WELCOME…
TO YEAR 11 GENERAL MEDIA
Lesson Objective
To build student
understanding of what
to expect in our class
this year.
WHO IS THIS GUY?
A little about me:
- Mr Dixon
- 3rd Year at MSC (9th year of
teaching)
- Love Travel, Sport and Movies
- Teach Media, Photography,
Drama
- Play Golf & Baseball and love
to Run (when I’m not injured)
CAN YOU GUESS?
From the give photos, see if you
can guess where I went for the
summer holidays.
CAN YOU GUESS?
From the give photos, see if you
can guess where I went for the
summer holidays.
A LITTLE ABOUT
YOU
With the person next to you have a
short discussion. 2 minutes each to
discuss one of these 3 things:
- What was the best place you
visited on the Holidays?
- What subject, or course are you
most looking forward to this year?
- What movie/TV show did you
watch over the break, and did you
enjoy it?
OUR CLASSROOM
Within my classes, how we must speak and
act is centred around 3 key points:
Safety - Respect – Learning
Essentially, if it doesn’t fall under all of these
categories, it does not belong in the
classroom.
Which leads us to activity one.
ACTIVITY ONE (5 MINUTES)
1) You will each be given a post-it note and
one of the 3 focus areas.
2) You will write an answer on your post-it
note and place it up on the white board in
the section it fits.
On the post in you must give and example
of what Safety or Respect or Learning in
classroom looks, feels or sounds like.
Example.
OUR COURSE
Assessment Outline
Found on Moodle in the
Course HQ section
Key Points:
- 70/30 Production
Response split
- 4 productions/ 4
responses
- Groupwork will be
expected.
OUR EQUIPMENT (FILMING GEAR)
Cameras & Filming Gear
Within Media at MSC you will be using a variety
of filming equipment:
- Canon 700/750d Cameras
- Tripods
- Attachable & external Microphones/Sound
recording equipment.
- Portable lights/Studio lights
- Adobe PremierPro (editing software)
Fist to Five:
Think about your own
media experience. Do
you have experience in
any or all of these
things?
E.g. have you used Canon cameras
before?
Over the next lesson or
two we will be running
activities/workshops on
how to appropriately
setup and use our
filming equipment.
OUR EQUIPMENT
Considerations in the G110 classroom
Logins (desktop)
- first.last & password
Moodle
- first.last & password
Adobe
- @mindarie.wa.edu.au
- first.last & password
Sometimes we need patience with our technology.
Sometime we need to attempt our logins a couple of times.
Check your spelling/grammar carefully.
OUR EQUIPMENT (DATA STORAGE)
File Management
Desktop vs Documents vs Network drives
Practice!
1) Create a Media_2023 folder on the ‘Media
Storage’ on the Network Drive.
2) Open PremierPro and save a project named
‘Storage Test’ to your desktop
3) Drag that project folder into the Media_2023
folder in the network drive.
