Firewire cables, also known as IEEE 1394 cables, are used to transfer information between devices like computers, cameras, and audio/video equipment. They use 6-pin connectors to also carry power. Firewire cables have the same connectors on both ends and allow for high speed data transfer, up to 800 Mbps for Firewire 800. USB cables are also very common, with most computers having USB ports. USB connections allow for attachment of devices like audio interfaces, controllers, and external hard drives directly to computers. USB 1.0 supports 12 Mbps transfer while USB 2.0 supports faster speeds up to 480 Mbps.
