rajiv Sa-
tav, and some other loyalists of Rahul Gandhi.
The revival of Congress is imperative for its sur-
vival. It has already faced electoral reversals in
Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala. Its prospects
don’t look good in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and
Assam. With internal strife persisting and no clar-
ity on party president, sentiment against the Gan-
dhis is growing. Yet, they seem to think that pana-
cea lies in procrastination and not in taking the
problems head-on.

New Delhi: The Su-
preme Court said on
Monday the entry of
protesting farmers into
Delhi on Republic Day
to be decided by the Del-
hi Police due to it being
a “law order issue”.
The apex court was
hearing a plea seeking
an injunction against
the proposed tractor
rally on January 26.
“We said this last time
that entry to Delhi has
to be seen under Delhi
police. Who should not
be allowed and the num-
ber of people who can
enter are all matters of
law and order to be
dealt with the by the po-
lice,” the top court said.
“We have indicated
to the Attorney General
and Solicitor General
that it’s totally up to the
police to decide who
should enter and who
should not. Does the
Union of Indian want
police to be told that
they have powers under
the police act?,” said
the bench, after the AG
sought an adverse or-
der against the tractor
rally.The matter has
been adjourned till
Wednesday.
In an application
filed through the Delhi
police, the Centre told
the court that any
planned rally or demon-
stration that aimed to
interrupt and disrupt
the festivities of Repub-
lic Day would cause the
nation to be “embar-
rassed”.
After the hearing,
Union Agriculture Min-
ister Narendra Singh
Tomar said that the re-
forms brought in by
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi were “coura-
geous” and would ben-
efit farmers.
Agitating farmer un-
ions have remained
firm on holding a trac-
tor rally on the Repub-
lic Day and vowed to
continue their stir till
the Centre’s farm laws
are repealed. Agricul-
ture Minister Narendra
Singh Tomar on Sunday
urged them to discuss
alternatives to scrap-
ping the legislation at
the next meeting sched-
uled for January 19.
However, Bharatiya
Kisan Union (BKU)
leader Rakesh Tikait
told reporters in Nag-
pur that the farmer
groups were prepared
to sit in protest till May
2024. “Our demand is
that the three laws be
taken back and the gov-
ernment provide a legal
guarantee on the MSP,”
he said.
In an application filed
through the Delhi po-
lice, the Centre told the
court that any planned
rally or demonstration
that aimed to interrupt
and disrupt the festivi-
ties of Republic Day
would cause the nation
to be “embarrassed”.
Meanwhile, union
leader Yogendra Yadav
said at a press confer-
ence at the Singhu bor-
der protest site that the
agitating groups will
carry out a tractor pa-
rade on the Outer Ring
Road in Delhi on Repub-

PM’S VEILED DIG AT CONG: PREVIOUS GOVT
LACKED MODERN APPROACH FOR METRONew Delhi: Prime Min-
ister Narendra Modi on
Monday took a veiled
dig at previous Con-
gress-led United Pro-
gressive Alliance (UPA)
regime, saying that the
previous government
had no modern ap-
proach and policy for
metro.
Speaking at the
‘Bhoomi Poojan’ of
Ahmedabad Metro Rail
Project Phase-II and Su-
rat Metro Rail Project
via video conferencing,
the Prime Minister said
over 450 kms of metro
network became opera-
tional in the last six
years.
“Work on projects
worth Rs 17,000 crore is
starting from today.
This shows that the
country’s efforts for
new infrastructure pro-
jects is increasing dur-
ing COVID-19.
Ahmedabad and Surat
are cities that will em-
power self-reliant India.
Ahmedabad and Surat
are receiving very im-
portant gifts today. Met-
ro will further strength-
en the connectivity in
two major business cen-
tres of the country -
Ahmedabad and Su-
rat,” he said on Monday.
“These metro pro-
jects are being concep-
tualised to meet the
needs of the future. Our
cities will get better fa-
cilities,” PM Modi said.
He added that during
the previous regime ex-
pansion of metro rail-
ways in the country was
comparatively ‘less sig-
nificant’, adding that
around 1,000 kms long
metro lines are being
laid in 27 cities.
“Before 2014, only 225
kms of metro line be-
came operational in 10-
12 years. In last 6 years,
over 450 kms of metro
network became opera-
tional.
Once there was no
modern approach for
metro, and there was no
metro policy. As a re-
sult, there are different
metro in different cities
based on different tech-
niques and facility.
There was no integra-
tion of metro with oth-
er public transport me-
diums,” the Prime Min-
ister asserted.
“Today, we are devel-
oping transportation
system of cities as inte-
grated system. We are
developing cities’ trans-
port system like inte-
grated system, which
means that bus, metro,
rail will not ply as per
their own design but
work as collective sys-
tem, complementary to
each other,” he added.
Prime Minister Nar-
endra Modi highlighted
that Surat is eighth big-
gest city in terms of
population and fourth
fastest growing city in
the world.

LDA ACTION
AN EYEWASH!
Inaction by police
in the case lodged
against Dilip Bafla by
Lucknow Development
Authority (LDA) has
raised questions against
the LDA as well as
the police. The police
as per information
received is not getting
the support of LDA for
initiating action against
Bafla. The LDA had
lodged a case against
Bafla alleging that he
had come to the office
for misappropriation
of files. Moreover, the
Mahasamiti had also
accused Bafla of large
scale misappropriation
of land. But in this case
also, the silence of
LDA has raised many a
question as to why no
action has been initiated
against Bafla so far or
why the police have not
been able to arrest him
despite the fact that
he was going around
freely and available
for investigation. Bafla
is also alleged to be
making phone calls
through WhatsApp so
that his conversation
could not be recorded.
However, now is
such a situation the
Mahasamiti will have
to come forward in the
public interest and not
wait for LDA to break
its silence on the issue.
Moreover, the LDA may
give up its land but how
could the Mahasamiti
allow corruption in the
public interest. The big
question is whether
Bafla is showing the
mirror to vice-chairman
Abhishek Prakash or is
Bafla proving to be a
heavyweight in the case.

Yogi govt scrambles to
SC after petitions against
‘love jihad’ law flood HCFirst India Bureau
Lucknow: With a lot of
casesbeingfiledagainst
the Yogi governments’
Uttar Pradesh Prohibi-
tion of Unlawful Con-
version of Religion Or-
dinance of 2020, loosely
referred as the ‘love ji-
had’ law, in the Alla-
habad High court, the
UP government has
moved Supreme Court
for relief. The Yogi Adi-
tynath government has
filed a petition in the
Supreme Court for a
stay of all proceedings
of cases filed in Alla-
habad High Court re-
garding the ordinance
and the government has
also asked the cases to
be transferred to Su-
preme Court from the
Allahabad High Court.
The hearing on the
petitions against ‘love
jihad’ ordinance will be
heard on 25th January,
the order was given by
the bench of Chief Jus-
tice Govind Mathur and
Justice SS Shamsheri.
The bench was also in-
formed of the petition
regarding the transfer
of cases filed in the Su-
premeCourt.Thebench
observed that while a
notice has been issued
by the Supreme Court,
no interim order has
been passed thus hear-
ing is not barred.
In the petition, the
anti-conversion law has
been challenged as one
which is against the
constitution’s funda-
mental rights of a per-
son to live and also free-
dom of choice. The call
for repealing the ordi-
nance has been made
because such an ordi-
nance can be misused.
The state government
defended the law saying
that the law has been
brought to protect civil
rights and not to violate
anyone’s fundamental
right. The ordinance is
to prevent conversion
through deceit. The Di-
vision Bench of high
court rejecting the gov-
ernment’s plea to ad-
journ the hearing until
the ongoing hearing in
the Supreme Court and
has decided 25th Janu-
ary as the final hearing
date.
The state govern-
ment was represented
by Advocate General
Raghvendra Pratap Sin-
gh. He told the court
that a petition in the
Supreme Court is also
being heard in addition
to transferring of all
the cases from the state
to the Supreme Court so
that all the cases can be
heard simultaneously.
The high court ob-
served that while the
Supreme Court has not
passed any interim or-
der, the hearing for the
case in High Court can-
not be adjourned. The
state government had
earlier filed its reply in
the court on January
5th which was 102 pages
long and declared that
the ordinance was nec-
essary.
Four separate appli-
cations were filed in the
Allahabad High Court
against the anti-conver-
sion ordinance and all
the petitions had one
commonconcernwhich
was that the ordinance
was non-essential and
is for only political
gains.

n what could be de-
moralising for the
moraleof IPSoffic-
ers in Uttar Pradesh,
the unexpected, out of
turn transfers, alleg-
edly on the whims and
fancies of a handful
influential is not only
defying the Apex
Court guidelines for a
minimum two-year

but also allegedly out
toaffectsmoothandef-
ficient policing in the
state. For example,
Anurag Arya, who
took charge of Pratap-
garh in August last
year was transferred
from within a span of
just six months due to
health reasons while
Arvind Chaturvedi,
who took charge of
Barabanki in January
last year, was also sent
toSultanpurbeforethe
completion of one
year, despite his work-
ing having been appre-
ciated by many.
According to for-
mer Director General
of Police (DGP)
Prakash Singh,
known for working on
police reform over the
years, the pace and
pattern in which po-
lice district chiefs are
changed in UP are pa-
thetically different
from the transfer pat-
tern of district magis-
trates. As per Singh,
the recent case of
Hathras was a glaring
example in this con-
text. He further men-
tioned that the trans-
fer of police officers
was mostly carried
out due to political
reasons. Police offic-
ers doing good work
should be given a
chance to work for at
least two years as the
Apex Court order
also mentions so, he
added.
Ex-DGP Vikram
Singh also feels that
most transfers are in
self-interest and not in
the public interest. Po-
litical interference is
the biggest reason for
transfers.
It takes six months
for a police officer to
understand a district
and at least one year to
improve its condition.
therefore, any good of-
ficer should be given a
two-year posting in a
district.
KHAKIKHAKIHELD AT RANSOM!
KHAKIHELD AT RANSOM!
IPS transfers allegedly on the whims and fancies of
a handful influential continues to be the norm while
denting the morale of country’s biggest police force
GLARING EXAMPLES PRESENT A CLEAR
PICTURE OF IPS TRANSFERS IN STATE
1: Shiva Hari Meena is the 14th IPS
officer in Pratapgarh, a politically
charged district. Most of the district
chiefs so far have been able to stay
for six months or less which raises
the question that whether IPS officers
do not like this district or vice versa.
Interestingly the unexpected rapid
transfer of police chiefs in the district
has failed to improve the law and
order scene.
2: In Sultanpur, IPS officer Arvind
Chaturvedi is the fifth officer to be
posted as Superintendent of Police
within a span of two-and-a-half years.
The district considered as important
in political terms has a pathetic law
and order scene as rising crime has
always posed as a challenge. In this
district also, the inability of an IPS
officer to stay for long is a puzzle.
3: Prabhakar Chaudhary, another
IPS officer with a clean image, has
also faced several transfers within
three years. Currently serving as
Superintendent of Police, Moradabad,
Chaudhary had few months stay as
police chief in different districts
including Varanasi, Sonbhadra,
Bulandshahr, Sitapur and Ballia and
Kanpur (Dehat). In the name of public
interest, the government continued
transferring Chaudhary to different
districts at short intervals. On the
contrary in the same state with the
same government setup, many
tainted officers continue to receive
important postings sans any special
achievement.
4: Further IPS Atul Sharma of
2009 batch was made police chief
of several major districts including
Prayagraj. However, with major
crime incidents during his tenure,
he was suspended and removed on
charges of corruption.
5: Finger was raised on the posting
of promotee IPS officer RP Pandey,
who was said to be close to former
cabinet minister and senior
Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan.
Sanjeev Tyagi, another 2010 batch
IPS officer, who was in controversy
due to misbehavior with women
officers during the tenure of the SP
government, was made police chief of
Auraiya and then Bijnor. Recently he
was being transferred to Pratapgarh
but later cancelled. Similar postings
of controversial officers Ajaypal
Sharma and Himanshu Kumar were
carried out.
6: Another glaring example is that
of Abhishek Dixit, a 2006 batch IPS of
Tamil Nadu cadre who despite lacking
experience in leading major districts
besides having serious corruption
charges against him leveled was
posted as chief of a district like
Prayagraj. He was later suspended.
People who volunteer to help
others simply because it has
to be done are true symbols of
humanity and love.

Lucknow: For Riya
Kejriwal, a
2017-batch IAS of-
ficer of Rajasthan
cadre, the New Year
brought cheer and
her joy knew no
bounds when she got
a transfer order to
Uttar Pradesh.
She had applied for a
change in cadre to UP
on grounds of mar-
riage as her husband
and batchmate Ishan
Pratap Singh is an IAS
officer in UP. The De-
partment of Personnel
and Training approved
her request and Riya
has packed her bags
and all set to join her
hubby soon.
She, however, is lucky
to have got the clear-
ance soon.
For, there are
around a dozen such
requests for cadre
change on similar
grounds are pending
with the DoPT,
sources revealed.
The Centre has
tweaked the policy but
existing norms still al-
low an IAS officer to
choose the cadre state
of his/her spouse.
“The proposals are
at various stages of
consideration,” said
an official. The cen-
tral government
may, with the con-
currence of the state
governments con-
cerned, transfer an
officer from one cad-
re to another cadre
on the ground of
marriage, as per a

SP CASHES IN ON BJP’S
KAYASTH NONCHALANCE
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The assem-
bly elections in Uttar
Pradesh are a year
away and the political
parties are managing
the political equa-
tions to trump the ri-
vals in the real battle
of votes.
The BJP through the
MLC elections has put
out a strong message
looking to maintain its
caste combination. It
has given tickets to dal-
its, backward classes,
Vaishya, Thakur, Bhu-
mihar and Brahmin.
But the party could not
adjust one for its core
vote bank-the Kayasth
community.
This folly, many be-
lieve, has given the Sa-
majwadi Party a weap-
on to bill the BJP as an-
ti-Kayastha. The BJP
has fielded a Thakur
Kunwar Manvendra
Singh from Jhansi
while Arvind Sharma,
former IAS officer who
joined the party recent-
ly is a Bhumihar from

represent the Brah-
mins, while Laxman
Acharya and Surendra
Chowdhary come from
the dalit community.
The party has accom-
modated state vice pres-

the Vaishya community.
It was expected of the
BJP to give ticket to a
Kayasth candidate fol-
lowing the victory of
SP’s Ashutosh Sinha in
the election for legisla-
tive council from Vara-
nasi.
The SP has accused
the BJP of using the
Kayasth community
when it needs and at-
tempting to marginalise
it politically.
Ashutosh Sinha said
the BJP has merely
used the community
but never gave its due.
The Kayasth leaders
and workers were not
given a place in state
body nor has anyone
been sent to Rajya Sab-
ha or legislative coun-
cil. This, despite the
fact that the communi-
ty has always sided
with the BJP and voted
en masse. The SP has
shown its unwavering
commitment towards
the community.
The BJP hasn’t field-
ed any Kayasth leader
for Lok Sabha elec-
tions, mayoral or MLC
elections. The SP on
the other hand gave
one ticket to the com-
munity in 2014 LS elec-
tions and mayoral tick-
et from Jhansi. In 2017
elections the BJP had
given tickets to five
Kayasths and SP to
three.OnlyoneKayasth

however, accused the

ne of India’s most
proficient and im-
portant designers
in the fashion pan-
theon, Rajesh
Pratap Singh is
originally from
Jaipur and now runs his
fashion empire from New
Delhi. His minimalist view-
point and his super-luxuri-
ous execution ensure his
position in the industry
and he is often celebrated
by his peers.
His seasonal offerings in-
clude the most beautiful
winter basics and outer-
wear. Known as one of the
most intellectual of design-
ers, his work is widely ap-
preciated for the complex
development of his fabrics.
Not for him the conveni-
ence of ordering woollen
fabrics from China and Ita-
ly, for he maintains that In-
dian wool counts amongst
the finest in the world and
all it needs is the correct
production guidelines to
make a difference and up-
grade Indian wool to global
standards.
To achieve this, he set up
his own looms in Neemrana
just outside New Delhi and
hired the very best of weav-
ers to produce his fabrics
under his masterful super-
vision. At Rajasthan Herit-
age Week, he showed his
mastery over the medium
with a series of exquisitely
made woollen ensembles
for men women.
Here, he worked with the
Khadi wool of Rajasthan
right from its original
source, choosing the best
quality of raw material
that was processed accord-
ing to his exacting stand-
ards. This raw wool was
hand-spun into fine yarn
and woven by the Master
Weavers of the State, like
Sitaram Ji of Barmer who
painstakingly wove the fab-
ric into the yardage that
would form the foundation
of his collection.
Once the fabric was
ready, he shipped it back to
New Delhi for the finishing
and dyeing process. Some
of the finished product also
returns to Rajasthan for
hand block printing by the
master artisans, and then
again back to New Delhi to
be made into his interna-
tionally celebrated gar-
ments.
This is what sets Rajesh
Pratap Singh apart from
the quotidian. His fabrics
are virtually impossible to
replicate, creating an ex-
clusivity that appeals to the
purists of fashion, for they
know that to wear his col-
lection is literally a badge
of sartorial honour. While
many designers are content
to buy fabric from the usu-
al Chinese/Turkish/Italian
import houses, Rajesh
will never compromise
his exacting standards,
developing his fabrics
from the ground up sea-
son after season.
This winter, he used
wool in an extremely re-
stricted colour palette
of white and off-white com-
bined with grey and black
anthracite to send out a col-
lection at once strong and
sophisticated. His fabrics
were woven into chequered,
striped or jacquard designs,
sometimes inspired by sim-
ple tribal blankets and
sometimes by traditional
European classics. His
block printed woollen fab-
rics created a sensation, for
the furry surface texture of
wool does not lend itself
easily to block printing,
and especially with vegeta-
ble dyes. This was perfectly
executed by the artisans.
Embellished with subtle
detailing like Kantha em-
broidery and resist dyeing
processes to create a batik
effect, his International sil-
houettes were dramatic
and his tailoring impecca-
ble. From blazers to great-
coats, and from three-piece
suits to separates, each
piece reflected his personal
philosophy. Gender fluidity
played a big role in his im-
aginative offerings, blur-
ring lines as his men wore
skirts and the women wore
sharply tailored ensembles
inspired by menswear.
There is no one quite like
Rajesh Pratap Singh in the
Indian Design firmament,
and for me, he is truly the
most important and cere-
bral designer in a market
space flooded with spurious
western knock offs and cop-
ies. With a loyal band of
customers the world over
acquiring his collections,
ensuring that their ward-
robe features timeless piec-
es that can be worn for a
lifetime of style.
With serious investment
and funding, the Rajesh
Pratap Singh label is per-
fectly poised to become an
international brand.

YOUR
DAYHoroscope by
Saurabbh Sachdeva
here are people
who call it “green
blood” and credit
innumerable ben-
efits to it. As per
claims, wheat-
grass juice can
have dramatic effects in
the management of diabe-
tes, hypertension, heart
diseases, infertility, low li-
bido, obesity, thalassemia,
hemolytic anemia, skin
sores, aging, diseases of
teeth, eyes, muscles and
joints. Claims are made
about the significant role
in the management of
asthma, allergies, inflam-
matory bowel diseases,
cancers, arthritis and loss
of mental functions!
They base their claims
on hemoglobin like struc-
ture in wheatgrass where
magnesium replaces iron
and claim that almost eve-
ry mineral and antioxi-
dant is present in this so-
called “wonder” herb.
Doesn’t this all sound
utopian? There is an old
saying that too many
friends mean no friend.
How can a single herb con-
tain so many ingredients
and can have so many ef-
fects that it can treat al-
most every sickness under
sun! Have you ever looked
closely at a wheatgrass
leaf ? It looks like a stroke
of green by a painter with
no veins and scaffolding
like other green leaves of
plants and trees. It is in
these veins and scaffold-
ing that the minerals and
other substances are
stored. You will see no
such veins and scaffolding
in wheatgrass leaf. This
means the leaf mainly
contains chlorophyll pig-
ment which is responsible
for photosynthesis in
which carbon is extracted
from soil and oxygen and
hydrogen are taken from
the water, then with the
help of sun rays, it synthe-
sizes carbohydrates which
are food for the plant and
are essential for the sur-
vival of the plant.
The theory that it is a
good source of magnesi-
um stands on the loose
ground because magnesi-
um deficiency in human
beings is rare as all the
grains, seeds, leafy green
vegetables and all vegetar-
ian and non-vegetarian
fiber contain plenty of
magnesium. Wheatgrass
is neither a unique nor a
dominant source of this
mineral whose require-
ment to the human body is
also minimal.
The leaf is mainly com-
posed of chlorophyll and
some traces of minerals
and this story of green
blood holds no ground as
magnesium can not carry
oxygen which iron in
hemoglobin does and the
theory of similarity of
structure with dissimilar
constituents appears il-
logical. Secondly, human
intestines can neither
breakdown chlorophyll
nor absorb it so, by simple
logic, chlorophyll is of no
use to the human body.
Some people claim that
wheatgrass juice removes
cancer cells from mouth
cancers and intestinal tu-
mours but no widespread
studies have been conduct-
ed and any beneficial claim
at this juncture should be
considered as an over-en-
thusiasm.
Studies conducted to
date on the usefulness of
wheatgrass “wonders” are
mainly restricted to test
tubes, no clinically signifi-
cant research has been
conducted on a large hu-
man population. But the
enterprising businessmen
have found an opportunity
to make some quick money
as dreams are always easy
to sell to gullible people
who are always in search
of shortcuts to great
health.
Lastly, your logical que-
ry is what you should do?
Well, if you are a fan of
“green blood”, stay so be-
cause fans are usually
overwhelmed by emo-
tions, not logic. They, most
of the time, follow some
unproved line of thoughts,
usually non-factual but
the longevity of belief in
miracles is unending. Let
wheatgrass juice be the
“green nectar” of your
morning drink and nur-
ture the euphoria of
health, vitality, virility
and longevity. Forget the
fact that you don’t need
and can’t perform photo-
synthesis, drink a glass of
green as it is palatable and
as such, causes no harm.
Furthermore, being
drawn from a plant source,
it might do some, yet un-
known, good as well.
But if you expect a mira-
cle, then there might be
many disappointments but
once again, habits die
hard, a myth has its own
survival strength so, drink
if you feel good but do not
forget your cucumber, to-
mato, potato and spinach,
plus remember cabbage,
cauliflower, cluster beans
and coriander.

Stating that it is a law and order matter, the apex court said, “Police is first authority to decide who should be allowed to enter Delhi. We are not going to tell you what you should do. We will take up this matter on Jan 20.” P5 GOVT: REACTIONS, 2 DEATHS NOT LINKED TO VAX New Delhi: A total of 3.8 lakh people have been vaccinated since the rollout of the coronavirus vaccines three days ago, the government said on Monday. P6 —PHOTOBYANI Nandigram (West Bengal): West Bengal Chief Minister and Tri- namoolCongress(TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced that she will contest from Nandigram As- sembly seat in the state election that is due in just a few months. The Chief Minister’s return to Nandigram is a direct challenge to Su- vendu Adhikari, who has led an exodus of Trinamool leaders to the BJP over the past few weeks. Over 40 Tri- namool Congress lead- ers joined Adhikari as he defected to the BJP in a mega rally in De- cember in the presence of Union Home Minis- ter Amit Shah. “I will contest from Nandigram Assembly. If possible I will contest from both Bhawanipur and Nandigram,” she said while addressing a rally here. Didi sounds bugle for WB polls from Nandigram Her former right hand man Adhikari, who represented the seat, but crossed over to BJP says ‘CHALLENGE ACCEPTED’ ADHIKARI ACCEPTS DIDI’S DARE, SAYS WILL DEFEAT HER IN NANDIGRAM OR QUIT POLITICS Kolkata: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday accepted the challenge thrown by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to contest from his Nandigram assembly seat, asserting he will defeat her in the election or quit politics. He, however, said the final decision to field candidates will be taken by BJP leadership after thorough discussion and not in an arbitrary way like in the ruling TMC. “If I am fielded by my party from Nandigram, I will defeat her by a margin of at least 50,000 votes or I will quit politics,” he asserted. “I don’t know from where I will be fielded, whether I will be fielded,” he said, addressing BJP workers after a three-km road show. Banerjee, Adhikari alleged, was playing with the sentiments of the people of Nandigram. It opens in 1813, the year in which Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was published, Napoleonic war raged in Europe and London’s West- minster Bridge was illumi- nated by the world’s first public gas company. Bridgerton is far from an accurate portrayal of the historical Regency pe- riod in which it is set – named for the transfer of power from the incapaci- tated King George III to his son George IV in 1811 until the king’s death in 1820. However, it does get some things right. In the show, London’s so- cial set are abuzz with gos- sip provided by the anony- mous column of Lady Whistledown. The column- ist’s salacious writing is in step with the time: gossip newspapers circulated in Regency London, detailing the exploits and scandals of the “Bon Ton”, or fash- ionable elite, during “the season”. As Bridgerton’s histori- cal consultant Hannah Grieg has detailed, this was the six months each year during which the daugh- ters of Britain’s richest families would be present- ed at court, and advanta- geous marriages arranged. Some have expressed surprise at Bridgerton’s depiction of sex on screen. But, while Daphne Bridg- erton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) extensive outdoor copula- tion against a backdrop of triumphant baroque archi- tecture may not have been every new bride’s experi- ence, sex was everywhere in Georgian England. For two shillings, tourists in London could purchase Harris’ List of Covent Gar- den Ladies, a catalogue of sex workers in the city that later informed the show Harlots. Scandalous elopements, abductions and unfaithful spouses within the upper classes were all fodder for the gossip columns. The adultery trials of aristo- cratic women proved par- ticularly popular, among them Seymour Fleming, known as Lady Worsley in 1782, and Lady Anne Foley in 1786. Another thing Bridger- ton has received attention for its clumsy handling of issues of race in the Re- gency period. The show is one of several recent cos- tume dramas looking to make the historical pres- ence of people of colour in Regency England visible. Another thing Bridger- ton has received attention for its clumsy handling of issues of race in the Re- gency period. The show is one of several recent cos- tume dramas looking to make the historical pres- ence of people of colour in Regency England visible. While the decision to in- troduce racial diversity to the story has been lauded by many, including the nov- els’ author, Julia Quinn, Bridgerton has faced strong criticism from scholars and viewers alike. Bridgerton’s visual cul- ture is no less implicated. Across its luscious sets, paintings copied from real- life artworks give depth and legitimacy to the Re- gency world created on- screen. A group portrait of the Bridgerton brothers, hung in the stairwell of Bridgerton house and to which the camera returns throughout the series, rep- licates Sir Joshua Reyn- olds’s 1760s depiction of the British politician Hen- ry Fane and his friends. They have a group of senior manag- ers leading each department. They also have a department called Market Analysis which enables them to stay connected with the market of their seg- ment, but small companies do not have such facility of de- partment segmentation. In a small company, there will prob- ably be a small team – maybe four or five employees. The pro- moter will be thoroughly in- volved in every aspect of the business – from production to sales and finance and service. The small company may not af- ford the cost of Managers and Leaders. At such a time, if the promoter or company owner does not have progressive thinking, then the company will not grow. Also, some small entrepre- neurs believe that whatever they know is true. They give great importance to their tradi- tional thinking for the compa- ny’s operation. They always try to find some other kind of fault with new things or ideas. They are too much into their own world. They often give more importance to a process driven by people and if a particular manager remains absent for a day they become conscious. They never try to invest in pro- cess Automation or system de- velopment. They believe and have over-confidence in their own skills, but whenever they face a sudden challenge in the company, they get confused and start panicking. If the Head of a company possess such a hollow view then the company has to bear a heavy loss at some or the other point in time. The Head of the company needs to change its mindset. If the company wants to be on the path of develop- ment, then the Head of the company should keep a pro- gressive approach and connect with some outside expert fol- lowing the vision of the com- pany’s business. Today let’s talk about one such progressive company’s entrepreneur, Keyur Shah, Pro- moter and CEO of Reyes Tech- serve Pvt. Ltd. This company is a renowned IT company offer- ing innovative technologies and software to the healthcare industry and most of its busi- ness comes from the USA. In order to keep the company pro- gressing for the last 17 years, Keyur has been continuously offering new ideas and innova- tive products to the customers. The company’s philosophy is to give more than what is re- quired at any corner of the world, and also within the fixed time limit. Keyur believes that if you want to keep your customers happy, then you have to keep employees happy. Mr. Keyur is an outspoken partner who has participated in the vision of the company so that employees are optimally participating in the development of the com- pany. With the help of external Experts, Keyur has been pro- moting employees to become a part of the company’s growth. Every single employee has been given a fixed goal, they are all made to feel responsible for the task they have been del- egated. The company has im- plemented the Flexible Work- ing Hours Policy. Keyur, who gave the company an MNC-like atmosphere, has adopted a five- day working culture. Reyes TechServe is now look- ing forward to becoming a lead- ing IT company making busi- ness easier, and all the credit goes to Keyur’s company em- ployees and progressive cul- ture of the company. In his words, if you want to develop continuously, and need to be a step ahead of the market and it requires expert opinion then it is advisable to take one. The conclusion of the whole discussion is if the company has to develop with a progres- sive mindset and develop skills to look at both sides of a coin, then you need to encourage progressive and expert person- alities to participate in your company’s vision leading to the ultimate benefit of people. They always try to find some other kind of fault with new things or ideas. They are too much into their own world. They often give more importance to a process driven by people and if a particular manager remains absent for a day they become conscious IF THE COMPANY WANTS TO BE ON THE PATH OF DEVELOPMENT, THEN THE HEAD OF THE COMPANY SHOULD KEEP A PROGRESSIVE APPROACH AND CONNECT WITH SOME OUTSIDE EXPERT FOLLOWING THE VISION OF THE COMPANY’S BUSINESS BHAVESH UPADHYAY BUSINESS/ HR EXPERT I LOOKING AT BOTH SIDES OF COIN IT’LL BE NANDIGRAM ONCE AGAIN fter Mamata Banerjee’s confidante Suv- endu Adhikari defected to the BJP, the move was nothing short of a political quake in West Bengal. Adhikari’s depar- ture from Trinamool Congress was sig- nificant because of the influence he commands in not one or two but 65 Assembly constituencies across six districts. He was the face of the Nandi- gram protests over land acquisition by the Left government in 2007 in which 14 people were killed. Mamata herself was deeply involved in the pro- tests and coined the “Maa, Maatee, Manush” slo- gan which catapulted her to power in Bengal in 2011. Now Mamata has locked horns with Adhi- kari by announcing her decision to contest from Nandigram, which is the latter’s home turf. She will also contest from the Bhawanipore seat. “I have always started my campaign for the as- sembly polls from Nandigram. It is a lucky place for me,” said the West Bengal chief minister who is a legislator from Bhawanipore in south Kolkata. The announcement is tantamount to throwing a gaunt- let which was promptly accepted by Suvendu Adhi- kari. The former transport minister responded by saying that if he can’t beat Mamata by “half lakh votes” he will “quit politics”, making it one of the most prestigious contests in the coming elections. A IN-DEPTH SIBAL REMINDS CONG OF PROMISED REJIG n December last year, Congress Presi- dent Sonia Gandhi pacified a group of 23 dissenters (G-23) by accepting in princi- ple their demand for inner-party democ- racy, which implied holding elections for the Congress Working Committee and the new chief of All-India Congress Committee. Even after five-hour long deliberations between Sonia Gandhi and G-23, the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s return as party president remained unresolved. With nearly a month gone, there is no indication that the Con- gress leadership is in any hurry to keep that prom- ise. Rahul Gandhi remains a reluctant leader even as the disenchantment in the party is growing. Internal issues plaguing the Congress once again resurfaced with senior leader Kapil Sibal question- ing the delay in effecting the much-needed changes in the party. “Since the meeting on December 19, we’re almost one month down the road. We’ve had no response on how and when this will happen. We hopethatthatresponsecomes inthenext few days,” said Sibal who could not attend that meeting as he wastravellingabroad.Alsoabsentfromthemeeting were Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Rajiv Sa- tav, and some other loyalists of Rahul Gandhi. The revival of Congress is imperative for its sur- vival. It has already faced electoral reversals in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala. Its prospects don’t look good in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam. With internal strife persisting and no clar- ity on party president, sentiment against the Gan- dhis is growing. Yet, they seem to think that pana- cea lies in procrastination and not in taking the problems head-on. I Promoted by First India News International Pvt. Ltd.

Inaction by police in the case lodged against Dilip Bafla by Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has raised questions against the LDA as well as the police. The police as per information received is not getting the support of LDA for initiating action against Bafla. The LDA had lodged a case against Bafla alleging that he had come to the office for misappropriation of files. Moreover, the Mahasamiti had also accused Bafla of large scale misappropriation of land. But in this case also, the silence of LDA has raised many a question as to why no action has been initiated against Bafla so far or why the police have not been able to arrest him despite the fact that he was going around freely and available for investigation. Bafla is also alleged to be making phone calls through WhatsApp so that his conversation could not be recorded. However, now is such a situation the Mahasamiti will have to come forward in the public interest and not wait for LDA to break its silence on the issue. Moreover, the LDA may give up its land but how could the Mahasamiti allow corruption in the public interest. The big question is whether Bafla is showing the mirror to vice-chairman Abhishek Prakash or is Bafla proving to be a heavyweight in the case. -Ahtesham Siddiqui Mayawati Yogi govt scrambles to SC after petitions against ‘love jihad’ law flood HCFirst India Bureau Lucknow: With a lot of casesbeingfiledagainst the Yogi governments’ Uttar Pradesh Prohibi- tion of Unlawful Con- version of Religion Or- dinance of 2020, loosely referred as the ‘love ji- had’ law, in the Alla- habad High court, the UP government has moved Supreme Court for relief. The Yogi Adi- tynath government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court for a stay of all proceedings of cases filed in Alla- habad High Court re- garding the ordinance and the government has also asked the cases to be transferred to Su- preme Court from the Allahabad High Court. The hearing on the petitions against ‘love jihad’ ordinance will be heard on 25th January, the order was given by the bench of Chief Jus- tice Govind Mathur and Justice SS Shamsheri. The bench was also in- formed of the petition regarding the transfer of cases filed in the Su- premeCourt.Thebench observed that while a notice has been issued by the Supreme Court, no interim order has been passed thus hear- ing is not barred. In the petition, the anti-conversion law has been challenged as one which is against the constitution’s funda- mental rights of a per- son to live and also free- dom of choice. The call for repealing the ordi- nance has been made because such an ordi- nance can be misused. The state government defended the law saying that the law has been brought to protect civil rights and not to violate anyone’s fundamental right. The ordinance is to prevent conversion through deceit. The Di- vision Bench of high court rejecting the gov- ernment’s plea to ad- journ the hearing until the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court and has decided 25th Janu- ary as the final hearing date. The state govern- ment was represented by Advocate General Raghvendra Pratap Sin- gh. He told the court that a petition in the Supreme Court is also being heard in addition to transferring of all the cases from the state to the Supreme Court so that all the cases can be heard simultaneously. The high court ob- served that while the Supreme Court has not passed any interim or- der, the hearing for the case in High Court can- not be adjourned. The state government had earlier filed its reply in the court on January 5th which was 102 pages long and declared that the ordinance was nec- essary. Four separate appli- cations were filed in the Allahabad High Court against the anti-conver- sion ordinance and all the petitions had one commonconcernwhich was that the ordinance was non-essential and is for only political gains. Ahtesham Siddiqui II n what could be de- moralising for the moraleof IPSoffic- ers in Uttar Pradesh, the unexpected, out of turn transfers, alleg- edly on the whims and fancies of a handful influential is not only defying the Apex Court guidelines for a minimum two-year stayperiodinadistrict but also allegedly out toaffectsmoothandef- ficient policing in the state. For example, Anurag Arya, who took charge of Pratap- garh in August last year was transferred from within a span of just six months due to health reasons while Arvind Chaturvedi, who took charge of Barabanki in January last year, was also sent toSultanpurbeforethe completion of one year, despite his work- ing having been appre- ciated by many. According to for- mer Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Singh, known for working on police reform over the years, the pace and pattern in which po- lice district chiefs are changed in UP are pa- thetically different from the transfer pat- tern of district magis- trates. As per Singh, the recent case of Hathras was a glaring example in this con- text. He further men- tioned that the trans- fer of police officers was mostly carried out due to political reasons. Police offic- ers doing good work should be given a chance to work for at least two years as the Apex Court order also mentions so, he added. Ex-DGP Vikram Singh also feels that most transfers are in self-interest and not in the public interest. Po- litical interference is the biggest reason for transfers. It takes six months for a police officer to understand a district and at least one year to improve its condition. therefore, any good of- ficer should be given a two-year posting in a district. KHAKIKHAKIHELD AT RANSOM! KHAKIHELD AT RANSOM! IPS transfers allegedly on the whims and fancies of a handful influential continues to be the norm while denting the morale of country’s biggest police force GLARING EXAMPLES PRESENT A CLEAR PICTURE OF IPS TRANSFERS IN STATE 1: Shiva Hari Meena is the 14th IPS officer in Pratapgarh, a politically charged district. Most of the district chiefs so far have been able to stay for six months or less which raises the question that whether IPS officers do not like this district or vice versa. Interestingly the unexpected rapid transfer of police chiefs in the district has failed to improve the law and order scene. 2: In Sultanpur, IPS officer Arvind Chaturvedi is the fifth officer to be posted as Superintendent of Police within a span of two-and-a-half years. The district considered as important in political terms has a pathetic law and order scene as rising crime has always posed as a challenge. In this district also, the inability of an IPS officer to stay for long is a puzzle. 3: Prabhakar Chaudhary, another IPS officer with a clean image, has also faced several transfers within three years. Currently serving as Superintendent of Police, Moradabad, Chaudhary had few months stay as police chief in different districts including Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Bulandshahr, Sitapur and Ballia and Kanpur (Dehat). In the name of public interest, the government continued transferring Chaudhary to different districts at short intervals. On the contrary in the same state with the same government setup, many tainted officers continue to receive important postings sans any special achievement. 4: Further IPS Atul Sharma of 2009 batch was made police chief of several major districts including Prayagraj. However, with major crime incidents during his tenure, he was suspended and removed on charges of corruption. 5: Finger was raised on the posting of promotee IPS officer RP Pandey, who was said to be close to former cabinet minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. Sanjeev Tyagi, another 2010 batch IPS officer, who was in controversy due to misbehavior with women officers during the tenure of the SP government, was made police chief of Auraiya and then Bijnor. Recently he was being transferred to Pratapgarh but later cancelled. Similar postings of controversial officers Ajaypal Sharma and Himanshu Kumar were carried out. 6: Another glaring example is that of Abhishek Dixit, a 2006 batch IPS of Tamil Nadu cadre who despite lacking experience in leading major districts besides having serious corruption charges against him leveled was posted as chief of a district like Prayagraj. He was later suspended.

She had applied for a change in cadre to UP on grounds of mar- riage as her husband and batchmate Ishan Pratap Singh is an IAS officer in UP. The De- partment of Personnel and Training approved her request and Riya has packed her bags and all set to join her hubby soon. She, however, is lucky to have got the clear- ance soon. For, there are around a dozen such requests for cadre change on similar grounds are pending with the DoPT, sources revealed. The BJP through the MLC elections has put out a strong message looking to maintain its caste combination. It has given tickets to dal- its, backward classes, Vaishya, Thakur, Bhu- mihar and Brahmin. But the party could not adjust one for its core vote bank-the Kayasth community. This folly, many be- lieve, has given the Sa- majwadi Party a weap- on to bill the BJP as an- ti-Kayastha. It was expected of the BJP to give ticket to a Kayasth candidate fol- lowing the victory of SP’s Ashutosh Sinha in the election for legisla- tive council from Vara- nasi. The SP has accused the BJP of using the Kayasth community when it needs and at- tempting to marginalise it politically. Ashutosh Sinha said the BJP has merely used the community but never gave its due. The Kayasth leaders and workers were not given a place in state body nor has anyone been sent to Rajya Sab- ha or legislative coun- cil. This, despite the fact that the communi- ty has always sided with the BJP and voted en masse. The SP has shown its unwavering commitment towards the community. The BJP hasn’t field- ed any Kayasth leader for Lok Sabha elec- tions, mayoral or MLC elections. HC disposes of talaq plea of Muslim man, wife First India Bureau Lucknow: Noting the fact that a man and his wife have accepted the talaq, the Allahabad High Court observed that now talaq would be termed to be a khula tala. The division bench of Justice Dr Kaushal Jayendra Thaker and Justice Gautam Chowd- hary passed this order while hearing a petition filed by Mohammmad Gufran @ Gufran. At this stage it is stat- ed by both that they want to bury their dif- ferences and as this is a petition under Article 226 of Constitution of India and as the parties belong to Muslim reli- gion and as now they have accepted the talaq, which would now be turned as khula talaq as per the Muslim Person- al Law (Shariat) Appli- cation Act, 1937 and as per the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986. LUCKNOW, TUESDAY JANUARY 19, 2021 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 09 ne of India’s most proficient and im- portant designers in the fashion pan- theon, Rajesh Pratap Singh is originally from Jaipur and now runs his fashion empire from New Delhi. His minimalist view- point and his super-luxuri- ous execution ensure his position in the industry and he is often celebrated by his peers. His seasonal offerings in- clude the most beautiful winter basics and outer- wear. Known as one of the most intellectual of design- ers, his work is widely ap- preciated for the complex development of his fabrics. Not for him the conveni- ence of ordering woollen fabrics from China and Ita- ly, for he maintains that In- dian wool counts amongst the finest in the world and all it needs is the correct production guidelines to make a difference and up- grade Indian wool to global standards. To achieve this, he set up his own looms in Neemrana just outside New Delhi and hired the very best of weav- ers to produce his fabrics under his masterful super- vision. At Rajasthan Herit- age Week, he showed his mastery over the medium with a series of exquisitely made woollen ensembles for men women. Here, he worked with the Khadi wool of Rajasthan right from its original source, choosing the best quality of raw material that was processed accord- ing to his exacting stand- ards. This raw wool was hand-spun into fine yarn and woven by the Master Weavers of the State, like Sitaram Ji of Barmer who painstakingly wove the fab- ric into the yardage that would form the foundation of his collection. Once the fabric was ready, he shipped it back to New Delhi for the finishing and dyeing process. Some of the finished product also returns to Rajasthan for hand block printing by the master artisans, and then again back to New Delhi to be made into his interna- tionally celebrated gar- ments. This is what sets Rajesh Pratap Singh apart from the quotidian. His fabrics are virtually impossible to replicate, creating an ex- clusivity that appeals to the purists of fashion, for they know that to wear his col- lection is literally a badge of sartorial honour. While many designers are content to buy fabric from the usu- al Chinese/Turkish/Italian import houses, Rajesh will never compromise his exacting standards, developing his fabrics from the ground up sea- son after season. This winter, he used wool in an extremely re- stricted colour palette of white and off-white com- bined with grey and black anthracite to send out a col- lection at once strong and sophisticated. His fabrics were woven into chequered, striped or jacquard designs, sometimes inspired by sim- ple tribal blankets and sometimes by traditional European classics. His block printed woollen fab- rics created a sensation, for the furry surface texture of wool does not lend itself easily to block printing, and especially with vegeta- ble dyes. This was perfectly executed by the artisans. Embellished with subtle detailing like Kantha em- broidery and resist dyeing processes to create a batik effect, his International sil- houettes were dramatic and his tailoring impecca- ble. From blazers to great- coats, and from three-piece suits to separates, each piece reflected his personal philosophy. Gender fluidity played a big role in his im- aginative offerings, blur- ring lines as his men wore skirts and the women wore sharply tailored ensembles inspired by menswear. There is no one quite like Rajesh Pratap Singh in the Indian Design firmament, and for me, he is truly the most important and cere- bral designer in a market space flooded with spurious western knock offs and cop- ies. With a loyal band of customers the world over acquiring his collections, ensuring that their ward- robe features timeless piec- es that can be worn for a lifetime of style. With serious investment and funding, the Rajesh Pratap Singh label is per- fectly poised to become an international brand.   THE RAJESH PRATAP SINGH WINTER COLLECTION FEATURES THE FINEST WOOL HE DEVELOPED WITH THE WEAVERS OF SANGANER AND BARMER! YOUR DAYHoroscope by Saurabbh Sachdeva here are people who call it “green blood” and credit innumerable ben- efits to it. As per claims, wheat- grass juice can have dramatic effects in the management of diabe- tes, hypertension, heart diseases, infertility, low li- bido, obesity, thalassemia, hemolytic anemia, skin sores, aging, diseases of teeth, eyes, muscles and joints. Claims are made about the significant role in the management of asthma, allergies, inflam- matory bowel diseases, cancers, arthritis and loss of mental functions! They base their claims on hemoglobin like struc- ture in wheatgrass where magnesium replaces iron and claim that almost eve- ry mineral and antioxi- dant is present in this so- called “wonder” herb. Doesn’t this all sound utopian? There is an old saying that too many friends mean no friend. How can a single herb con- tain so many ingredients and can have so many ef- fects that it can treat al- most every sickness under sun! Have you ever looked closely at a wheatgrass leaf ? It looks like a stroke of green by a painter with no veins and scaffolding like other green leaves of plants and trees. It is in these veins and scaffold- ing that the minerals and other substances are stored. You will see no such veins and scaffolding in wheatgrass leaf. This means the leaf mainly contains chlorophyll pig- ment which is responsible for photosynthesis in which carbon is extracted from soil and oxygen and hydrogen are taken from the water, then with the help of sun rays, it synthe- sizes carbohydrates which are food for the plant and are essential for the sur- vival of the plant. The theory that it is a good source of magnesi- um stands on the loose ground because magnesi- um deficiency in human beings is rare as all the grains, seeds, leafy green vegetables and all vegetar- ian and non-vegetarian fiber contain plenty of magnesium. Wheatgrass is neither a unique nor a dominant source of this mineral whose require- ment to the human body is also minimal. The leaf is mainly com- posed of chlorophyll and some traces of minerals and this story of green blood holds no ground as magnesium can not carry oxygen which iron in hemoglobin does and the theory of similarity of structure with dissimilar constituents appears il- logical. Secondly, human intestines can neither breakdown chlorophyll nor absorb it so, by simple logic, chlorophyll is of no use to the human body. Some people claim that wheatgrass juice removes cancer cells from mouth cancers and intestinal tu- mours but no widespread studies have been conduct- ed and any beneficial claim at this juncture should be considered as an over-en- thusiasm. Studies conducted to date on the usefulness of wheatgrass “wonders” are mainly restricted to test tubes, no clinically signifi- cant research has been conducted on a large hu- man population. But the enterprising businessmen have found an opportunity to make some quick money as dreams are always easy to sell to gullible people who are always in search of shortcuts to great health. Lastly, your logical que- ry is what you should do? Well, if you are a fan of “green blood”, stay so be- cause fans are usually overwhelmed by emo- tions, not logic. They, most of the time, follow some unproved line of thoughts, usually non-factual but the longevity of belief in miracles is unending. Let wheatgrass juice be the “green nectar” of your morning drink and nur- ture the euphoria of health, vitality, virility and longevity. Forget the fact that you don’t need and can’t perform photo- synthesis, drink a glass of green as it is palatable and as such, causes no harm. Furthermore, being drawn from a plant source, it might do some, yet un- known, good as well. But if you expect a mira- cle, then there might be many disappointments but once again, habits die hard, a myth has its own survival strength so, drink if you feel good but do not forget your cucumber, to- mato, potato and spinach, plus remember cabbage, cauliflower, cluster beans and coriander.
