Fr. Juan de Plasencia, O.P.
in the Spanish and Tagalog
versions.

Spanish version: One to the
Vatican, one to Madrid Museum;
two copies were found in the
Library of Congress, Washington
D.C.
Chinese version was done by
Fr. Juan de Cobo, O.P., a

A novelized version of the
biblical story written by Fr.
Antonio, S. J. in 1708.
Considered to be the first
Tagalog novel.
Fr. Agustin Mejia wrote the
Ilocano version of this book
in poetic form.

Gaspar Aquino de Belen started
to write pasion in 1704
Don Luis Guian followed
this in 1750
Fr. Mariano Pilapil wrote
another Tagalog version in
1814
Fr. Aniceto de la Merced
wrote his own version in
1852.

Introduced by Fr. Mariano Sevilla
in 1865 undertaking the first
steps in the daily deotional
service in the church during the
month of May in observing
Flores de Mayo.

Castro.
Fr. de Castro was dubbed to be
the “Prince of Tagalog Prose” and
“Father of Tagalog Classical
Prose”.
Projecting the code of conduct in
church, at home, in school, toward
one’s fellowmen, mentors, parents,
and God which has a cleansing effect
on moral principles.
